I had used a set of CAD 7-piece that I bought years ago to mike my drums. They are just fine for what they are but using these AKG Mike's is like pulling up in a caddy instead of a Vega! Easy to set up and of course sound great. Highly recommend

We used these to record last night with semi-pro Tascam & Studiomaster equipment and the playback was amazingly clear, crisp and true to the live sound! I can only imagine how great they'd sound with top-end equipment like the Jensen Twin-Servo preamp, Boulder 500 amplifier and Meyer Sound monitors... (my wish-list equipment)

I use this kit to record drums both during band rehearsals and separately. I was skeptical at first, as the price tag of this set is quite low, but upon opening the case for the first time I quickly saw that all my fears were unfounded: all mics had a nice, heavy feel to them, I could not notice any production flaws... Although it's the first time recording drums for me, setup was a breeze, included clips for snare and tom are sturdy and adjustable, and the recorded drums sounded great even before fine-tuning mic positions and EQ'ing. I haven't had the time to use the mics on other instruments, but I'm sure they will hold up just fine for those applications. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to recording with this mic set for many years to come!
This is a nice set of mics - robust and easy to set up. However, they have one major design flaw; the XLR pin out of the P4 is upside down. If only the XLR was rotated by 180 degrees we could then have the option of using right angled leads and so reduce the overall length of the connected mic. As it is they're fairly long, but plugging in a cable pretty much doubles the length.

Wasn't expecting that but when several drummers come up and ask you what you are using, you know it's giving you what you were looking for.Overall:As a professional drummer with over 40 years of experience touring, recording and producing, I'm pretty picky about what kind of sound I get from my drum mics. I have used almost every conceivable combination of mics on the market and know the characteristics of most of them. There are great road warrior mics that have stood the test of time and touring as well as fantastic, but often times very pricey and fragile, studio mics and lots of things that fall somewhere in between. I play many different styles of music from small jazz combos to a large 20 piece contemporary big band as well as heavy rock bands. I use 5 different sets of drums of various configurations, sizes and sounds, so I need something that can mic them all effectively. When it comes to recording I generally use whatever that particular studio has available as that’s what their engineers are familiar with and I leave it up to their discretion. Most studios I work in have very high end gear. But for live shows, I want to have something strong and consistent because you never know what you are going to run into with house sound systems and often times you need to use your own P.A. so I need a great set of drum mics. My old set was getting a bit beat up so, I was looking for a good set of mics that would do the job but not cost a fortune. I checked out pretty much everything on the market and decided to give these new AKG mics a shot.I have used them for about two month now and they are terrific. They are very live mics and pick up the tonal characteristics of each drum spectacularly. Since using them I have had numerous people from the audiences come up and comment on how great the drums sound, and that doesn’t usually happen. The sound guys I’ve worked with have all praised them and were surprised by how effective all the mics were and how well they integrated together. But, I do have this to say. They are pretty HOT mics, especially the bass drum mic, so you need to warn your sound guy about the before you sound check them. If he has it set to what he’s used to with a bass drum mic, it’s going to distort and he’ll freak out. If he dials it in from scratch, it’s an awesome mic and he’ll love it.I would, and have recommended this set of mics to anyone who wants a great set at a good price. They are well built and road worthy, come in a nice travel case and sound amazing. They really do live up the AKG legacy. Buy ‘em.
I've been in the market for some drum mics to use for live recordings in my band. I almost got a cheaper set from Amazon, but so glad I spent the extra on the AKGs. The mics and clips are sturdy and have a decent quality weight to them. The carry case is a lovely addition! The bass drum mic has a great location for the XLR connection, which means the cable won't get in the way when positioning the mic inside the drum. The tom & snare mics (x4) are weighty and solid, and connect to the decent quality clips well. The overheads (x2) are slimmer than usual mics, but the set contains 2 mic holders to accommodate. All you'll need are a couple of boom stands! They sound crisp and clear. No clipping or dull sound. They're a joy to listen to!
These exceeded our expectations - we wanted to record our band's drums in a small shed. We set up the mics in a few minutes and recorded straight away (no need to fiddle around with mic angles etc.). Most of the work is done post recording. Very happy with the result these mics produced.
I'm quite new to the whole Drum set recording, so didn't know what to get. This set is an excellent starter set by a well known and trusted drum mic company so I knew I was going to get something of quality. Easy to use and set up, although I feel the plastic mic holders for the toms/snare could be a little stronger. The Sound is good. Again, not being able to compare this to some of the higher end mics means I can't say if they're amazing yet!! Case is excellent for carrying them around in and keeping them safe.
