I also found that the focus scale marks were quite unreliable at distances of a few feet.Ah, but what about just using the depth-of-field scale on the lens barrel to set your hyperfocal distance? Forget about it! That scale is just a purely fictional decoration. For example, if I set the infinity mark at f/8 on the left, the focal point is set to about 3.5 feet (nominal) (but about 1 foot actual) with everything supposedly in focus from infinity down to about 2 feet (nominal). Would that were so!Oh, and by the way, the extreme corners of the image do fall off noticeably in IQ at all apertures. This does not bother me but may bother you.Bottom line? This is a quite decent lens for its price, making it a 4 out of 5 for me It may meet your needs very well as long as you know what you are getting.

This lens does not leave my X-E2s. I love the look and character of the images produced, with fantastic contrast and bokeh. Of Fuji primes, I have shot the XF14mm, 18mm, 27mm and 35mm f2. The 7artisans 25mm ties for favorite with the 35 (53mm equivalent). The corners are not sharp, but I dont take photos to look at corners. Images are incredibly sharp at f8. This lens is so bright that I usually shoot with exposure compensation at -1 2/3. Shooting a manual lens helps my camera battery last for days of shooting. I highly recommend this lens for beautiful images. But if you need to make quick shots, on the move, opt for a lens with auto focus.
I would not recommend this lens for landscape photographers, corners are bad, really bad. However the close focusing and bokeh rendering of this lens is fantastic. If this is your thing then this lens is a real value for the money! My copy of this lens has surprisingly nice build quality but is a little fiddly to use only due to its small size. It reminds me a lot of the old Industar 50mm f3.5 but with much smoother focusing. This lens will absolutely create beautiful images if used within its limits. I'd say definitely buy it if your looking for an artsy lens with good subject isolation, nice fall off and big bubble bokeh. Look elsewhere if your looking for a landscape lens on a budget. I have been using this lens for a couple weeks now. The last time I took it out I tried landscape photography. I noticed that the focus tended to be a little unstable: when set exactly, it would shortly thereafter shift just a little, after I removed my hands from the focus ring. This is not a show-stopper, it just means I have to be a little bit more careful while using it. Otherwise clarity and color and bokeh is great, especially for the price. Image sharpness is good across the frame at F8, while center sharpness is excellent even wide open. At wider apertures than F5.6, there is a definite drop in sharpness at the edges of the image. The lens mounted smoothly and it looks terrific on my X-T1 and is featherweight compared to the Fuji 18-55 f/2.8.Initial test shots have exceeded my expectations. Excellent color rendition and contrast, center is tack sharp at f/1.8, creamy bokeh and while extreme corners are not sharp wide open, they are not any worse than my Nikkor prime shot wide open. DOF at f/1.8 is amazingly narrow, far narrower than my old Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 prime.The lens has character - it is not sterile like many technically perfect Japanese lenses. It evokes emotion and feeling. It produces organic images with soul.Test shots are sooc jpegs at f/1.8.Considering that the price I paid for this lens was less than the sales tax on the 23mm Fuji f/1.4 prime, I am simply amazed. I highly recommend this lens and am looking forward to using it for my fine art photography.
While waiting for a mk2 version if the fuji 23mm to come out next year, I decided to try out another brand and landed on the 7artisans 25mm. The look and reviews seemed promising for this lens compared to other similar offerings from other brands. This lens is a great match for the Fujifilm X-Pro3. With the OVF and mini screen pop up you can focus in really well. This 25mm has its own look and style. I really enjoy all its imperfections along with its well designed build quality.
For the money, the lens is beautifully made. It certainly looks the part on my X-E2 and I'm sure the optics are more than adequate for the 16MP sensor. But I found the lens really difficult to use. I found it hard to focus. The ring just doesn't offer much grip and it feels just like the aperture ring, making it difficult to tell one from the other without taking the camera from my eye and looking at the lens. The TTArtisans 23mm f1.4 is a vastly superior design in handling terms, with its more deeply cut knurling on the focus ring; well worth the difference in cost.
