Why buy an Acer chromebook? There are probably write a few reasons. But I will tell you mine. It's just like Android vs. Apple. You like one-for whatever reason-more than the other. Me, I like Google apps better than Microsoft apps. Yes, I believe you can download Google apps on Windows 10. But not nearly as easy as on a Chromebook. All I have to do is go to Google Playstore. And on that note, I read a review somewhere that said Google apps don't work well on a Chromebook. What??! They work fine on my Chromebook-and will work fine on yours as well. Also, please understand there are quite a few people-like me-that do NOT need all the advanced programs, or sophisticated functions of a high- end laptop with Windows 10 or IOS. Some of "us" noephytes only want to watch movies, YouTube videos, and surf the web. Basically want a really big phone, not a device to do rocket science. And if that is your desire-as it was with me-you can't go wrong with a Acer 15 Chromebook. Really any chromebook, because the Chrome OS is receiving such popularity all the laptop companies are now making Chromebooks. But I am more than satisfied with my Acer 15 Chromebook, and depending on what you are purchasing it for-all electronic device purchases are subjective-you should be as well.

Bought this on sale at the Source for $60 less than I could find it anywhere else online. Has Chrome store as well as Playstore, so lots of apps to choose from. Performance is faily snappy as long as you don't have too many things open at once. Display does not have the contrast I would prefer on black and white text. Light colours are somewhat washed out, but otherwise the display is crisp, has a wide viewing angle and the graphics are pretty good for videos. The speakers are clear and have good volume but lack depth at the low end frequencies.Don't expect to play the lastest high end games on this machine, but that's not what you bought it for anyway ;-). Keyboard has a good feel and the touchpad works well. Easily Wi-Fi connected to the Canon TS5020 All-In-One ... MoreBought this on sale at the Source for $60 less than I could find it anywhere else online. Easily Wi-Fi connected to the Canon TS5020 All-In-One wireless inkjet printer (also on sale with chromebook purchase) without installing the Canon App as the app only works on devices with ARM processors. All printing functions work and you can make copies, but you are not able to scan documents. So, if your usage requirements are light and you don't have to have the best display and speakers, then this Chromebook is a great value.

I was in a tight spot when my laptop broke and needed a semi-functional laptop-like device until I could afford a decent laptop.I'm baffled by all the positive reviews of this device, which prompts me to wonder if I somehow received a "dud".From day one, this device has barely functioned. It's so slow, it takes several minutes to load most websites (no exaggeration), including very basic sites.Having several tabs open at once slows the device down even more.My 18-year-old desktop computer, which is equipped with Windows Seven and has been used regularly over the years, is exponentially faster than this Chromebook.I don't use devices to do anything fancy - mostly just word processing, basic research, and sometimes social media. It's not like I'm loading a bunch of heavy-duty websites and expecting them all to work at the speed of light.Another major issue I have with this Chromebook is its tendency to freeze up and need to be restarted. The other night, it happened four times within an hour, and I only had two tabs open on my browser. One of them was Google Docs and another was a history website that works just fine on every other device I've used, including tablets, phones, laptops - you name it.I wish I had more positive things to say about this device, but it's one of the most, if not THE most, disappointing purchase of an electronic I've ever made. My last laptop, the one that broke unexpectedly (for reasons having nothing to do with the actual device), was an eight-year-old refurbished, technically outdated, giant piece of metal that also worked much better than this Chromebook.Again, I don't use computers for much, and this doesn't even come close to meeting my needs. I took it on vacation right after I bought it (hence my rushed purchase) and I was stressed out the entire time because there were some very basic but important work-related tasks I had to complete online and this device was terrifyingly slow. I even went to several different places to try out different Wi-Fi, to see if it was a Wi-Fi issue, and it wasn't. When I returned home with this Chromebook and it remained excruciatingly slow on my home network, which is very good internet that we pay a high premium for, I knew I had made a very unwise purchase.I highly recommend not buying this device unless you 1) only ever have one tab open, 2) do not mind a VERY slow-functioning speed, and 3) never, ever use even slightly content-heavy websites. You should also become accustomed to occasional random freezes.I would feel wrong giving this away, because it's practically useless, so I plan to dispose of it once I get my new laptop. I couldn't be more disappointed.

Wanting to replace a Windows laptop that was giving me a lot of grief, I decided to try this Chromebook for a low cost replacement as my portable computing needs are minimal. First of all, let me tell you how much I love Acer over other brands. The products are well designed and rugged. It will hold up. The screen is large and bright and clear. You can't do better than that. The sound through the two large top mounted speakers are also nice. For most needs, you don't need an external unless you are listening to music. I watch CNN every morning on this unit and the sound is more than adequate. Keybaord is nice and "tactile", the track pad works great although I'm not a track pad user. I plug in an external mouse. I watch CNN every morning on this unit and the sound is more than adequate. Keybaord is nice and "tactile", the track pad works great although I'm not a track pad user. I plug in an external mouse. I'd also like to point out the battery life is unbelievable. I mean hours and hours on a single charge. Again however, I have this unit plugged in most of the time. This laptop has a nice feel to it, like it is not super light and feels cheap. It's just nice. Now a couple of the downsides....it's a Chromebook. I never knew how limiting you are as far as productivity on a Chromebook. It literally is running the same operating system (android 9) as my phone which means it cannot do anything more than my phone. So even word processing can be a problem if you are not online using Word online. Text processing apps are very limited as to what they can do. So is photo editing, you are not going to run anything like Photoshop on this unit although there are some pretty good photo apps. So keep in mind the limitations of a Chromebook. But for what I need for portable computing, this works fine. I have a full powered iMac at home. Another downside is this unit is not fast at all. It boots up fast, but beyond that it is kind of slow. And for the price, you are not going to get blazing speed, so do keep that in mind. If you need speed, this is not the computer for you. You will have to spend more. I also wish it had just a tad more interal storage. You are not going to store lots of photos on this machine. You will have to use an SD card or external USB. It would be nice if internal storage was upgradeable. I do not use the camera, but it has one that is more than adequate. All in all, for the bucks, it's not a bad machine. The thing I like most is it is an Acer. I've had a lot of problems with other brands. So far this Acer is flawless. I highly recommend.
I have had this Chromebook for four years now and I still love it. The negative reviews are people who simply do not understand what a Chromebook is and expect it to function like a PC. It is not a PC; it does not allow you to use PC programs or play DVD's. That being said it is excellent at what it is actually made to do, which is to use the internet. Anything that can be done online can be done on this Chromebook. There is an app store that has apps to make things easier too. There is a minimal amount of storage, but it takes SD cards and it has USB ports for flash drives. However, it is connected to your Google account just like an android phone so anything you need to save you can save to your Google Drive. It comes with extra storage for two years but after that it goes back down to the storage that free accounts have. At that point you can plug in an external hard drive or something else like that and save your extra files if you need more room. I have not had an issue with this, the storage that comes free with a Google account has been enough for my needs. My favorite feature is definitely the updates. It literally takes two minutes to update the Chromebook which is a Godsend after years of waiting hours for Windows to update. It connects easily to smart TV’s to cast shows so you can watch them on the bigger screen and you can still surf the internet while it is casting without any slow-down. I have not had any issues with it freezing or buffering and it has good picture quality. It does not have great sound, but headphones fix that problem easily and I don’t listen to music that much anyway so it doesn’t bother me. Music can be casted to a smart TV though, so that is another option. I have not noticed any slow-down as it got older either, which is amazing! This computer is four years old and it runs as fast as it did when I first got it. I have dropped it (from my bed), had my cat sit on it, had my dog run over the keyboard, and spilled food on it and it still runs like a champ. The battery life is so much better than any of the laptops I’ve ever had. Fully charged I can use it all day, literally all day since I work on the computer a lot so it’s a good 9 hours or more of use before I need to charge it again depending on what I am doing.Overall I would highly recommend it to anyone that just wants a machine to access the internet and stream music or videos. I use Google Docs for my writing needs, but you can use your Microsoft Office Online account if you must use Microsoft products. It is also compatible with Web Skype and other instant message programs now, which is great because that was a feature that was lacking four years ago when I bought it. I like it and recommend it, but you need to understand what a Chromebook is before you buy it and do some research to see if it meets your needs. Most of the bad reviews are unwarranted and are user error, not the machine.
I've been wanting a Chromebook for writing screenplays and watching movies on the go for some time now and, after reading all the good reviews, decided on this Acer Chromebook. For the price, one cannot beat this computer. I love that it's as large as a regular laptop. The screen is large and crisp, providing excellent viewing. The keyboard is centered perfectly, unlike some laptops with their weird, uncomfortably off-center keyboard. The track pad is responsive and not over-sensitive, though it is a bit off-center in its mounting, with a large gap around it that seems like it might collect dust and crumbs. Looking at photos, I noticed they are all like that and, as I've not been able to find anything online where other people had a problem with it, I assume it will ... MoreI've been wanting a Chromebook for writing screenplays and watching movies on the go for some time now and, after reading all the good reviews, decided on this Acer Chromebook. I streamed Lost in Space on Netflix within hours of buying it, and never had any buffering. I'm sure if it had 4gb ram instead of 2, it would be able to handle whatever you can throw at it, but as it is, I can have multiple documents and browser tabs open in the background while streaming a movie and still have no problems. I did have an issue when, while downloading a Netflix episode for offline play, the WiFi turned off, and wouldn't turn on again until I rebooted. It just toggled back to off every time I turned it on. A reboot did the trick, but it has me wondering if there will be problems with the wireless card in the future. A Chromebook without WiFi isn't much better than a paperweight! Not worried about storage; I could keep hundreds of novels on it, and again, it's mainly for writing. Even if I needed more space, it has a card reader and USB port, and external storage is pretty cheap. The speakers are pretty good, though I use it with Bluetooth headphones. The seller, though, is the battery life. It says a full charge lasts twelve hours. Well, I got this yesterday at about 11am. It was already about 90% charged. As one should always do to set the battery "memory," I charged it completely, then set about trying to use it until it completely drained and turned itself off. I wrote, watched Netflix, surfed memes, all afternoon until about 7pm, then closed the lid and let it sleep while I had dinner. Another episode of Lost in Space before bed, then sleep mode until 7am. I had only drained it about halfway. I have been using it all day today, streaming movies and writing, and it finally died about 2pm. Charged for about two hours to 100% and now it's off to the races. It'll probably not sure again until tomorrow evening. I love not having to constantly charge a laptop! So, if you just need an affordable laptop for work, study, or entertainment, go ahead and get this Acer. You will not be disappointed.
I bought this Chromebook 2 weeks ago. It was my first time using a Chromebook. It took very little time to get used to switching from a Windows laptop to a Chromebook. I use it mostly for email, surfing, documents and spreadsheets. Boots up very fast everytime, in about 7 seconds. It has 1 HDMI, 2 USB, an SD card reader, a webcam and a mic/headphone input. Everything you need. It also appears to be solidly contructed. I've been disappointed however with the Chromebook's slow execution when working with files. I expected a 4gb machine would be faster for these operations. My 10 year old Windows 7 laptop is still faster. It doesn't have an illuminated keyboard but that's ok. I do enjoy working from and saving files onto removable drives such as a media card or USB. ... MoreI bought this Chromebook 2 weeks ago. It was my first time using a Chromebook. If you need something with more RAM, you're better of sticking with a Windows laptop. Otherwise, this is a good entry level Chromebook worth purchasing without having to break the bank.
It arrived in 2 business days I ordered it on Saturday and it got to my front stoop by Tuesday just after noon . It came packed in a box 3 times the size of the original Acer Packaging in good shape . I openned the Pluto Free TV favorites that was saved to my Chrome Browser clicked on Church of Rock let a couple of classic rock tunes blare figured out how to set the sound to my liking , made sure everything was up to spec and yes it works perfectly . And here I am Posting a review , I will have to pick up a 256 GB or 128 GB SD to increase the storage capacity since it only has 16 ... MoreIt arrived in 2 business days I ordered it on Saturday and it got to my front stoop by Tuesday just after noon . And here I am Posting a review , I will have to pick up a 256 GB or 128 GB SD to increase the storage capacity since it only has 16 GB's of internal storage . But other then that it works as great as I thought it would , heck I even had an extra wireless mouse laying around so I didn't have to mess around with that thing under the keyboard ,For $149.00 and tax with 2 day shipping from Walmart dot com it surely does beat the old e-machine with its start up and opening the broswer , Chromebook was turned on and running the browser a good minutes before my old laptop finished booting up . And updating is quicker too , it even comes with its own security that updates automaticly . Really can't say enough about this Acer Chromebook 15 , but I think I did , LOL , Thank You Acer and Walmart .
I got this product for increased work from home duties. Google docs/spreadsheets/hangouts. Video chatting. My laptop was ancient and I needed something with updated software so I could use google chrome and website browsing capabilities. Not bulky or heavy. Not ultralight, but feels pretty light to me. It's gotten the job done, and for under $200. I would recommend this product.Pros:One of the least expensive chrome books out thereHuge screenGood battery lifeVideo chatting - the viewer on the other end gets a good picture of you and a wide viewing screenCons (not terrible, just FYI)Not the fastest browsing of all time, but totally reasonable for the price - would have liked it to be maybe 1/2 second faster. For the $200 price point I would 100% recommend this product! Would buy again.
