A case of 'buyer's remorse'

As others have indicated, these *do* run small. I wear a 9.5Medium width. I ordered a 10.5 Medium width. Pros: typical Adidas quality and styling. I used to wear Adidas when a runner years ago. Cons: these shoes are EXTREMELY stiff, lack any sort of 'cush' with regards to the insoles, and the laces belong on a pair of dress shoes; not athletic hikers. I now wish I had bought Skechers, instead.

I have really mixed feelings about these shoes. They are great in most ways, but have a couple of flaws that nearly lead me to return them.First is a minor flaw that actually can be problematic for certain situations: The black-colored shoes show dirt like nobody’s business. If you wear these anywhere other than on pavement, they make you look like you just stepped out of the fields. It is bad enough that I feel self-conscious going into restaurants after going on a hike. Duh, that is exactly when I am feeling ready for some nourishment. The other combination problem is a near fatal flaw for me: The shoe laces are the worst I have ever had. They will not stay tied, even when I double-knot them! This is coupled with a bizarre top pair of too-small eyelets that set ... MoreI have really mixed feelings about these shoes. Plus, the infernal slippery laces are too long, so if I only use one pair of the eyelets, then the laces drag on the ground. If I use both sets of eyelets, then the lacing and tensioning is a pain.Getting and keeping these properly tied is such a chore that I bought new laces off Amazon as a last ditch effort before returning them to REI. Thankfully that seems to have worked, but it seems Adidas botched this very fundamental part of the design.

So after owning four pair of these shoes in 4 years I can say hands down the Adidas terrex shoes are built with quality and last a very long time. I work for FedEx and I am on my feet A LOT! Being a bigger guy and having that firm foundation under my foot is very reassuring. These shoes typically last me 1 year without replacing the insoles. For the first week or so they are kinda stiff and need “broke in” but guarantee they will be your most comfortable shoe you wear for work that stands up against rain, snow, and mud. Great traction too on all surfaces. I will continue to purchase these shoes every year for myself.

Cannot wear for more than 30 min
5 March 2023

I've had really good experiences with Adidas trail running shoes in the past, and I'm sad that this shoe is so incredibly uncomfortable. I've given them quite a bit of time to break in, but I think it's just a poor design. A few things stick out:- The fabric and material on the back that lies against your achilles tendon is rough and stiff. If you wear very low cut socks like me, the rough material will rub your skin raw. I've resorted to taping this part of my ankle to avoid the skin irritation. The stiffness of the material also digs into this area of your ankle.- The laces are slick and thin. After about 30 minutes of walking, the laces end up cinching the base of your ankle quite tight, which is very uncomfortable. I will try different laces, but I shouldn't ... MoreI've had really good experiences with Adidas trail running shoes in the past, and I'm sad that this shoe is so incredibly uncomfortable. I will try different laces, but I shouldn't have to replace laces on a new pair of shoes. When the laces cinch like this, my toes start to go numb and my feet start to get quite warm.- Breathability is questionable.I purchased these online, though I don't think I would have caught these issues trying them on in a store. I would not recommend this shoe at all.

Comfy, for the right foot shape
2 May 2023

This shoe seems like it was made for a very particular shape of foot. It was comfy at times, but my foot would shift in weird places and lose its comfort. After 6 or 7 tries of wearing these shoes, I ultimately passed them on to a friend of mine to see how he liked him. They work great for him. I would say his foot is more "boxy" than my own. Not necessarily wider, but more rectangular in shape. Only thing I can suggest is you try these on in store before deciding to purchase them (like you should really do with any hiking shoe).

Great fit, you only have to follow the size guide
28 February 2023

A few reviews suggested that these shoes were a bit tight. I didn't find that to be the case. As a matter of fact, I usually buy only Adidas, and have been looking for a trekking type shoe to take with me when I travel to Nth Qld later this year. Bingo, got two in one, and a shoe to wear in my everyday use. Furthermore, I use US sizing as a general rule, so all good. They fit perfectly, so no returns necessary. They are well built, great tread and waterproof to boot (pardon the pun). Buy these shoes if you're looking for a sturdy trekking shoe.

Great rubber, padding wears out too quickly
5 June 2023

Great soles, sticky and reasonably durable. But the cushioning gave up way too fast. After maybe 150 miles, I'm basically just walking on the soles, which aren't that thick. I just got home from a trip and the ball of my foot feels bruised from walking in these. What I really want is the soles from these, grafted onto a pair of Oboz Sawtooth Lows.My usage was some casual hikes, some backpacking with 25-40# packs. I weigh about 205# without gear. Total about 150 miles.

Irredeemable

I read all the reviews I could find about these shoes, and thought the negatives were something I could live with. I liked the look of the grip, as my current shoes weren’t holding well on wet granite, which I encounter a lot in the rainy season. I ordered a size up , to compensate for the small- sizing most negative reviews were focused on.They seemed great, until I came to the descent on a granite outcrop, and my toes started really hurting. My feet weren’t really held in place well, and my toes were sliding into the front of the shoe. I tried to tie the laces tighter, but that didn’t help, and there isn’t that extra eye at the top to thread the laces through to hold the feet in place- I tried to use the last eye as that, but my feet still slid forwards.I ... MoreI read all the reviews I could find about these shoes, and thought the negatives were something I could live with. I will try the super feet blue inner soles, which are thinner, as a last resort, but I’m really not that keen to use these on a hike again, given the constant discomfort they caused in previous hikes.I’m really regretting my decision to but these, but I’m on another continent, so returning them isn’t an option.

Narrow Toe Box
29 January 2023

I do not consider myself to have a wide foot, as I have never worn the wide version of any shoe in my life. The toe box on these is just too narrow. The rest of the shoe seems to fit well besides the toe box, so I don’t think going up to wide would work for me, personally.I initially took these out on some shorter trail runs, just to try to break them in. I didn’t think that they were particularly comfortable, but I figured that they just weren’t broken in yet. After a handful of these shorter runs, I took them for an 11-mile trail run. I ended up with runner’s toenail on both pinky toes due to the narrow toe box. I have never had this issue before with any other trail runners. Several months later, my nails are still bruised. I’m shocked that I didn’t lose either nail, to be honest. I should have listened to the other reviews in terms of the comfort issues, as there are several other reviews that mention how uncomfortable these shoes are. Luckily I got these on sale for around $60, but even at $60 I have buyer’s remorse.

Versatile walkin' shoes with a wide forefoot
26 October 2023

These are very comfortable and durable. Great for hiking, but also nice for casual use. The black ones in particular are a good low-key look for city walking, without crazy colors that clash and draw too much attention. My feet have a wide last (the widest part of the foot) that makes a lot of hiking shoes uncomfortable, but these are plenty wide in the forefoot, unusually wide even. Overall, a great walkin' shoe.
