Hike in any weather with the Altra Olympus 5 Mid GTX. The Altra Olympus 5 Mid GTX has a GORE-TEX upper that is waterproof, windproof and durable to keep your feet dry, no matter the weather. A mid-height collar gives your ankles extra support and comfort, so you can stay on the trails longer. Altrarsquos premium EGOtrade MAX midsole foam gives you light and luxurious performance with a little extra bounce and durability. The Olympus is built with Altrarsquos Original FootShapetrade Fit, which is the most voluminous of Altrarsquos shoes. It also has their signature wide toe box so your toes can splay naturally. Like all Altra shoes, the Olympus has a Balanced Cushionedtrade platform that positions your heel and forefoot at equal distances from the ground (or zero heel-to-toe drop), which encourages better alignment and form. Altra redesigned the outsole to make it even easier to run on uneven terrain. The Olympus 5 Mid GTX has the grip and traction to take on anything thanks to Vibramreg Megagriptrade, which is a durable and sticky high-performance rubber that works great on both wet and dry surfaces. The Altra Olympus 5 Mid GTX will have you hiking in comfort all day long.

I have a pair of lone Peaks and love them, they were the kind of shoe you get out of the box and can wear for miles without “breaking” them in however I tend to get bursitis in my knee and really needed some cushioning. I decided to try these… the right shoe feels good right out of the box but the left one where everyone is talking about the seam, digs right into my ankle bone. After the next 6 weeks of hiking trips I have planned I may change my review stars but even if it can be made comfortable through an alternate tying method it is a design flaw.. I was able to tie it just by switching the loops from going under to over and we’ll see how the feels later but Altra should adjust the way the seam is sewn in future models. I’m also going to say I could care less about Gortex I would actually prefer to not have a Gortex shoe, but this was the only boot with the level of cushion I was needing by Altra. I’m sort of wondering if the lone peaks feel seamless because they don’t have the different types of fabrics (Gortex)bulking together at the seams. If you can adjust the strings to feel comfortable though and your primary concern for a shoe is cushion these are very cushioned and comfortable in that sense!

I was worried about sizing since many reviewers commented on this being too small. I went ahead and ordered my normal Altra size anyway (7.) I've found the Lone Peak's too roomy in a size 7, but knowing this has a Gore-Tex liner and the additional support of the high ankle, I went for it. In fact it does still feel ever so slightly too roomy (which makes me think whoever thinks this is too small is simply ordering one size too small), but doable with the extra ankle support and knowing my feet will be swelling a lot when used for their intended purpose. They are comfortable as heck-- I didn't like the underfoot feel in the original Olympus, but these feel great underfoot.I wish they were slightly lower to the ground, but I don't feel as weirdly high/off-balance ... MoreI was worried about sizing since many reviewers commented on this being too small. Excited to see how they perform on the trail.

Love the toe box width - allows my toes to spread naturally. Appreciate the additional cushion vs the Lone Peaks which I've worn for years (multiple seasons/models) but rocky trails had me bruised until these. These are perfect--enough stability to not create knee instability (as some former models by Altra created when they were too spongey). I purchased the mids as the regular height Olympus allow my heels to step out every step--annoying but not total deal breakers if I really tighten down the laces--the mids keep my heels in place and snug + comfortable. Dreamy shoes for hiking and trail running. Love the color options--thanks for realizing women don't always want pastels, periwinkle, pinks etc. We want awesome colors that the men normally get instead. Fabulous, blissfully comfortable!
13 January 2023

These are fabulous, though they come up a bit small, and I needed to go half a size bigger compared with the Olympus Via trainers. The half size bigger is perfect, and still fits perfectly on the heel. I have dreadful feet with metatarsalgia and, as with the trainers, I wear my 3/4-length orthotics on top of the Altra insole. Bliss! With these, I can go for a walk without being in pain. Altra, please don't ever stop making these, and keep the design the same. Please could you make them in a quiet dark brown? [P.S. I did try the Olympus 5 Hike Low Gortex, but there is something weird about the fit. One size was too tight, yet the half size up from this--which was the same size as my beloved Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX which fit so perfectly--was 'slippy' in the heel. I would buy again IF a couple adjustments are made
19 July 2022

While I typically wear a 9, I purchased the 9.5 so I could add my own footbeds. I should have ordered the 9s. I would say the shoe is a quarter size too big. I adjusted by wearing thick socks. I own about 5 pair of Lone Peaks and found that sometimes 9 work, and other times I need 9.5!I backpacked in them carrying a pretty heavy pack across varied terrain covering 8 - 15 miles a day. My feet felt pretty good. Two suggestions: (1) Longer shoe strings (and, provide two pair) and, (2) Just inside the shoe at the ankle are what feels like hard plastic to hold the tongue to the shoe. These were digging into my ankles. I cut some thick moleskin and stuck it over the areas and that helped a bit. Thicker socks is what did the trick. However, thick socks don't cut it when hiking in hot weather.I purchased the sand and like the color. I was in mud/dirt and the shoes still look great (mud and dirt washed right off). If I could afford, I would order a second pair in size 9 of the other color! I was looking for a durable hiking boot by Altra because of wide footbed and the shoe is not stiff (I have a Morton's neuroma). This shoe is definitely more durable than the Lone Peaks and provided the support I needed across the varied terrain (Teton Crest Trail, to be specific).

Just make the lone peak in goretex!

Was stoked to finally have dry feet! But was very dissappointed.Pros: waterproof goretext. Finally. Great traction.Cons: ankle is too small; there is a rub on the ankle; the cushion is over the top and NOT helpful for hiking over varying terrain, keep it moderate otherwise you can't tell where your feet are in relation to the ground. Also the back tab just seems to be there to catch your other foot by the metal eyelets. The metal eyelets themselves are so tight it's difficult to get the shoes laced and unlaced. There is also a problem with the way the laces run - there's a large area over the top of the foot with no eyelets leaving a gap in security for your foot. These boots pose a serious hazard to on and off trail use.Everyone loves the Lone Peaks but they ... MoreWas stoked to finally have dry feet! But was very dissappointed.Pros: waterproof goretext. I absolutely wanted to love these. So much in fact, that after the first pair came to me with a defectively sewn tongue, I ordered a second pair in hopes that it was just a fluke. No such luck =( The second pair has the same problem and then some. The area of intersection where the side of the gusseted tongue is sewn into the heel cuff is lumpy and presses hard into the ankle when tied. Not like you feel it a little, but like OW, that hurts, and it left an indention in my skin - even with a sock. Both pairs have this problem.Another major issue is that the left and right shoe have so many discrepancies! Wish I could post pics!!1. Ankle padding is clearly thicker on the left shoe.2. Sharp pinching point along the ankle
12 February 2023

I purchased these because I run trail in Olympus and love them. I was looking for a light weight hiking shoe for fast packing trips. The shoe fits true to size and width. The shoe fits as I hoped, like the Olympus trail shoe. The main problem I experienced was comfort at the mid section -on the inside at points where the tongue is stitched into the shoe. A sharp pinching point occurred on both sides and on both shoes. I tried tying the shoe's differently- loose, tight, adjusting the position of the tongue- but nothing helped. After three days on the Colorado Trail, I hard to start adding mole skin to the sore spots, which I've never done with any other shoe that I've hiked, run, or raced in. So much good but not perfect

I use these for long distance walking. In terms of comfort great, the wide footbox means I never get cramps in my feet or toes. The grip on stone is amazing, I feel like a mountain goat coming down those annoying downsloped stone stairs that seem to permeate british walking trails. They are great in the snow with trax; my feet stay warm too, not sure if it's just the thickness of the sole insulating and keeping my feet out of the cold stuff or the outer and inner materials but it's great. Generally a comfortable walk on solid or grippy surfaces.Where I do struggle with them is in heavy mud; they are so thick soled you lose 'ground feel' and its hard to explain but on top of the normal slipping I am not quite sure where my feet are with these boots. For the same reason they are not great for situations where you need to go up or down rocky areas with small/tight footholds. The other issue, the pull up loop (least I'm assuming that's what it's supposed to be), wth? It is completely useless and I absolutely hate the process of getting these boots on as it's a battle everytime.Overall super comfy and great for simple trails but I would revert to a more traditional hiking boot where the conditions are questionable and there may be some scrambling involved.P.S I had to size up on these from a EU39 to an EU40

Women's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX
8 November 2022

The sample that I received was the Altra Running Women's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX hiking shoes. This product was (mostly, see third paragraph) better than other hiking boots I have tried because they were more like sneakers than boots, as in they aren't so clunky and heavy. I feel like they are more breathable than traditional hiking boots, therefore my feet don't get so sweaty, which I like, but they also still stay dry which is a plus. When I wear lower cut sneakers for hiking sometimes on rainy days mud gets in my shoes, so the higher cut of these is great. The shoes have great cushioning and are shaped to fit your feet, so they were great for my plantar fasciitis, so I would say a benefit to owning these shoes is that I can go hiking for hours and my heel doesn't ... MoreThe sample that I received was the Altra Running Women's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX hiking shoes. The shoes have great cushioning and are shaped to fit your feet, so they were great for my plantar fasciitis, so I would say a benefit to owning these shoes is that I can go hiking for hours and my heel doesn't hurt, which I have not found with traditional hiking boots. Usually, no matter how supportive the boots are, my heel pain still flares up, but I didn't experience that with these shoes. The only thing I didn't love about wearing these shoes is there is sort of a "nub" near where the tongue meets the shoe that rubs on my ankle bones and that was not too comfortable. I think if the manufacturer made the shoe so they weren't so rigid in that area they would be perfect. For this reason alone, I don't think I would purchase this product. I might recommend this product to my friends and family if the retail price wasn't so high. I couldn't recommend they buy them for that price with the possibility of the design flaw I mentioned above bothering their feet as much as they did mine. I think I would tell anyone looking to buy these shoes that they are great shoes, but definitely try them on in a store and walk around a bit to make sure the rigid area near the tongue doesn't bother their ankles.
