Firstly, that I could even simply acknowledge a text message through the Fitbit link with my mobile device, which is not android and secondly, I really wish that I didn't have to wear my normal watch and this watch both on my left wrist - it's not ideal. (I did try it on my dominant hand with changed settings however, this resulted in completely inaccurate data and many, many steps being countered going over bumps in the road, whilst in the car. Thus, both watches are on my left arm, which isn't my preference but it's worth it.) if you are considering buying a Fitbit charge because you want to monitor your steps, get healthier etc., then I would highly recommend. It is certainly cheaper than the big named electronic watches and does a great job!

I don't use any other features and don't subscribe, so it doesn't cost more, but there may be a cheaper one.

This is a long-term review. I have had this watch for ~18 months. It is total junk. Here is a partial list of my complaints:- Autowake on the display is flaky at best, sometimes leaving you to furiously poke at it with your finger until it decides to wake up.- The touch screen behaves inconsistently.- Alarms sometimes randomly fail to go off.- The included strap broke within a few months, and new straps are expensive and lame (the longest lasting strap I have is one that I made myself by cannibalizing the hardware off of one of their fabric straps that lasted a few months and combining it with 3/4" nylon webbing and velcro).- Syncing with the Fitbit app on my iphone 13 pro frequently fails, and the only way to fix it is to reboot the watch.- Nearly every ... MoreThis is a long-term review. But when you factor in the cost of 2-3 new watch straps per year over the lifetime of the device, the low initial upfront cost isn't so low after all...

I started wearing a Fitbit back in 2018 when my health-conscious daughter bought each of us in the family a Fitbit so we could track our steps and she could harass us about our lack of healthy activities. My 1st Fitbit Charge 2 lasted just about 3 weeks past the 1 year warranty period. Called customer service and they surprisingly and readily sent me a new one. Great! The new one did a little better and lasted 18 months. Although wary of Fitbit’s quality, to keep family unity, and based on their great customer experience, I bought a new Charge 3, which also lasted about 18 months. I thought I was done paying premium prices for Chinese made merchandise that doesn’t last. So, I bought a bought a $25 knockoff (also made in China because US made electronics don’t exist- I searched), and while the knockoff’s user interfaces aren’t as good, it’s reliability has been better than the Fitbit and it’s still working fine 18 months later. In August of 2022, my wife bought me a new Fitbit Charge 5, so I graciously accepted it and started wearing it (don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right). It was ok. A little glitchy and needed rebooting every month or two but worked fine for almost a year, until it didn’t (after 360 days exactly). This time customer service was also helpful and confirmed that it was faulty and needed to be replaced and referred it to the warranty dept. The warranty department then sent an email saying they are refusing to honor the warranty, not based on the date of purchase, but on the fact that I bought it on Amazon (apparently from a very reputable, but still 3rd party seller) and not shipped directly from an Amazon warehouse directly. That is deceptive and unfair. Fitbit made the product, advertises the warranty and should stand behind it. I called customer service back, but no amount of appealing to reason or asking to speak to a manager was of any use. Google bought Fitbit for $2.1 billion in 2021 and it seems things have gone downhill since then. It seems to me that Google is trying to get some of that $$$ back by denying legitimate warranty requests. Maybe they will get the rest back by selling more personal information for advertising, or finding an even cheaper Asian factory to make the products in. (Sorry for that little personal editorial). Either way, be aware, these are very short-lived products you will be spending your hard earned money on. There are much better options out there. My son abandoned his Fitbit early on and has been using a Samsung smartwatch which has lasted at least 4 years and is still going strong. Buyer beware of Fitbit, especially now! It's interesting and probably not a coincidence that there is no place for customers to leave reviews for any of the products on the Fitbit website.Pros: Fitbits are generally pretty user friendly and have intuitive, useful phone apps Fitbits provide fairly extensive and useful health metrics and information (Good customer service prior to acquisition by Google)Cons: Extremely poor longevity and lifespan (average lifespan 1.25 years) Can be glitchy and need rebooting every month or two within that short lifespan Poor customer service/ refuse to honor warranty on the most recent Charge 5 that became non-operational in less than a year (360 days to be exact)

More features than I need

Probably should do your research before buying. There are many Fitbit models and this one may or may not be the best one for you. I'm just a regular non-athlete and I bought it mostly to track my sleep instead of apps where I have to guess my sleeping and waking and type in the numbers myself. It seems to be pretty accurate about it. It's noticeable when you wear it, but not uncomfortable. The band is simple and it's easy to wear or remove the device and it stays on. I just wanted something as simple as possible without a lot of fancy features that my smartphone already does. The charging cable is particular to this device so don't lose it. It's not really clear on the device what the battery level is. You have to use the app. But battery life is decent. As I bought this with the onset of winter, I haven't used it to track walking and biking that I do in the warmer months. But it has a GPS built in so I'm sure it will do great at that. It's probably not so great at tracking the other type of workouts I do. For some reason, there's only room in the app/device to track 5 or so types of workouts when I rotate between 8 to 10 different kinds. It also won't let me both track an exercise and use the stopwatch feature. There are some other features the watch does but I am dubious about the value and/or don't need them. Supposedly you can track heart rhythm, your relaxation level, and (for women) your menstrual cycle. Probably won't use any of those, but it's OK for what I do use it for. Finally, the companion app on your phone can provide useful summaries on a daily or weekly basis.

Not good for swimmers.
16 April 2023

I swim every other day, varying about 1,500 to 4,500 yards, but basically for more than an hour at a time. At first I thought it was my fingerpads not being recognized on the touch screen. It got to the point that I couldn't swipe to the screen where I could select "swim" since it defaults to run (followed by bike and then swim). Then I started to have issues double tapping it to end the swim timer. Finally, it didn't recognize any amount of tapping, shaking or resetting and developed this blue highlighted outline on the face even when there was no display. I called the customer service and they were perfectly receptive and sent me a new face ( just the face, no new strap) after washing new through a couple of troubleshooting exercises. I'm a little wary of using it ... MoreI swim every other day, varying about 1,500 to 4,500 yards, but basically for more than an hour at a time. I'm a little wary of using it again in the water, but that's my primary exercise, so it's not quite doing the job I wanted it to do. I start the "swim" selection before I start my sets, but I would like it to track my heart rate while I'm in the water. Online reviews share that it might be the warm shower that's loosening the rubber seals, and not the usually cooler pool water. Apparently the Advance Sense Fitbit is more amenable to water exercises, although they're all supposed to be water resistant to 50 meters. I don't know how that translates to lap swimming for up to 2 hours, but I will find out.

Stay away from this device.

Stay away from this watch! When I initially bought mine, I loved it... I thought it was the best watch ever for the first couple of months; however, I've ran into some problems... The GPS went out, and no longer works on the device. After doing some research, here's my review on the Fitbit Charge 5, and Fitbit devices as a whole:1. They're cheaply made, and only last anywhere from a few months to a year. Do some research, and you'll learn that the average lifespan of a Fitbit device is significantly shorter than most other smart watches. You have a better chance at winning the lottery than you do having your Fitbit last more than a year.2. Fitbit support is a nightmare to work with. They do offer a warranty in case the watch breaks down, but trying to get them to honor the warranty is like pulling the teeth out of your mouth (this has been my personal experience). You can spend hours with them, providing video and picture evidence over email, troubleshooting issues on the phone, etc. and they will still try to deny you the warranty. Do yourself a favor, and don't buy this watch so you wont have to deal with them.3. Even if your device lasts, things on the device will start to break down. In my case, it was the GPS tracking. It's totally shot. If you ever want to track a run or walk accurately, don't even bother. The GPS within this device is terrible.I would recommend buying a Garmin watch. They last and work properly. Checkout the Garmin Forerunner 245. It's a little bit more expensive, but definitely worth the extra money. If you want to own a Fitbit, just be ready to buy 2 or 3 of them every year.

Watch Causing Rash - Possible Solution
14 August 2023

Note for Tiffany, or ANYONE having allergic reactions to pretty much any wearable directly underneath the watch/tracker itself and not the band. The two types of light are used in the sensors, normal visible light and sometimes Infrared light, it is highly unlikely this to be the problem, but its not impossible, I thought I should mention it.The most likely cause is "Nickle", which is considered a "chemical element". Nickle is sometimes often mixed with cobalt, iron, copper and ARSENIC. My guess is THIS is the issue. I suggest getting some CLEAR nail polish and CAREFULLY paint all the metal surfaces, then let it dry.NOTICE: DO NOT POLISH THE SENSORS IN ANYWAY, IT COULD DAMAGE THEM AND CAUSE THEM TO GIVE VERY FALSE READINGS, This should solve the issue, the clear ... MoreNote for Tiffany, or ANYONE having allergic reactions to pretty much any wearable directly underneath the watch/tracker itself and not the band. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to cover any questions and introduce you to the Wonders of Clear Nail Polish. LOL... Hope it helps.
