Just brought the drive home, literally brand new out of the box. Using the supplied AC power cord and US adapter. Drive won't power on. No light, no sound, nothing. I guess it's just a lemon from the factory. Beyond frustrating as I've been using LaCie products for years and never had an issue like this. Will be returning as soon as BH is open again. Wasted my morning picking this up and now my home backup is delayed and I can't clear my shuttle drives. Huge waste of time.

Not bad. I needed a low cost RAID to edit some Multicam videos for my church with my 16 MacBook Pro. With the USB-C connection on this drive I'm able to playback and edit 3 cameras and audio in HD 1080 30P with no problems. I doubt it would be up to doing 4K but 1080P is what I need for mastering these Youtube videos. I have the Caldigit TS3 Plus dock with my Mac but it seems to get too warm under heavy use so I plug this hard drive directly into one of the MacBook Pro ports. When starting up this LaCie sounds like frogs croaking but doesn't make a lot of noise when up to speed.Overall I would prefer Thunderbolt 2 or 3 but for a 2 disc hard drive you don't gain that much of an advantage. I wasn't sure when I bought it but USB-C seems like a viable alternative ... MoreNot bad. I needed a low cost RAID to edit some Multicam videos for my church with my 16 MacBook Pro. More or less plug-and-play. No more dip switches, simply an install app that asks a couple of questions and sets up your raid system for you. Really appreciate that I can plug the USB into an older mac system with no problem.

This drive comes preset to RAID 0, and converting to RAID 1 (mirroring) requires using the supplied setup software. When I tried this on my Windows 10 laptop, the setup failed and the drive could no longer be recognized by my computer. Checked with LaCie support and they could not find a solution, so I had to send it back. Now I'm just using two independent drives (also LaCie) with mirroring software to get the same job done.
I needed some extra storage for projects that were heading into their final stages. I wanted something to have a lot of storage but still have good speeds. So I opted to set this up in raid 0. Once a project is sent to client for their first draft and round of revisions, I send all the media to the Raid to free space off my SSD. In Raid 0 the transfers are fast, and if I need work in the project again, it’s fast enough to work off of. The software makes setting up the drives extremely easy. It also appears very easy to swap out the drives if they get full so I don’t have to spend extra cash on enclosures.
Overall, I'd say that the size of the external drive is not a big factor, and that includes the noise that it makes with the fan and the spinny drives inside - unavoidable. However, the fact that I receive daily errors stating, "drive not ready" when I am trying to save a file is NOT GOOD! On more than a dozen times, I'd save a file, receive the error, save again, which appeared to work only to discover that it has NOT saved. Also, if you do not change the AutoPlay feature within Window's settings, the drive will open the File Manager at will. It also likes to close the File Manager when it wishes... Very finicky...
Needed storage for my new video editing monster laptop and found it in this LaCie 8TB that I am using in RAID 0. I'm usually a RAID 5 guy, but giving it a shot since during these times, a 4 or 5 disk RAID was out of the budget. It spins up quickly. I leave it on and it spins down when the computer goes off. My M.2 SSD boots my computer in about 6 seconds and the LaCie beats it to the draw. I've had sustained reads and writes around 200 MBps, even off of the RAID 5 NAS units I use. Quiet and a looker as well. Really can't ask much more from a 2 drive box.
Verry good supplier.Only here I find what I need, fast delivery.
If you need RAID this is a great product, in RAID configuration the transfer rate is slow BUT I use this more for backup on not data processing from the drives...IF you can justify the SSD (about 2x the price) this is by far the fastest and safest way to go....
I initially failed with Western Digital Duo 12Tb No customer support. this worked easily. Great for Macs
