I own five Gen1 Revo S-L reels, they are very versatile and adaptable to nearly any technique. I prefer using mine for finesse approaches, as they excel at throwing lighter lures. The simple centrifugal-pin braking system is reliable and robust. Although the S model is the 'bottom' of the Revo line, it is by no means inferior to its more expensive brethren. Its simplicity is its strength. I didn't think Abu could do much to improve on the S model... until I got my brand-new Gen3. The Gen3 updates include a larger drive gear and gearcase, for a more robust drivetrain and more drag surface area. there is now a small 'lube port' on the bottom of the case. Havent spooled thia reel up yet. Looks a feels very nice. Ive been using the original revo x for almost 4 years now so i hope this one gives no issues likw the old one.

Works well. New to bait casting but by keeping a bit extra tension I can stay backlash free while increasing skill. Tight real with smooth drag And fast retrieve. Decent value. Just be sure if your going to hit a branch early or throw into stuff wind your ready on the thumb. Lots of good YouTube videos on how to master these reels.
I've always liked the Abu Garcia line. I have two Max Pros that work very well. Purchased my first Revo X 7.3:1 and was impressed. I can cast with no issues with backlashes or overrun that are caused by the reel. I actually have this reel set pretty loose and still have no issues. Skipping is a breeze with this reel which is also very nice. I do set my mag brake about 3 clicks up for skipping but the tension is still loose; the spool has a little bit of side to side movement - about a millimeter so that's pretty loose. Overall, this is a great reel, super smooth, and it looks like I will be selling my Kastking Speed Demon Skipping & Pitching reel and replace it with another AG Revo X! Going with the 6.6:1 this time though...
I like the reel but when they shipped it to me it came by itself without the typical material inside the box.ot was like they got a demo reel and just put it in the box and shipped it out. I was going to exchange it but I didn't feel like hearing excuses or the hassle of returning it. Next time I will have to go in person to make future reel purchases.
Awesome reel! Tool it out and was very impressed with how well it casts. Super smooth. Used it side by side with my revo 4x (which i love) and the revo 5 cast better. I just hope frame holda up, since its not metal any more.
I am really glad i nabbed one of these reels while from Academy. Small, lightweight but plenty of power. What's not to like?
Now one of my favorites reels, highly recommend this reel. It has enough drag power to where you can just turn fish with zero problems. Definitely will be grabbing another one soon
