I just wore these shoes to a week-long vacation in California, with significant walking days at both Disneyland parks. It's a generally comfortable shoe, though I noticed some mild discomfort while standing in longer lines. But the walking itself was great and as a casual day-to-day shoe it definitely has earned a spot in my rotation. But the near-fatal flaw is the over-designed rubber heel tag that this shoe comes with. I don't know how this thing made it through quality testing, but any movement that was more than a casual stride that caused my toes to dip even a little--be it walking down stairs, jogging, or just stretching my foot--resulted in the tough rubber jabbing my achilles heel in an extremely uncomfortable manner.I almost returned the shoes, but then ... MoreI just wore these shoes to a week-long vacation in California, with significant walking days at both Disneyland parks. Problem solved. But the fact this design flaw made it into an Allbirds shoe (a brand I usually associate with simple, no-nonsense, ultra-comfortable designs) has me feeling a bit leery of any future purchases.

AllBirds have been my go-to shoes for quite some time, due to the comfort. With extensive travel, and time on my feet, they have generally been great. But these Tree Pipers are different. They run very small, fabric feels like plastic, and don't seem to stretch at all. The shape of the shoe digs into my heel and achilles, and I was limping after 30 minutes of wearing them.I've taken out the inner soles to try to make them more comfortable, but it kinda defeats the purpose. Laces are also very short, barely long enough to make a knot. Not sure if this only as I wear size 14.In hopes that the shoes would wear in little and get more comfortable, I kept wearing them, but found myself taking them off as often as possible to give my feet a rest. So far I’m really enjoying my Tree Pipers! My podiatrist wanted me to stop wearing Vans and Converse (which is all I’ve worn for several years now), but I didn’t want to have to wear tennis shoes around everywhere because that’s not my style at all. The Tree Pipers aren’t exactly the most supportive shoes, but they do still provide a good bit more support than Vans or Converse and they’re far more comfortable. I wouldn’t wear them if I was planning to do any more walking than, say, going out shopping / to the mall for a day, but they’re definitely comfortable for “every day” use. I like how lightweight they are and I love how easily they can go with almost any outfit. The tab looks nice but it can really dig into the back of your leg if you wear ankle socks or no-shows, let alone wearing them with no socks at all (not that I ever plan on doing that). This can be helped by wearing longer socks, but still I wish the tab was something softer. Plastic tab aside though, I really am digging my Tree Pipers and they’ve given me something fashionable that my podiatrist can at least not COMPLETELY yell at me for! Would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a comfortable, adaptable every day shoe—just make sure you wear longer socks!

I was looking for something with a similar look to the Converse Chuck Taylors but that didn't leave my feet sore and sweaty.I went with the tree pipers over the wool pipers because I wanted something more breathable for summer. Worked out perfectly. The tree material is light and breathable but still feels durable after a few months.I also have an older pair of tree runners. Both styles are very comfortable, but the tree pipers hold my feet in place better than the runners did. And the new soles have better grip that doesn't wear down as quickly in everyday use.The new soles are still thin. I like that, but it did take a few days for my feet to adjust.
I could not be happier with my purchase. This is my second pair of Allbirds and they are just as comfy as the slip ons I bought last Spring. Light, great support and love the color. I've even had a few compliments from coworkers and stangers! Now for the bad news, and I do hope someone from Allbirds reads this review. YOU have a PR problem! In last weekend's Wall Street Journal there was a cover story in the Off Duty section entitled, "Am I Too Old for this Now?" Basically a story about what is and is not appropriate to wear when you are over 60. There is a quote in the article from a personal stylist named Cassandra Sethi, based in LA, that says the following: "OLDER GUYS WEARING ALLBIRDS SNEAKERS WITH JEANS, KHAKIS OR MORE FORMAL PANTS IS A FAUX PAS. TO BE HONEST, DON'T WEAR THEM AT ALL - NO MATTER WHAT YOU PAIR THEM WITH, THEY WON'T LOOK GOOD". I am beyond angry and frankly am mortified by this and I would hope the folks at Allbirds would be as well. I am over 60 and I admit I know I am not your target market, but I LOVE your product. This Ms. Sethi has disrespected all of us older consumers who enjoy your product and I promised my wife I would not use any profanity in this review! :)
Originally bought size 11, but had to exchange for size 12 (thank you for that), because I didn't realize that these shoes didn't come in wide width. The size 12 are ok if I don't wear socks, so the shoes are restricted to strictly casual wear. If I were to wear socks, the size 12 is still be too narrow. I noticed that one of your inserts in the shoe says "so soft, you can wear sockless." I think the reference to "softness" is a bit of an exaggeration. Maybe, over time, my feet will become more accustomed to them. We'll see if that happens. I wouldn't rate them higher than ok, and definitely would not buy another pair. You ask for my opinion, now you have it.
Really wanted to like these because I love the look, but as soon as I put them on, and I really do mean immediately, the left one started hurting my ankle, right on my Achilles tendon. I thought maybe I just needed to walk in them for a while and it’ll ease up but it actually got worse with time. Loosening the left one didn’t help, and I even tried yanking on the back of it to see if I could soften the back lip that caused my ankle to hurt so much but nothing helped. Meanwhile the right one was fine! When I took the left shoe off I saw and felt that it literally left a physical bump and divot where the lip of the shoe pressed on my Achilles tendon. Really painful, not like the usual irritation or chafing you can get with new shoes but like actual stabbing pain.So I ... MoreReally wanted to like these because I love the look, but as soon as I put them on, and I really do mean immediately, the left one started hurting my ankle, right on my Achilles tendon. Really painful, not like the usual irritation or chafing you can get with new shoes but like actual stabbing pain.So I can’t wear these. Big bummer, because if both shoes fit like the right one did I’d have no real issue with them. But I can’t recommend a pair of shoes when one of them for some reason is impossible to wear without pain. For the record, my feet are normal— I’ve never had this issue with any other shoe before, and when I went back to my Atoms that I’ve been wearing for a while things were back to normal. I’m giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because like I said, they do look nice, and I guess an extra star is fair when one of shoes DID fit.
Great light and comfy shoes for every occasion. I recently took them on a big euro trip and they were my favorite pair to walk around cities all day everyday. I have the moonlight colour and will definitely order another pair in a different colour. I like this model because it is a bit more dressed up than the tree runner (which I love too). This model definitely looks dressier and you can pull it off in more fancy occasions.

The 11 in the Wool Runners are just right but in the Piper, I would consider a 12, and did that when ordering my 2nd pair of Pipers.Since this online order, I've been primarily shopping in store and get better service (shout out to the Pasadena and La Jolla UTC locations). This is not to deter others from ordering online, but this was my least favorite experience by far out of all my 5 star Allbirds experiences and seems hit or miss. Overall I really like the shoes. With one exception I will explain, they fit really well. They are so light I hardly know I am wearing them. They are very comfortable. That said, I seem to be getting a hot spot on the outside of the ball of my right. Foot. I think that is because I have such wide feet and there is some friction at that spot due to the shape of my foot. Just after receiving them, I wore them on a 10 day ocean cruise and I’m an avid walker so they really got quite a workout. So my answer to the question “How Do They Fit” is that they seem to fit quite well except for the possible hot spot I think that is forming. Therefore I really can’t completely answer that question yet. If that turns into a blister or some other issue, I will be returning them. If ... MoreOverall I really like the shoes.
