I've owned five pairs of the original A.T.A.C. 8" Side Zip Boot and had a chance to get the A.T.A.C.® 2.0 8" Shield Boot with Zipper. Because of this connecting material I couldn’t open up the side of the boots wide enough to put my feet in and out.For me this is a huge disappointment, because when I first put the boots on and then tightened the laces the boots seemed to fit fine with the zipper zipped up, but after unzipping the boots there wasn’t enough spacing due to the limitation of the opening up the side of the boots due to the material which hinders open up the side of the boots.As a result, I would have loosen up the laces to get my feet out of the boots, which defeats the purpose of having the zippers, which should have allowed enough spacing so it would be easy to put the boots on and take them off without having to loosen up the laces like my original A.T.A.C. 8" Side Zip Boots.In this respect 5.11 Tactical failed in their design and I had to return these boots, which I purchased via mail order.Had I had the opportunity to try them on in person I would have immediately notice this issue and not purchased the boots…

Wish there was an option for 4.75 stars, because these aren't quite 5 star. As a long time owner of ATAC 1.0's I love the changes that were made, especially the loop in the back and the hard toe. There are only three changes I would make. One would be a deeper knife pocket. It's a bit shallow for longer EDCs. I'm not sure if this next one is possible, but it would be nice if they were easier to tie tight. When pulling tight, the lower laces loosen as you move up unless you hold them as you are tightening. Either wax laces out of the box or different eyelets I think would solve this issue. The final thing is more niche. I am a toe-to-opposite-heel boot remover (yes I know that is not a good thing). Ive been wearing the V1's for the past 4 years (1 pair a year). Im sad to see I can no longer get that same boot anymore. I bought these V2's and instantly hated the fit. Bought these boots about 5 months ago and wear daily but they're not abused. I'm in construction management so need safety boots for site visits only.Unlike previous tactical boots I've had ie swats and magnums these boots required about two or three weeks to break in and become comfortable. That i could put up with but not the lack of waterproofness! Was just out a couple of days ago and was fishing a marshy shoreline and was standing in about 3 inches of water. After about 5 minutes my feet felt clammy but I have sort of felt that before with other WP breathable boots so I thought little of it. After 10 minutes though there was no doubt my feet were wet and the claim that they're WP is totally bogus!They're an okay boot if WP means little to you but for me, it ... These boots sure seem to be taking a long time to break in compared to my previous 4 pairs I have purchased and are also quite heavier. I have been wearing 511 boots sense 2015 so this is not my first pair. My feet sure do hurt by the end of the work day. But, this is the first pair I have purchased with the safety toe. I didn’t know i was getting this toe style until they arrived. It seemed to be the only ones I found with a 12w in the 8” black style that was waterproof. I’m just not as happy with this pair as my 511 boots in the past. At least 1/2 of the week I wear my old boots just to give my feet a break!
Purchased these ATAC shield boots in August 2022. Now it’s January 2023 and I have to replace them. Not worth the money they charge. These boots are not like the original ATAC shield boots. These boots run smaller and narrow. You have to buy a shelf size bigger. When it’s warm your feet will get humid. The don’t breath like the original ones did. The rubber around the leather toe area is now pulling away from the leather. Causing water to get into the shoe. Time to go back to Danner. Boot strings are good. The zippers are good. The pull on loops are strong. These boots just aren’t what they used to be.

I discovered there, that these model boots lack breathability and hold in odor, regardless of how long you use them. But they are not the boot to choose for somebody who will be wet and sweating. My first time wearing them was simply on a 12 hour plane journey in completely fresh clothing when they were brand new, and yet I discovered the boots retain odors. By the end of that plane journey the boots already stank and the rubber like texture doesnt help. If you're in an environment where airing them out, cleaning them and waiting to dry isnt an option, you'll just have to deal with the rubbery mildew smell which develops if you cant wash them immediately. Nobody can bunk with a person who stinking boots, If you know, you know. If you are heading into an austere environment these are not the boots to choose. They have an authoritative appearance and give you ankle support, but the rubber texture really withholds smell. They are decently comfortable but I'd prefer halcyon tactical boots from 5.11 any day. They are comfortable, give great ankle support, and put some bounce into your step. As well as having great breathability and not having that odor-increasing rubber texture. I feel bad giving them a low rating but it's my honest experience with the Shield 2.0
I am a Police Officer and use the 5.11 ATAC 8inch shield boot everyday for my shift. Last night, I was attempting to take a suspect into custody who was robbing a gas station at gunpoint. The suspect saw my partner and I pull up to the scene and fled on foot. He ran to his vehicle at which point both the suspect and myself were engaged in a fight. The suspect was able to get into his car and shifted it into reverse. My foot was caught under the vehicle and I was trapped. He accelerated quickly in reverse dragging me approximately 10-15 feet under his car tire. He came to a stop briefly at which point both my feet were trapped under his tire. He then quickly accelerated and ran over both my ankles / feet with both set of tires. Due to the exceptional protection of ... These boots are nowhere near as good as the original ATAC Shields. Originals were naturally wider, so no need to get "wide" sizes. Now, the regular is made for super narrow feet and the wide is mde for super fat feet. There was nothing wrong with the original ATACs and no need to change. Now i have to find all new boots from somewhere else. Ive been buying the original ATACs for 10+ years, never an issue except one pair the sole separated prematurely. I guess they wanted to charge more for boots that cost them leat to manufacturer and are lower quality materials that fail faster.
