After trying a few other adaptors, this one worked a treat. The VW Passat has diversity antennas, which need phantom power to activate the antenna amplifier. When you change to an aftermarket head unit, the on board amps dont work any more. This unit powers the amplifier and also combines the 2 antennas, so it works on aftermarket head units. A better solution is one that switches between the 2 antennas based on signal strength, however that is not readily available here - only seen one on eBay and it wasn't cheap. This APA66 however works well. I had tried the APA60 first and it did virtually nothing, the APA66 however made crackly radio stations clear. Very happy so far.
