I ordered this because it came recommended multiple times in my searches online. The first one i ordered had problems charging, it would charge a couple minutes then stop. I could only ever get it to around 60% charged. I promptly returned it and ordered another thinking it was just a defective one and it still seems like a good computer. I reordered, and the same exact issue. Plug it in and it charges for a couple minutes then stops. Unplug and replug, nothing. Try again, charges for a couple of minutes and stops.

I purchased an Acer Aspire 5 A515 a few weeks ago that started having intermittentWi-Fi network connection problems. It just wouldn't show any networks at all to connect to.I tried to fix the issue with help form Acer Canada on their chat line, but they were not able to figure out what the problem was. I returned the laptop to BestBuy within the 30 day warranty and they just replaced the defective laptop with a new one. The replacement laptop hasn't shown the same issue, so far! Good job BestBuy !What I like: Touch screen is very responsive, the back lit keyboard is very helpful in a dark environment. The i3 Intel chip is fast enough and seems to be the right combo with the 8MB Ram and the 512G SSDrive is more than enough storage for my kind of light use. What I ... MoreI purchased an Acer Aspire 5 A515 a few weeks ago that started having intermittentWi-Fi network connection problems. There was no response from the power button, either turning off or turning on. It took about an hour of punching keys for the issue to resolve itself. It hasn't done it again, but I'm still wondering if perhaps there might be an inherent issue with this computer.

It's fast.My 4 yr old Acer E15 core i5 was slowing.Unfortunately, that 4 yr old glass screen was nicer. I would have thought going for solid state, 20gb ram, that Everything about this computer would be nicer or as nice as the old one. Sadly, even though this one states "full HD 1080p" , it has a grainier appearance. Not bad. Otherwise, I love the backlit keyboard, the fingerprint scanner, the speed. The fan was doing really odd things the other day, whirring really loudly on basic internet searches, but I think I may have had the vents blocked by some paperwork (let your laptop cool off with proper ventilation) great computer... I'm Tickled to Bits! I'm Linda J. This is a review from an extremely happy customer! NOT A ROBIT lol .... Awesome for the price!!! I just received this laptop and am so thrilled with it! I have a friend that is an IT specialist, I have very limited funds and he was so happy to see what I got for the money! I did get it on sale, but such a beautiful, very light, attractive laptop for the price! I did buy an open box laptop so I saved about 50 bucks for that as well! I had a very limited budget so it was super important to find something good for an average user laptop that had good components for the money! My IT friend was impressed at what I got for the price! I spent my very hard-earned cash to come up with on it, and I mean it! I have to say I raved about it to my friends when I received it recently. This is a nice looking great product for a low price. Don't hesitate to buy... Thank you, Linda
I'm really happy with this Acer Aspire open box laptop. Better than the Asus Vivobook in my humble opinion. I love the feel of the keys and I love the backlit keyboard (Bestbuy got it wrong in their specifications section. They say there is no backlit keyboard, but there is). It is a bit of a bummer the backlight only comes on after you tap once and then disappears after a few seconds of no contact, but I get it that it preserves the battery to make it that way. Speaking of the battery, that is the only true negative of the laptop, and why it is not 5 stars. Right out of the box, It only lasts about 4-5 hrs on a full charge. I'm not too distressed about it, because I only use my laptop at home, so I can plug it in. But it is an annoyance to have to plug it in a lot. ... MoreI'm really happy with this Acer Aspire open box laptop. Better than the Asus Vivobook in my humble opinion. - 1 year update - I would still rate it 5 stars but with some caveats! I regularly use this laptop for video and photo editing, heavily modded games, and internet use. It handles all three beautifully. I haven't had any issues with over heating, lagging, freezing, etc. The fans can occasionally get loud but nothing terrible or consistent. I definitely recommend buying an external hard drive or additional storage. Performance wise, it does everything it claims, and it does it well. That being said, there are 3 major complaints about this laptop. The screen has pretty poor viewing angles, and I spend a little too long having to adjust the screen every time I use it. Color accuracy is good enough, but there's definitely a matte sheen that doesn't go away no matter how ... More- 1 year update - I would still rate it 5 stars but with some caveats! Color accuracy is good enough, but there's definitely a matte sheen that doesn't go away no matter how you adjust the settings. I'm not looking for an OLED screen so I can deal with this, but if you're looking for something with the best screen, you should probably pass this laptop up. My other complaints are in regards to the keyboard. Because you're also fitting a numpad onto a laptop, the layout needs some getting used to. I regularly still find myself mis-clicking letters, and it doesn't help that the keys aren't backlit like some other models are advertised. Ultimately these issues aren't enough for me to actively dislike this laptop, but they definitely can be bothersome. - Original Review - First laptop, second computer ever. Did a lot of research for something that was good for general use, as well as art/editing programs. Laptop came quick and as described. Have used it for a few weeks for internet browsing, video editing, etc, it handles everything extremely well. The fans turn on loudly maybe once so far. Really nice having a keypad, though it does take a while to adjust to the shifted keyboard. Definitely check what processor your Acer Aspire has as there's a few different models with varying speeds. No complaints. overall - a very well made laptop.
Unfortunately all I was trying to save money by not purchasing a Mac. I found out that this really did not meet my needs. I was looking for a home computer and this is not at all compatible with my Mac products. I'm taking it back today in hopes of buying a Mac. I will see if it will be an easy product to exchange or if it will be a hassle. Hopefully it will be easy as I am spending more money. The buying experience was not difficult unfortunately, being a senior, I did not realize the limitations. This is strictly a personal situation, not reflective of the products, performance or the person that sold it to me.
I'm a website designer and purchased this laptop mainly to do work while away from my home desktop computer, where I'm spoiled by two monitors and a very high speed internet connection.Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. The computer boots up quickly and has enough speed to do everything I need to do. While the screen isn't the most vibrant, at least it's anti-glare, which I greatly prefer to those glossy screens that display beautifully - until I've got my fingerprints all over them! The biggest drawback to this computer is the keyboard. While it feels okay to type on it (no modern laptop has the mechanical keys I love), it's the layout that is driving me crazy. Being in a bilingual country, I totally understand and support Acer's desire to have the keyboard ... MoreI'm a website designer and purchased this laptop mainly to do work while away from my home desktop computer, where I'm spoiled by two monitors and a very high speed internet connection.Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. While it feels okay to type on it (no modern laptop has the mechanical keys I love), it's the layout that is driving me crazy. Being in a bilingual country, I totally understand and support Acer's desire to have the keyboard identify both English and French characters. What they've unfortunately tried to do is add the number pad keys to the offering! This not only diminishes the size of the primary keys, but ends up making a dog's breakfast in the arrangement of the editing keys (home, insert, etc.), even making one or more of them initially unintelligible! So, in addition to miniscule up and down arrow keys, there are three-columns of number keys that also double as editing keys. While some are obviously identified (e.g. End/Fin), the 'home' key is mysteriously identified solely with a left-pointing arrow! And doesn't Acer realize that add-on USB number keypads are available for the small percentage of users that would actually desire and use such a thing?! I'd be much happier if the entire width of the laptop's body were devoted to keys more closely arranged and spaced comparable to a typical desktop keyboard.
It comes with Windows-S mode.I bought this to run Linux and remote desktop to my fast desktop computer. :-)4GB is NOT enough ram to run full Windows but it is more than enough to run Linux. There is a more expensive model with 8GB of ram and an SSD but you really need 8-16GB of ram to run full Windows. Windows-S mode is like a Chromebook but from Microsoft. You can only install software from the Microsoft play store.I think this MIGHT have a free slot for more ram but I really don't know.It has an Intel AX201 wireless card (wifi6) which has a Linux in-kernel driver. :-)I haven’t tried the wired ethernet but it is Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. I've had this a few months now and all ok. I like the extra cage they give you to add another hard drive inside the laptop relatively easily. Only issue was the USB-C isn't designed to do video output. I do have a USB-C dock which works Ok for all the other bits (keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc), but not for video on this laptop. There is a bit of chat on the forums about USB-C video out not being built-in, but the laptop does have a separate HDMI out which is Ok. Its not going to win any speed contests or FPS gaming contests without a dedicated GPU, but it is a good home laptop at a very reasonable price. I teamed with Office 365. I've had a few ACER products over the years and they are usually bullet-proof and this laptop appears to be the same.
