AGV K6 S Helmet - Black - XL

Just finished a 4.5 hour ride with the helmet and here are my observations vs. my Arai Quantum X and Arai XD4. I love both of the Arai's, but I have neck soreness on long rides because of their weight. I was hoping the K6 could help.So are the positives I found with the K6:-weight: this is really a game changer. It feels very light and made a significant difference in how my neck felt after a long ride.-comfort: it is very comfortable for me. No hotspots, and a very soft and plush material.-Noise: this helmet is dramatically quieter than either Arai. It was about 30 minutes into the ride when I realized it was quiet, I wasn't hearing the usual buffeting.-visor: I really like the latch mechanism. Seems easier to operate than the fussy latch on the Quantum X. ... MoreJust finished a 4.5 hour ride with the helmet and here are my observations vs. my Arai Quantum X and Arai XD4. It was about 30 minutes into the ride when I realized it was quiet, I wasn't hearing the usual buffeting.-visor: I really like the latch mechanism. Seems easier to operate than the fussy latch on the Quantum X. About equal to the much simpler latch on the XD4.The negatives:-it's huge: I wear a size ML which comes with the large shell. It is physically a larger shell than either size Arai (size M in the Quantum X, and L in the XD4). When I put it on my wife's first comment was 'Wow, that thing is big!". I wish the ML size came with the medium shell.-ventilation: it was a cold day this morning, about 40 degrees. In this weather I have to keep the vents on the Arai closed or my bald head will freeze. With the K6 I had all the vents open and was not feeling cold at all.-visibilty: shoulder checks on the K6 were more difficult than on either the Quantum X or the XD4. The K6 is so much thicker at the eye port that it blocks your view when trying to look back. For comparison, the XD4and Quantum X are 1.5" thick while the K6 is 2.25" thick. I ran a test when I got home and the rearward visibility on the Quantum X, even with the smaller viewport is better. The rearward view with the XD4 is drastically better. Perhaps with the K6 in MS size this would not be an issue, but you sure feel it with the larger shell size of the ML.In summary I like the K6 because I feel less stiff and sore in my neck and shoulder area after a long ride: the reason why I bought it. However if I could have an XD4 that weighed the same as the K6 it would be my perfect helmet.

I just started riding again and had been using a cheap Zox modular helmet that I bought over 10 years ago (didn’t see much use but yeah I know) Now I know that a helmet costing 5x as much can be 5x as good. Crystal clear visor with great field of view and zero fog, not even with wet hair after a shower, and I haven’t even put on the anti-fog visor yet. Can feel the ventilation. Just soooo much less cumbersome!I was hesitant on the price and considered getting something with the same certifications but just overall less nice/light/feature-rich but shaving off weight and shell size was worth it, considering I’m a medium. To help justify the purchase, I got my wife’s blessing by asking her if my skull was worth $500.I slide my prescription glasses on through the ... MoreI just started riding again and had been using a cheap Zox modular helmet that I bought over 10 years ago (didn’t see much use but yeah I know) Now I know that a helmet costing 5x as much can be 5x as good. Tip: Flexon glasses frames are great for this purpose, no worries about bending.

The AGV K6 I have is light, well made, and feature rich. The new K6S updated model is just as well made and full featured, but is also more aerodynamic and even lighter at under 1300 grams. I can feel the difference when riding in even less buffeting at speed on my naked bike. I also love the interior padding- just the right firm/soft balance, great soft texture, easy to remove and clean all pads, and despite the criticism about the visor, once you get the hang of opening and closing with the front center latch, it is easy and very positive to lock and unlock, and the visors, well a bit pricey due to the attachment mech, are flawless, thick, and provide a great wide angle view. I only wear AGV helmets. They dropped the Med large and small sizing with no issues- I ... MoreThe AGV K6 I have is light, well made, and feature rich. I only wear AGV helmets. They dropped the Med large and small sizing with no issues- I was med small in the K6 and a medium fits perfectly. I also wear an X3000 which I think is the best of the retro helmets for fit, finish and style. However, the new K6S model is a great helmet- quiet, comfortable and fantastically lightweight.
