I have a Beagle who cannot have dental cleanings by the vet anymore due to her heart condition. I asked my Vet for a prescription plan dog food but found the other two companies make smaller bags that I would have to order two or three bags at the most to last a while. I decided to go with this instead. They are a lot bigger than the usual food she ate but so far she has been able to eat them. I do wish they were a little smaller but I guess the size is what helps with the oral care. My smaller terrier also likes it as well and I like the bag size.

I have 2 mid size dogs (Mini Aussies). I give them 2 each feeding time as treats. They love them and the dog food does help with their teeth's health. Neither have any trouble at all chewing them. I used to own dachshunds and they have very strong jaws. This is not a rock like food.

My 10 lb dog LOVES these. I’ve never seen him exhibit caching behavior before, but he acts like he is “burying” this food, and then he hides individual kibble pieces in other rooms of the house and finds them later that day to eat them… I have never seen him act this way over food or even treats before! He is keeping busy, that’s for sure, and clearly loves the taste. As far as whether the food helps his plaque/tartar, I’m not sure yet since he just started the food recently. But I’m very happy that he enjoys the food so much. I wasn’t even sure if he would be able to eat it since it is big kibble, but he has no problem at all.

My ageing dog tends to get a build up of plaque on his teeth. This food is crunchy and helps remove the build up. The additional benefits are that he really seems to enjoy it and it takes him longer to eat than regular kibble. The 12 kg size means I can order less frequently.The only drawback I've found is that crumbs get left behind after the dog has chewed them all up. This just means I have to sweep the floor after every meal.
Like savory tater tots my medium dog loves them mixed with our smaller kibble, on their own, hand feed, hidden in toys, fits in slow feed bowls. Just needs to get better at chewing, because the size seems to be just small enough for her medium-kong sized mouth to still gulp down one or two at a time lol. Seems more on the airey side and not much resistance (like a cheese puff) when chews do happen, so the lower caloric count makes sense.
Lots of reviews commenting about how big and hard the pieces are. I think they are large to ensure the dog actually chews the food. I had actually been thinking dental care food would be a futile effort for my dog, as he basically inhales his food, without chewing it. Then I opened the package, and it made sense. The pieces are hard, but I guess that's how it scrapes the plaque off. Alfie is missing several teeth, but eats this easily. It hasn't bothered his fussy stomach, and he seems to like it. But I can't imagine how smaller dogs than mine could chew it. Alfie is 12 pounds, but with a long snout. Sort of between a mini and regular dachshund.

If someone said you could eat cookies instead of brushing your teeth, do you think it would work? It doesn't do anything". I have tried all the different water additives and teeth cleaning treats and this is the first time I have ever noticed a difference. My smaller dog has historically high plaque and stinky breath. We brush his teeth all the time and have had them done professionally under anesthesia twice and he just has always had a lot of plaque build up. I will say that the individual pieces of kibble are rather large, which is what I think turns people off, but it's the chewing/breakdown part of it that actually cleans their teeth somehow. Our small dog is about 30 pounds and he does fine. Both our dogs love their "nuggies"!

We have been mixing 10 nuggets of this product in each twice daily feeding for 8 years and it has kept our trim 76 pound terrier's teeth in good shape, since he won't cooperate with having his teeth brushed. We didn't like brushing his teeth anyway. However he shied away from eating it at first, until I noticed him struggling to chew it up. Apparently, it's too hard for him to breakup in its current size, and we buy the smaller sized nuggets. I cut them in half and he stopped leaving them in the bowl. It would certainly be appreciated if Hills would make the nuggets in half size since it requires a very sharp knife to get through them, and it's a nuisance too. I've called to ask about this before and there was no reply or action. My small minature poodle loves them & they really work on the extreme plaque build up of his teeth. Although they are large (varying slightly in size/weight), he certainly manages to crunch them with such gusto & positive results, once he starts. Maybe the appearance of the size, is more daunting for the dog, that their ability to eat/consume them. Found a bit of mince rubbed on outside made Oral Care them more appealling, then once he starts. Found that approx 8 a day seems best for him, served first for his afternoon/evening meal, then topped up with recommended amount (for weight of dog) of Small Paws afterwards. Highly recommended.
