The wide 780mm handlebars give good control over the steering, especially in technical riding conditions and fit my shoulder width well.The front forks at this price point are not expected to be of high performance, and they are marginal at dampening and rigidity, but do help some with big hits using up all of their 100 mm travel. The stock pedals were too small for my size 12EE shoes and not very grippy, so I upgraded to OneUp flat pedals which make for much more confidence in pedal grip and comfort and fit my feet better.All in all, the Giant Talon 2/29 is a great bike for the price and could be worthy as an entry level hardtail race bike at an affordable price point or just a durable off-road bike for local park trails. It would also make for a fun city commuter bike with the low rolling resistance of the 29" tires.

SHIFTS PRETTY NICE AND IS STABLE AND FUN TO RIDE. IF YOU WANT TO DO SOME TOUGH TRACKS AND GET RIGHT INTO CROSS COUNTRY ETC YOU'LL NEED TO SPEND A FAIR BIT MORE AND PROBABLY GO FOR A DUAL SUSPENSION. I bought this bike September of last year and put about 95 miles on it within two months. I had a long break and have put an extra 45 miles on it since August and it's still holding up great. I replaced the grips and pedals almost immediately because the factory ones were not good at all for the trails I ride. My one complaint is that the head tube is straight, and most forks nowadays are tapered, adding complexity to my goal of mulleting the bike. Other than that, it's an excellent bike and I highly recommend it. Shifting is smooth, brakes bite well enough for me and I don't feel any fade on my rides.

I chose the 29er because it seems to roll a bit more smoothly than the 27.5. I chose to go with the Talon 1 because of the air fork and 1x. Entry level parts have come such a long way since I started riding in 1995. Bike is great and I would recommend it however, so far there is zero aftermarket parts support for the sxc32-2.Giant refuses to provide technical specifications for the sxc32-2 air fork such as parts lists and fork oil weights/measurements. Meaning you are required to get scalped by a giant retailer with repair costs.This is unfortunate because I would like to support giant more, but until they change their anti-repair policy stance. I cannot support this company.
I just purchased a Talon 4 about 3 days ago. It does not come with Maxxis tires like in pictures. Comes with Kenda tires.. My bike does not have two front gears. It only has one sprocket thus not having a front derailer.It does not come with Shimano power train. Comes with an 8 speed microshift advent, which is a cheaper unreliable product. Specs on this website for a talon 4 are incorrect. My bike shop said they cannot help because they used all parts supplied in the box... Update your website @Giant with new specs... bike shop wont accept this return. I should have purchased a specialized bicycle..
I like everything about the bike but it does not come with a lock out fork which means it is incredibly hard work going uphill, almost undoable with the 29er wheels. The specs online are silent about pretension or lock out on the forks but describe them a Suntour XCM 30. When you check the Suntour site for this model it shows image with lockout and says all models have lock out. I think Giant are being deceptive by omission on their specs. LBS was unable to help because that is how they get the bike supplied the giant spec is silent on lock out. look out buyers it is the same silence for all talon's1,2,3,4 on the site! you won't know if you're getting lock out or not -even on a Talon 1.
Bought the 2021 model Talon 2 to replace my 1996 GT Avalanche as my winter bike, it had big tires to fill and has done so admirably, the 1x9 system is perfect for winters snow filled rides. The Deore XT front derailleur on the GT would get covered with snow and Ice and freeze in what ever chainwheel I was in and I was done!, The 1x9 solved that. But the rear derailleur on the Talon 2 is really clunky and late shifting, I can live with it, but I don't like it. The other thing was handlebar width, the GT's were 25" wide, the Talon's were a hair under 32"! I eventually got my pipe cutter and trimmed 1.5" off each end, Works much better for me. So overall it's a real nice bike and should serve me for a long time, just do NOT like The Rear derailleur
I Had this bike since december 2020 and got me in to biking . of course it it is entry level it had slightly lower spec components . the tyres and brakes are great for the money but cheaper gearing and fork was swapped out .
