I bought this boot without checking the reviews, and after about 7 miles of wear I started to get some pain on the outside of my right ankle. It almost seemed like the stitching was too tight on the interior seam there. So I changed socks (right foot to left foot) and kept going. The next day I did about 8 miles with a pair of really thick socks and the laces a little loose to start. I also got the boots pretty damp/wet to start. I had to stop a couple times and re adjust the boot and sock. After that they feel fully broken in, and by far the most comfortable boot I have ever hiked in. I have been hiking as a guide for 30 plus years. I remember when all good boots came with a long, and often very uncomfortable break in period. I am not saying that this isn't a design flaw in the boot, it probably is, but if they hold up for another 80 plus miles I will gladly buy another pair, and go through the break in process if necessary. Its thats comfy. The last heavy pack trip I did my feet have never been so pain free. I got done and couldn't believe it. No aches, no hot spots, no soreness, nothing. Really impressive. So, maybe you will have an ankle issue? Maybe it will go away pretty quickly if you take care of it? Maybe you will buy different boots. The last thing I will say is this. I buy, and completely wear out a lot of boots every year. I have never owned a pair that lasted for more than 90 miles of wet heavy packing, that didn't have some break in issues.

These are the best hiking, trail, tactical boots I've ever owned. These have great stability, structure and super comfortable. I've had them for 3 weeks and get the early impression that they will be durable for the long term.

I was super excited to get the new Olympis 6 Trail as I have feet issues that cause a lot of pain when backpacking, which zero drop shoes remedy. I also was hoping that the peeling sole issues from the previous model was fixed as I hike in the SW mtns. So, after a few hikes trying to break in the leather on these I can report that the way the upper boot creases at the forefoot bend (just above big joint) is painful!!! I am not sure if it is the leather or the new Goretex liner (which feels dangerously thin BTW) but it is not good! Perhaps this will break in further, but as I leave for a trip to the Southern San Juans, I am concerned... Did the folks at Altra actual walk around in these for more than a minute??? As is, I doubt that anyone would find these to be ... MoreI was super excited to get the new Olympis 6 Trail as I have feet issues that cause a lot of pain when backpacking, which zero drop shoes remedy. As is, I doubt that anyone would find these to be comfortable. This is a shame as the boot has a unique stiffness in the midsole for the amount of cushion which in theory makes it uniquely suitable for backpacking (You can still feel a bunch of pointy rocks undergoot BTW). Also, come on Altra could you give us a third color? These colors aren't as good as the previous model.

Man, I don't know what people are talking about the boot being uncomfortable. I'm on a k9 unit and I wanted a hiking boot for tracking in the woods and I'm buying in to the whole anatomical boot shape thing. It's sooooo much more comfortable on my foot than a salomon or a lowa. I had the keen nxis evo and those are perfect as well but I wear body armor and a pack for the dogs rehab and the cushion on the olympus helps keeping my feet in service. Thank you Altra for making the all black version. I never had the 4 or the 5 but the health features this has are what I'm looking for and the comfort is there.
I bought these for duty boots and couldn't be happier. They are super light, very supportive and comfortable. I'm going to order another pair. My only gripe is that they are not a true black, more of a dark grey. I wish Altra made an actual black version.
I'm a mail carrier that walks between 10-15 miles daily and these shoes changed my life. These boots allow my toes to splay and are super comfortable even in 100F+ heat. I've tried many shoes and these are pretty much perfect in every way. I also wanted a mid top to protect my ankles from getting banged up.I tried Hoka and when my feet started to swell from the long distance I walk, I nearly lost a toenail. This was my first altra shoe and the shape makes so much sense for my situation. I love them so much that I bought a second pair.
These boots are amazing but they become annoyingly squeaky after a few weeks. I don't understand why there wasn't any quality control testing. These could've been the best hiking boots ever but failed.
Took these backpacking in the White Mountains, NH. They are perfection! Supportive, agile, comfortable, strong waterproofing! I've owned many Altra models for trail running and have taken many backpacking. These are the best!
Same exact issues as the Olympus 5s. The crease between the upper and the front panel of the shoe digs into the ankle and is painful when stepping. People have been talking about the pinching at the ankle for over a year on the 5s. How have they not fixed this on the 6s!!??
Just avoid the entire line. While the shoe fits well when stationary, movement creates issues. The shoe is uncomfortable around the ankle and squeaks louder than cicadas at the height of summer. There is a disconnect between the construction and design folks, and it apparently there is more focus on expanding the line instead of fixing the problems. I might try one last iteration, but I miss the threes and maybe even the fours.
