I purchased my first 2 Akubras in Australia, the first one almost 30 years ago. Unfortunately I never worn them. So a few ago I found David Morgan on a website and visited them, and of course walked out with a Coober Peddy. There customer service and collect on hand is awesome. Honestly I didn't wear it that much either. Now that I'm almost 50 and sun protection for top of my head has become more of an issue. For some time now I have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on a Cattleman and finally did! It fits just as their YouTube video suggests and got their hat stretcher just in case it shrinks a bit. This is now my go to hat for everything. They are truly a class act and I greatly appreciate them.I wish folks wore hats like this as much as they do down under.

Disappointed at the weight and thickness of the felt.

I use this as a casual/dress hat...whatever the mood says. I have a Snowy River and a Coober Pedy. Compared to those hats the weight of the felt is much thinner. It's allmost like you are picking up a cardboard hat. I don't like that and I'll make sure to check the weight before buying another Akubra hat. As well, nothing in the descsriptions of any of the hats tells you the "X" rating. I'd guess this is a 1 X or a 2X...not very thick. It just doesn't feel like a quality hat. It feels like it will begin to deteriorate in a short time compared to my other 2 Akuras.

Great hat. Unlined coming soon?

This is a great hat. Well made and true to size. It handles water/rain very well and holds its size even after getting wet. Like all fur hats, this will shrink a bit if you leave it in the heat, but a had sizer returns it to normal in a moment.I know I shouldn't leave it in my car, but that's where it lives (hanging on the back of the seat), so it will shrink a bit, but like I said, quickly returns to normal.I'd love to see this hat available in the unlined version, like how they sell it in Australia, but I don't know if there's a market for it here.Anyway, great hat, good coverage, good sun protection and protection from fly line/hooks.

I would buy this hat again but not from DM.
22 July 2020

I wanted to exchange my cattleman hat for a smaller size. The problem was I recycled the packaging material before I decided to exchange it for a smaller size. I wanted to use the packaging from the new hat to pack up the old hat. I called customer service and talked to Linda, she knew what I wanted to do. She then transferred me to another gentleman who stated our store policy prevents us from doing this and thus wanted to charge me another $9 shipping to replace the hat. DM can say what they want but this is an exchange plain and simple. My understanding is exchanges are free. I was even willing to prepay for the hat and shipping. They could then credit me the cost of the shipping. However, due to the inflexibility of store personal and store "policy" DM has ... MoreI wanted to exchange my cattleman hat for a smaller size. I would definitely purchase this hat again. High quality.

This is my second Akruba Cattleman's hat. My first was a gift 20 years ago. I still have it. This Cattleman's will be my dress hat. It has formed to my head as good as my custom made hat at 1/4 the price. High quality at a good price for the Akubra Cattleman. I am between a 58 and 59. However, wearing the hat 1 day has formed to my head. Nor a strong wind or a fast horse, I will not lose my hat.

I would definitely recommend this hat!

I couldn't be any happier I love my new hat. I am an over the road truck driver and I can wear this new hat all day without any problems. When I ordered it I measured at 22 1/2 so I put down 23 and was so happy to find out it fit so well. I ordered my hat on Wednesday and it arrived Monday afternoon.

So good I bought it twice

This is a durable and practical workhorse of a hat which also looks sharp enough to wear almost anywhere. The brim is protective against the sun and rain without blocking your view. Akubra's leather sweatbands are by far the most comfortable I've worn. The first thing I do upon receiving one is carefully remove the liner; for me this improves the breathability and makes it nicer to handle and wear overall. The crown gives this hat a strong, utilitarian appearance without being a statement piece. It is a nice break from the generic cowboy hats that are common where I live. I like neutral shades for a hat and the grey looks good with everything, especially in winter. I also have one in sand for warmer months and it stays noticeably cooler under the hot sun. The finest hat I've ever worn
4 November 2023

The Akubra Cattleman came packaged very well, with no chance of getting damaged. It shipped faster than expected, especially from across the country. The fit was spot on and the included foam pads were a nice touch, but I didn't need them. This hat replaced a Henschel Walker leather hat which I wore for a few years, but I couldn't get the stench out of it. This is my first Akubra hat and now I understand all the hype. It is extremely well made and lightweight. It fit a bit snug at first, but formed to my head within a few days. I expect it to last for years and based on all the great reviews, I'm sure it will. Because it's such a nice hat, I was apprehensive about wearing it in the woods where I spend a lot of my time, but that's what it's made for. Top quality hat!
24 May 2023

I'm 70 and have worn western styled hats all my life. This is my first Akubra and I am totally amazed at the great quality! It is a supremely well made hat. I will probably be ordering another in a different color. I was also impressed by the excellent quick service from David Morgan. I had my hat in two days!

could not have a better hat

I knew when I ordered this hat it was going to be good. I owned a similar hat 20 years ago, that I grew out of. it is still in the same shape as when I bought it. So when I brought this hat with me for fishing in the northern sweden territory, I was not disappointed. The weather was horrible, but the hat kept me covered through rain and wind. The only thing I regret is that I did not buy a chin strap and maybe one size smaller as the wind was strong enough to kick it off my head. I solved the problem with a temporary shoestring but I will replace this with a real chin strap once I get home. The softness in the material made it feel like it was part of me. The rain just rinsed off the hat without socking it. I am already thinking of buying one of the other models ... MoreI knew when I ordered this hat it was going to be good.
