I've used this with my active bass twice at rehearsals and it worked well. I think it might be sucking a bit of low end tone, however I have not yet made direct comparisons using my old lead. I still get a good sound, so I will continue to use it. The transmitter feels a little flimsy, so care must be taken with it. I would prefer it to have a standard 1/4" socket rather than the mini BNC connector, as the supplied lead is a bit to long for me. I'd prefer to use a shorter lead. The BNC connected does however feel very sturdy. My bands guitarist also uses one of these, and his guitar sounds great. A word of warning: these units are single channel only, however there are four different frequencies available. If more then one band member is using these, make sure they ... BE FORE WARNED ON THESE MICROPHONES. I had a set of WMS 40 PRO MINI 2 mic's and a black wire under the wind screen broke. I tried for a long time through e-mails to send this set in to be fixed. Of course I got the run-around and was told that I had to send different e-mails to different people. When I finally reached the right person, Harman/AKG told me that since they are not under warranty and they don't make these mic's anymore that they would NOT fix them. One little broken wire was all I wanted fixed! So if something goes wrong, these are either throw away microphones or you will have to find someone local or on the internet to get your microphone's repaired. The AKG WMS40 system provides a great budget handheld system. Although it operates in the 2.4GHZ spectrum, there was no interference from surrounding WiFi access points and it was much clearer than the UHF based systems from EV that they replaced. This is the second unit I've purchased and it provides clear operation for speech and other general use. The single AA lasts for a while as well, reducing the cost of batteries.

I have been Dee Jaying for 17 years and had all types of wireless mics but these AKGs are very simple out of the box I was going to buy just the one hand held style but since COVID I needed two for toasts and things to keep my mic separate Im glad I bought the pair. Great range one AA battery with at least 6 to 8 hours of life I used them for a solid 6 hours with still a lot of battery life left. Its hard to find a brand name affordable wireless mic set that work good. I would use my shure mics but since the mic drop area has arrived to expensive to replace. The only con I have ic the base unit seams like cheap plastic other than that great mics and great buy Amsdjproductions.net Cleveland DJ
Long story short I needed some affordable (and hopefully reliable) mics quickly. I opted to go with the AKG mics since I had a single unit in the past (which I had the same issue with but not as consistently). Basically whenever I tried to use the mics the RF transmitter signal would like up red and there would be a very loud sharp noise which would not go away. It's very scary when it goes off and comes back out when the speakers are turned up (and possibly can even damage your speakers)I think the issue is some type of electrical interference. I tried using the mic on 4 different occasions and it only worked 3.5 out of 4 times and luckily the .05 time it did was at a wedding (God was just on my side that day) in which I had to plug the unit into a separate speaker ... As mentioned this happened with a previous unit but only very rarely. But I cant chance it with this unit so I'm returning
This microphone is over 20 years old, but the one I got was in superb condition with its own AKG cable. I paid $140 including postage. A sound engineer turned me on to this mike and said that he and a friend, had conducted a "double blind placebo test" with a Shure SM 58 and a Chinese Shure SM 58. He concluded that there was little or no difference between the 2 Shures but that the AKG had won hands down. With this recommendation I plunged in and bought one. Initially I put it through my Fishmans accoustic amp that has one instrument input and one cannon for mike. My initial feeling was although the mike reaked of quality, it sounded a little too trebley when compared to my SM 58 and a sennheisser Evoloution 840. having said that I never adjusted the controls or ... Initially I put it through my Fishmans accoustic amp that has one instrument input and one cannon for mike. My initial feeling was although the mike reaked of quality, it sounded a little too trebley when compared to my SM 58 and a sennheisser Evoloution 840. having said that I never adjusted the controls or used a graphic, such as a P.A. sound desk would have. The next time I saw my Sound engineer. He argued that the SM 58 was more trebley than the D 880 and then set about to prove it through his sound desk. I definitely agreed with him and I have to conclude that with a little more power and EQ the AKG D 880 really comes in to its own. Its funny upon purchasing this Mike the seller said that this mike would be great for miking up instruments and backing vocals, The same was said on the Sennheisser web page for the Evoloution 840. I now have 3 vocal mikes that I take to gigs and whatever is appropriate for the venue, at point of sound check, is the one I use. This may seem a fuss for some people, but when you consider how many guitarists change guitars between sets, also the plethora of different pick-up configurations. We singers have it easy by comparison. My Sound guy also factors in Male or Female into choice of Microphone, His reasoning is if you have a natrually thin or trebley voice you should compensate with a mike that has more mids or bottom end, conversley if you have a booming, bassier voice a mike with comparative treble properties may be just the ticket [TRY THEM]! Just one last thing there's a lot to be said for omni-directional on the SM 58, for example if your an instrument player you will doubtless have a boom stand pointing at your mouth, so this is not an issue. But if you drop your elbow with a hand held mike, as a lead Singer might, you will not like the effect of the volume dropping out as in the case of my senheisser which has more of a funnel shaped range. Im not sure what the AKG D 880 is in this regards, I still have to test it. Lastly My Sound guy also had an AKG D 770 and he said this was a great instrument mike [ in other words mike up amplification ] and back up vocal ! I hope all this helps somebody in their purchase choice. But remember CHOICE IS GOOD. God Bless You. Nick
Like many, I was hesitant about purchasing this mic. Through years of live sound, studio work, DJing, karaoke, public address I've used what feels like the majority of mics. I wouldn't use this for live sound mission critical vocals without extreme testing on range and interference, with a bit of EQ tweaking, and only in specific circumstances where handling is kept to a minimum. Having been very careful with that, I will say that I've now used this for DJ, emceeing, karaoke, wedding, and reception work with basically no issues! It has yet to cut out or be subject to interference, though I haven't specifically TRIED to push it to it's limits yet. It is light. If you need a heavier mic, minimal handling noise, and studio reference.. spend more on a mic suited for that application. The only real annoyances I have with this mic (and they are minimal) are:1.It has a strange tapered grip that thins to the base more than you'd expect from most mics.2.I don't care for the off/mute/on switch style. It's a slider with the mute or mid position being a bit tough to nail without a great deal of practice. At this price point, when the switch fails I'll keep using it and leave it all to the fader/mute on the mixer end. It has at least been virtually silent as I fumble through the positions.3.I prefer to have every piece of gear I can hooked up with balanced XLR connections. Using TRS which this advertises and all the mixers or interfaces I've used it on also tout balanced input on their line 1/4"sSummary: Darn pleased with this mic. If you aren't doing high price work for discerning audiences, save some money and give it a shot. If you are... we both know you can afford to be looking in a higher price range and that you didn't make it this far into my review anyway.
First off, let me say this is an amazing value for what you are getting. A decent wireless kit for this price is indeed a steal...unfortunately, there are some trade offs tho...the first one being on tone. Your instrument cable natively impedes certain high end frequencies adding a 'character' to your overall tone. Your un-impeded tone usually is a good bit brighter...and it is evident with this unit. I'm a bass player and as soon as I plugged this in, highs came out of nowhere! Some may not mind this, but it was a no go for me for this reason alone. Another thing I didn't care for were the additional gain stages (volume knobs at the body pack & receiver) if you aren't careful & set them correctly, you can easily distort your signal at very low volumes & it may take ... Another thing I didn't care for were the additional gain stages (volume knobs at the body pack & receiver) if you aren't careful & set them correctly, you can easily distort your signal at very low volumes & it may take you awhile before you figure out that it's cause your body pack volume is cranked and needs to be at 3'oclock instead of 10. Lastly, I wasn't a fan of the mini xlr connector to 1/4 inch. It seems to me that this was a wireless mic system that they just added an instrument cable to.Again, if saving money is your goal, this hard to beat cause it does do what it claims, but if you care at all about your tone, you'd be better served by the likes of a Line 6 G30, which is what I bought after returning this
Like many guitar players, cords are a nuisance and can be distracting on stage. Twice I almost pulled my amp off the speaker cab due to tripping on the cord, so I thought it was time to go wireless. I play Bass, but the guitar player in our band has tried quite a few wireless systems and settled on a $400+ Shure system and was quite satisfied with it. Not wanting to spend that much I went for this AKG wireless due to mostly positive reviews. I've had this unit for a couple of months and have maybe 10 gigs on it so far. When I first received this unit, I plugged it in and did a sound comparison through headphones swapping between the wireless and cord... I could not detect any difference. When I first received this unit, I plugged it in and did a sound comparison through headphones swapping between the wireless and cord... I could not detect any difference. I then tried the wireless walking around my house and on occasion heard a slight pop and scratchy sound, almost like a weak connection. After fiddling with the mini XLR connector on the transmitter I noticed the spring strain relief on the cord was microphonic. Tapping it produced the popping sound and rubbing it gave the scratchy sound. Now I already had planned on obtaining an extra cord that goes from guitar to transmitter as a back-up, so I soldered a new one up, taped the cord with a loop at the transmitter and that has eliminated the problem so far. Range is good, up to 100ft., but I found after 40 ft. or so the delay was difficult to keep time. I would have given 5 stars, but due to the cord issue I'm giving it 4.
I had purchased this AKG SR40 Mini unit to replace an old Line 6 X2 wireless system that died on me after many years. I am in a local cover band and wireless just makes playing so much more fun plus being free of cords is such a bonus. I didn't have much money but I missed the freedom. So I did a lot of research to try to squeeze a budget friendly option, and at $84 it was one of the most affordable. The videos on YouTube were positive, most of the user reviews were decent too, a forum post was positive, and AKG is a decent brand, so I gave it a shot. It was supposed to be able to go 100 ft without signal loss, one guy in a video went on different floors of a house, it has great features like volume controls on both sides, 30 hours on a battery, which is awesome. For an inexpensive unit, it really was touted. The only problem was when I tried to use it, there was massive white noise whenever I turned my body. It didn't matter if I was 3 feet or 15 feet, the issue was there and constant. Plus, indoor or out, I couldn't get consistent signal more than 25 feet away, as the signal dropped out and disappeared. Tone loss was noticeable throughout- it didn't matter if I used my expensive active Music Man bass, a passive bass or a Strat- it ranged from scraggly/noisy to nobottom end. I called AKG for customer support and had an excellent experience there- they were responsive to my concerns. Can't complain there. It was diagnosed that I live in an area with a lot of RF interference. I live right outside a city in the northeast USA, so apparently there are a lot of people, stations and others using the bandwidth. He felt that was the issue, which I do believe. Since there is only one channel, there wasn't another option to find a clear transmitting signal. I figure if you are in a more rural situation, you may get better performance than I experienced, but that is only a supposition. So the bottom line was I got the refund and had to pony up another $80 to get a new Line 6- which does rock! You try to cut corners, but you do get what you pay for.
