Think carefully before buying: Keymission 360 cannot take good photos. Keymission 360 also cannot be placed in the same category as other 360-cameras on the market because Nikon has corrupted the JPEG output. The special equirectangular JPEG output format here distorts the images and is not recoverable. The raw photo data from the rear camera is first distorted into a square shape, then split in half(!!) and stitched (clumsily!) to the sides of the front and cropped too. I expected to make good images in any format I choose, not just for people who want to tape their cell-phone to their heads with cardboard! I want an apology & money back.

The charger is a Nikon MH-65. A company called Watson also makes some nice 3rd party charges for this battery.There are also some very nice 3rd party mounts for these types of cameras. I bought a few. They seem sturdy, work well, and are almost half the price of a Nikon mounting accessory.

First, I really like this camera. I have a 360 Heros setup and a Ricoh Theta S. The first is a pain to use and stitch and the other is fun, but lacks in image quality. The Nikon Keymission 360 comes right in the middle of the two in image quality. It is a solid little camera that looks good online in 4k VR. It's sharp, but you do have some fringing and it doesn't hold shadows and highlights as well as a GoPro setup. It's really easy to use - except the app! Overall I am happy with the camera. 360 video and images are clear and camera design seems rugged and solid. I mainly purchased this camera over competitors due to it being waterproof and full 360 with 2 cameras which i like better than the single camera style used on the 360fly and others.I installed firmware #1.2 right away and have had no issues with the connection between my LGV20 and the camera.I was dissapointed with the underwater lenses reducing the field of view and leaving a black ring in the image. I dont remember seeing anything about this in the reviews. I hope they will release some less obstructive lenses or possibly just automatically crop out the black ring thru a future firmware update.The only issue I am having is with video recording ... I was also able to immediately upload photos to FB that came through in all of their 360 degree glory. The best way to view, however, is with a VR headset. We loaded the pictures and video up with my son's HTC Vive and the result is spectacular - well at least for the photos. Now for the bad. The video quality from this thing is absolutely terrible no matter what setting you are shooting at. Even the 4k video is extremely noisy and pixelated. I contacted Nikon - and their support is useless.

MoreTo start with I was setting my camera to record but it was shutting down after 4-5 minutes, I asked what could cause this on Nikons website after not finding the problem under FAQ, but the reply was I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you are having with your Keymission 360“Could you please tell me are the batteries fully charged? As expected image stitching is obvious for objects close to the camera sides, also light differences front to back so careful placement needs to be considered. Audio quality is good-excellent if compared to the Gopro Hero 6.But in my opinion the static 360 photographs are worth investing in this camera just for that look around wish I was there again feeling, They are a great deal sharper than the video.The footage can be fun to play around with on the computer making tiny planets etc.The two-stage connection, Bluetooth then to the KeyMission’s Wi-Fi network does take a while which can get frustrating when you are eager to line up a shot, aeroplane mode is available if you don’t want to check position then just press the top button to start/stop video or the side button to take a photo-also there is a self timer 2 or 10 seconds to avoid getting your hand in the shot.The wide-angle lenses sit behind protective plastic lens covers, which as this is meant to be an action camera you know are going to need replacing at some point thus I was dumbfounded to find out these bits of plastic are VERY expensive and sold singly.Button configuration and no lock means it’s easy to accidentally trigger the camera whilst hurrying to pack away and if not noticed you later go to use the camera to find you have a flat battery.A reasonable first 360 camera but I look forward to software updates/improvements and Nikon’s future 360 releases which I’m sure will iron out the creases.
Poor out of box experience. Original Pre-Order was canceled by Best Buy without notice. Charged for Accessory pack which was supposed to be free with pre-order. Camera setup with WiFi needs a lot of work, understandable with version 1.0 of app. Took to Cozumel Scuba diving 10/28 - 11/7. Waterproof case did work and camera has only two buttons so easy to work underwater, that was only plus. The video 2.7K is not High quality (see attached Image) and is only 24fps. I was disappointed in the optics and the Black Lens line you get on 360 Underwater videography. The noticeable lens distortion along with the black edge is unforgivable in a 360 product. The Nikon Application for both the Apple and Android need significant improvements. Like upload to Facebook, YouTube, ... MorePoor out of box experience. This is not even a consumer worthy product it should be kept in a Beta with better people providing feedback. I was so disappointed with this product that I had to return it to the store. This product is not ready to be release and should be put on production hold so Nikon can hopefully keep their reputation of a leader in photography. Sorry, but I felt I had to post to help others from making a mistake in purchasing this KeyMission 360 camera.
Completely disappointed. This is the worst piece of junk I've ever seen from Nikon. Actually a horrible product that I wouldn't wish on a consumer or professional. Hardware fit and finish is excellent, but that's where my nice-things-to- say section comes to an end. Image quality is mediocre to poor, due to mediocre in-camera stitching and lack of exposure and white balance controls. Resolution is good, but doesn't make up for consistently bad exposures, severe lens flare, and blurry images. Battery life is awful - under an hour - even on standby. No clear feedback on whether the camera is on, shooting video, shooting stills, or what resolution is being captured. No bracketing. No HDR capabilities. No RAW format. Android software particularly awful. Doesn't connect reliably to camera or maintain connection, provides minimal actual control, takes forever to preview or download images. Remote control function almost never works, particularly when you've set the app to sync images from the camera, which is the only way to see them, short of removing the memory card and loading into a computer manually (which is actually much more practical than trying to load them over wifi.) Camera's performance is terrible in low light. No external battery charger - have to charge in camera, which takes several hours, so good luck charging multiple batteries overnight. Can't connect camera to computer to download images or remote-control camera. Also, the camera is substantially bigger and heavier than a GoPro 4 + housing. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I'm about to return this camera and the accessories I bought with it.

The way i got mine to pair easy was to get the camera and phone AWAY from any other bluetooth devices around that might confuse the camera during pairing process, and i started form scratch again; erased bluetooth profile on my phone that the camera installed when i tried the previous times ( "forget this device") , restarted the app, turned camera off and on and then it paired right away. This is obviously a software update thing that will get sorted, nothing more. the app is slow to communicate but it all works. they'll have to sort out the download times to the iPhone/device, use some better compression or something. Also, it needs to download to the phone letting it know its a "pano" so that it goes into that folder and things like facebook recognize it as such so that you can upload it to FB as a 360 vid. Just like all the panos form the iPhone FB recognizes them and makes the 360 when you upload.hardware: heres where you can forget about the software issues knowing they'll get sorted with updates. the hardware is the better 360 image I've seen yet. Ive looked at 360fly, ricoh and sensing. The only one that compares os the samsung but you need a samsung phone, so thats that. and even then the nikon is better color, better flare handling and better exposure control IMO.there also seem to be some confused buyers here. this IS NOT AN ACTION CAMERA LIKE A GOPRO. this is a 360 camera... that can be used for action, but its not in the same category as the much smaller types like go pros that dont do 360. These are dedicated 360 cameras that require much bigger hardware in order to accomplish 360 recording. The only one thats smaller is the Ricoh and thats because they use much smaller lenses and sensors, and it suffers for it and even that one is still much larger than any juts-action-camera out there. basically, they CANT be as small as a juts-action-camera, period. so if you thought you were buying a gopro, you didn't do much homework on what a 360 camera is and does.
