Absolutely Love this backpack. if You're familiar with the AMP24 , Get it. You can't beat the price. Great Fit, snugs and hugs the body well. The size is great for a 24hr pack, not small to where You subtract from Your load, not too big to where your back, body and profile are overwhelmed. The quality is for sure 5 stars if You're familiar with 5.11's excellence in the fabrication of ALL their products. Definitely worth having this pack either in active use or on standby, due to it's awesome versatility. The Geo7 terrain makes this backpack a real beauty to behold. One main compartment, spacious. The AMP24 is in short a grown up RUSH24. Less overtly tactical, slicker and just as utilitarian. In terms of the hex grid molle I have replaced this two side access pockets for a more streamlined look. The hexgrid system while appearing flimsy has however proved to be incredibly stable and strong in tests with old RUSH24 pouch accessories I own.PROS:Weight.Aesthetics.Functionality.Storage space.Storage options. Moving from a two layer 37 liter back to a one layer 32 was a non-issue. The admin section is handled uniquely by the mesh pockets. They defiantly hold what I need them to without feeling like I "must" buy a gear set now. The side pockets are great for the versatility. I see them being very valuable to put quick access items like gloves, water bottles, or fleece caps. One design feature on them I would have liked to see is a gusseted pocket so they can have some outward expansion instead of it taking up main compartment space. I know the main pro is to keep it stream lined. The bag feels super premium and all the zippers are reversed to protect them & provide water resistance. The Cons: The bottom pocket is nice to have, but hard to use. The zipper opening is too narrow. Maybe even just two or three inches more zipper would make it more usable. I wanted to store my gloves there, but with my contents in the main compartment, it makes it hard to access easily. I think it would be best for a thin item that you do not need to access daily like a rain coat or extra layer. My last two gripes about the bag is how narrow the sunglasses/tech pocket is. I can't fit my issues protective eye wear without it creating a weird looking bulge at the top and they definitely will not fit inside the case. It is great for headphones , back up battery or a phone. My last gripe is that the large mesh pocket cannot be configured where the keepers are fully exposed. With the bag sideways, I find it less convenient to have the mesh over the keepers than if the mesh was able to be rolled/folded down. Last word: The back panel is great and the straps are padded nicely. When I put all the contents of my previous pack inside, it carried much lighter. Great bag with lots of well thought out features. I am not going to go into the gear sets because if you are looking at these reviews, you have already been doing your homework and there are lots of videos that show how it works.

I have attempted to use this as a SAR pack, however, it falls short of achieving mission needs. This pack is great for enthusiasts, but still needs work for real deployments. I recommend going with the RUSH series for a general purpose/mission pack if you don't need "covertness".The pack overall looks cool and is very comfortable to wear and carry. The shoulder straps offer good utilization and are secure. The entire pack is nicely streamlined to be snag-free while aiming for the covert look. The interior compartment is spacious and fairly easy to access when retrieving gear from flat to sloped grounds.Unfortunately, the pack is a $$ sink. They market it as an "all mission pack", but you have to buy gearsets to achieve that. You cannot expand utilization without the gearsets. As it comes in the default config, it is underwhelming with deficiencies in utilization:1. Has waist strap loops but does not come with waist strap.2. Lacks lateral and bottom mounting options. Laser-cut molle would be great for expansion or latching options.3. Hexgrid is a joke. The hex pattern needs to be turned 90° to be usable for molle attachment.4. Square hook and loop patch site restrict it to morale patches and not actual dept nametapes/ agency ID. (even in the video, the "POLICE" tape is only half attached)
Overall this is a great pack. Comfortable straps. Plenty of pockets. Hidden storage. Flexible side pockets inside. Lining that's soft, but also accepts hook and loop. Protective laptop/tablet pocket that keeps your device from being near the floor if you set it down or drop it. Front hook and loop pocket that works very well for CCW or even a hook and loop holster. Lots of options you can add to the front. I own 5 of them. BUT I have two problems. The bottom pocket is completely unusable. It doesn't open enough to be able to put anything inside. If you do manage to wedge something in there, it's difficult to get it out, and impossible once the bag is packed. The second problem is the hex grid. The layout just wastes space. I was looking for the perfect bag to lug my boxing gear to the gym but could also be used as my EDC. I can easily fit my 16 oz gloves, sneakers, 32 ounce metal water bottle and shaker cup, along with my wallet phone keys and other essentials. Even with all my gear the bag fits comfortably despite my being short at 5'1. The bag was probably designed more for a guy's height and weight but I have always liked tactical gear. It is comfortable and not overly bulky but it feels quite long. I ended up buying the shove it gear set for the front so I could have a bit more organization and also throw a jacket or hoodie in the pouch. So far I really love the bag with my only real complaint being it doesn't stand straight on its own I have to lean it against a wall but that is ... So far I really love the bag with my only real complaint being it doesn't stand straight on its own I have to lean it against a wall but that is just me being nit picky. I bought several other bags before this for my gym gear and this seems to be the only one to get the job done. As for my EDC, it easily fits my chrome book. I put the honey comb gear set on the inside for more organization and the ability for pouches. It is almost too big for EDC but if I need more than my normal sling then this is my go to bag. So far the bag is tough enough to with stand my 2 year old son and keep my electronics safe. It is extremely well made and the material doesn't seem to get dirty. I haven't been out in the rain with it yet to test how waterproof it is. I would definitely recommend this bag!
I got this one (and the 72h version), as well as the helmet and med gearsets. I use it as my regular backpack for going/running to and back from work. Previously I used the Dart24 and the first thing I noticed is the difference in the back. The AMP is actually much more comfortable to run with (though I use a waist belt), but perhaps less comfortable to walk with unless you have waist belt due to the harder back. The outside is certainly more durable than in the Dart24, though I miss the key holder in an easily accessible pouch, and even the helmet gearset does not have one. I think there is one inside, but it requires going through two sets of zips, rather than just one in the Dart24 and that is not what you want to e doing after a run. That said you can use loops ... I think there is one inside, but it requires going through two sets of zips, rather than just one in the Dart24 and that is not what you want to e doing after a run. That said you can use loops on the gearset or the sunglasses pocket. I would prefer if the small pocket inside had the zip on the top and not the bottom, as I am too lazy to flip it completely and stuff sometimes falls out - not a deal breaker by any chance. My more serious (though still minor) comments are that the bag could be a half an inch wider and that there could be small MOLE/hexgrid on the sides of the bag. I would like the bag slightly wider, as when the main compartment is stuffed full it can be hard to get a 15inch laptop into the laptop/hydration compartment. though I appreciate that it could be problematic for persons with a smaller built if the bag was wider. Similarly, side attachments would be great - don't like my bag sticking out too much like camel's back, so side attachments would be great. I think if there were a couple of laser cut out MOLE attachments on either side it would not look too overt, but just imagine being able to have a gearset on the back, a first aid kit on one side, and another pouch on the other, and perhaps something attached to the bottom of the bag as well (same holds true for the AMP72).That said, I love several things about the bag and that is why it gets 5 stars. I love having one huge compartment, rather than the bag being split between a big and medium compartment. I need the space to carry spare clothing/uniform, food and other stuff. I use the sunglasses pocket regularly for my sunglasses and to hold my keys when running back home if I don't have the helmet gearset attached, and the concealed outer pocket for the other stuff I usually carry in my trouser pockets. The side compartment hold a decent size water bottle which is great. The hexgrid system is fun, and though I did not think I would at the beginning, now I am enjoying getting some funky morale patches. I have a pouch attached to the hexgrid that I usually use carry fruit so that if they smash they don't get the inside of the bag dirty, and I'll probably get the ignitor first aid pouch at some point as well. The bag looks both smart and durable. I use the bottom pouch to carry a rain cover.I would recommend it wholeheartedly, though I would also love to see 5.11 apply my suggestions to any future version.
For years I've worn 5.11's Rush 24. It's great at what it does and I love it, but it isn't very subtle when out and about. As a reservist I wanted a pack with features and durability needed for military purposes, but with a lower profile better suited for everyday adventures out and about. I chose the black AMP 24, and it's done very well to date. What you get out of the box is the pack and a hexgrid gearset. There's two sleeves in the side that work great with Nalgene bottles. When full the pack expands the most at the top, like an inverted tear drop. On the ground it won't sit upright unless propped against something, but it helps with weight distribution when you're wearing it. On the ground it won't sit upright unless propped against something, but it helps with weight distribution when you're wearing it. There are two zipper pulls on the top and additional ones on the side to allow access to the bottom of the pack without digging through everything which is a nice touch. Overall the materials feel lighter than the Rush. It doesn't seem less durable, but rather more refined.Compared to the Rush it seemed a bit bare bones at first, like a blank slate. By design gearsets are essential to getting the most out of the bag, adding the features you want where you want it. I went with the helmet/shove it set. The front zipper area has plenty of room for phones, pens, gloves, small notebooks etc. Meanwhile the expandable pouch area is great for holding all kinds of bulkier items like running shoes, jackets, bottles etc.The gearset gives you plenty of extra space on the outside of the pack when you need it most. And when you don't it secures nicely and covers the exterior velcro patch completely making the pack very low profile and ideal for civilian settings. It might not be the best option for you but for me it added tons of capability and I quickly grew to love it.While researching I've seen others say that the foam backpad is too stiff for their liking. When the pack is loaded you come to appreciate it, but when you don't need it you can remove the polymer sheet in the bladder area to give you extra flexibility and comfort. Speaking of hydration bladders it works just fine. The hole for the drinking tube is cleverly designed and isn't obvious but it's there and works great.Rush 24 is a great bag built like a tank with aesthetics to match. The AMP 24 is more refined and filled my needs well. It is a sleek jack of all trades that blends that toughness with finesse and flexibility. With the help of the right gear set, it's a pack that can adapt to whatever you throw at it.
I'm not active service, so I'll begin with that. I work engineering, and carry this as a work bag as well as EDC. I've been through a few severe rainstorms with no equipment harmed inside. I've tried out the shove-it Gear Set and found the customizability with that concept to be quite nice, and very secure to the pack. At first glance there doesn't seem to be many pockets, but the pockets are clever and spacious in design, and end up being more than plentiful. Overall this has been a great bag so far and I really enjoy the hook and loop aspect; traditional MOLLE attachments can still live in the grid, but smaller hook and loop organizer accessories are directly applicable to the pack interior unlike most others.
This bag gets a solid 4 of 5 stars here. PROS:I really enjoy how customizable the inside and outside of the bag is with the many different gear choices you can attach to it. This really helps you customize the bag to fit your needs. Whether that is mission specific, being super dad, or just as your EDC. This bag allows you set up any way and style you'd like. The CCW pocket on the front is a solid feature that is thoughtful. The loop on the inside allows you to attach any velcro holster or if you have a belt clip, there is a place to attach that to. Really awesome pocket, however, if the bag is fully cinched up on your back, it will take a few seconds to take the bag off to access your weapon. This takes longer than I personally like. The mesh pockets on the inside ... MoreThis bag gets a solid 4 of 5 stars here. Really awesome pocket, however, if the bag is fully cinched up on your back, it will take a few seconds to take the bag off to access your weapon. This takes longer than I personally like. The mesh pockets on the inside work well. The big mesh pocket can be accessed from either side of the bag which is cool, and the holders on the inside work great for mag pouches or to keep phone cords together and neat. The top mesh pouch is great for portable charger and other tech gear. The small pockets on the outside and bottom are really cool and great additions. I have used the bottom pocket as a trash pocket and the small side pockets to hold keys/wallet while rucking/hiking. But these can also hold sunglasses, protein bars or other snacks etc. DOWNFALL:The major downfall to this backpack is the very back pocket, which is compatible for a laptop or hydration bladder. While this works exponentially well for a laptop, it is in fact pointless for a hydration bladder to go in this pocket. There is no port for the hose of the hydration bladder to exit for you to use/drink from while rucking/hiking. There is a little hook-n-loop hanger for your bladder, but no exit port for the drinking tube to run through. Also the zippers (theres two) start on the bottom on opposite sides of this pocket. While this is a solid feature allowing you to access the pocket from either side, this also makes it impossible the hose to zippered at the top, since the zippers only meet in the middle if both sides of that pocket are open. This back pocket is very disappointing. I bought this bag for its versatility and ability to literally go on any mission with me. But this one hiccup on the design, not putting a port for the hydration hose, could lead to mission failure while hiking/rucking (especially in the heat). If I would have known this fact upfront, I might have purchased the Rapid Quad Zip Pack 28L as it has most of the same features (not the outside front) with a functional hydration pocket and is about 1/2 the price.
