Years ago I bought the Paradigm 2 which, even though my daughter said that it looked like I had Ronald McDonald shoes on, felt great! My toes had lots of room to spread out. Recently my podiatrist said that I needed to wear sneakers all day in order to help with my pronating. I went to Fleet Feet for another pair of Paradigm sneakers even though some reviewers wrote about a smaller toe box. I ended up having to order the shoes and, once they arrived, I found that the toe box was, indeed, tighter all around. If you look closely at the web page description of the shoe it shows an image of this toe box being the "standard" toe box, not the "original" toe box. This is a running shoe - if you're using them for all day every day wear they might not be for you.I bought these after being fitted at a running store. I have bunions on both feet and found that as I increased my mileage my feet hurt terribly after every run. The wide toe box is a game changer. I've been wearing these for 6 months or so and they've been great. I've never felt any pain in my feet or joints, and my speed has improved significantly since I'm not fighting off injuries. I've taken them on trails, road and everyday city walks and they've held up well, no tears on the fabric. I'm currently based in Argentina and I'm already planning on stocking up on pairs the next time I visit the US.I would love a dark colored panel/sole so hide dirt, but I like the ... MoreThis is a running shoe - if you're using them for all day every day wear they might not be for you.I bought these after being fitted at a running store. These are my go-to shoes which means standing in a classroom, sitting at my desk, walking my dog 4 miles per day and anything else that comes my way. I need stability shoes that accommodate orthotics and these work great. All of this said, I have two major complaints. The soles wear out QUICKLY. Some might wear them longer than I do but for me, the wear on the outsides adds to the roll the orthotics provide-problem. I do not recommend these for road runners. You will find yourself replacing three times faster than other shoes. And the tongue!! It's been a common complaint in reviews but I will say it again....it is too narrow. Even if the edge of the tongue didn't run up against my bunion repair incision, they would still be too narrow. So why a 4 out of 5? I love ... MoreThese are my go-to shoes which means standing in a classroom, sitting at my desk, walking my dog 4 miles per day and anything else that comes my way. I have dealt with a nerve issue in my left foot for sometime. These shoes allow me to run faster and longer. I still get the occasional flareup during my run. However, it is nowhere near like it was with other brands of shoes. I sincerely hope that the Shoemaker does not change the functionality and fit of this shoe. So many times with each revision... Things can change with a shoe. This is particularly frustrating for those of us with foot/feet challenges. While re-lacing my shoe appropriately, the plastic tab came off of the end of the lace. For spending over $100 on a pair of shoes, I expect it not to be broken before I wear it.I would love to see a wide shoe available in the Paradigm- without compromising the integrity/structure of the current shoe.
My 4.5 Paradigms wore out in the heels almost immediately. Had to redo the lacing on them for them to be wide enough in the front of the shoe. Ordered a pair of Paradigm 6 women's and boy are they expensive. Hoping that they work better than the 4.5's. The original Paradigms I had were the standard width. They were wonderful. I wore them out of the store with no concerns, but the heel wore out quickly. You quit offering the standard width some time ago. Why do you advertise a wide toe box and at the same time narrow the footbed? My left shoe has a hole where the big toe is as well as my little toe. It would seem when a person is only walking that they would last longer than if you were running in them. I hope when I get the the Paradigm 6's they work. These are the only shoes I can find that work for my feet. I wish they weren't so expensive and were more durable. I miss the solid black shoe. I ordered the black but am not very happy about the orange and the logo on it. Some of us just want durable shoes that don't cost a fortune and are just plain as we wear them most of the time.
After only 4 months of purchasing the Paradigm 6 in the white with light yellow trim, they have lost support in the forefoot section. The fabric stretched and is loose so that my feet now slide toward the outer side of the shoes when walking. They are now too wide and they give a very misshapen appearance.I still own the Paradigm 4.5 and they are perfect! The cushion and support are still going strong. I was looking for a new color when purchasing the 6's. I was not overly thrilled with the color but that was the only color in my size in this model at my local store. I cannot wear the shoes now because of lack of support and the cushion in toe area which I need for arthritis in toes just doesn't stand up to the 4.5's. Lost confidence and trust in Altra. I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be sure, but I think I've found my Unicorn Shoe! I have a hard to fit foot - narrow heel, comparatively wide forefoot, and low/flat arches. This shoe fits perfectly and feels amazing! The pictures make the Paradigm look like a heavy, max cushion shoe, but it is definitely not. For comparison sake, it is more shoe than the Provision, but feels lighter and less stiff than the Brooks Adrenaline. I HATED the Provision - too wide in the heel, rubbed my little toe, and there was a pressure point in the instep that killed me. I almost didn't try the Paradigm but I am so glad I did! I ran a 10K trail race this weekend (I know, they're not trail shoes) and had no foot or toe pain that I was getting in my Adrenalines. ... MoreI waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be sure, but I think I've found my Unicorn Shoe! Please, never change them!Note: I have a narrow foot and this fits perfectly, so I could see someone with a normal to wide foot feeling like they are too narrow.
This is my second pair of Altra Paradigm 6s--I got the green/gray as it was the last color and the shoe was hard to to come by in my size. I happily wore out my first pair. I look forward to putting on these sneakers and running. I alternate with Hoka Arahi or trail shoes and look forward to the zero drop days. They are so comfortable and have me running o my forefoot and getting in a good rhythm so I can manage the pace for awhile with comfort. Afterward, my feet feel more alive and better than they did before. I am not sure why. They are more flexible than the Hokas and feel responsive. If not used to 0 drop, I would taper down to it. I love the wide toe box and the snug fit in the heel. I use a runners loop on most shoes but do not need one for these. I love the wide toe box and the snug fit in the heel. I use a runners loop on most shoes but do not need one for these. They fit a female runners' foot well, narrow at the heel and generous for splayed toes at the forefoot. Moosejaw delivered them on time and well-packaged. One thing--I wear a 9 in running shoes, but for Altra Lone Peaks and other trail shoes, I wear an 8 1/2. I would order these in your street running shoe size.
I've been buying Altra shoes for a number of years now. I have Morton's neuromas in both feet and having the wider toe box with more generous fabric on the toe with Altra shoes made running not just possible, but pain free. I had been running in the Provision but decided to try the Paradigm for the increased cushion. Within 2 miles of my first run, my toes were burning. I tried a second run in them and couldn't finish without limping. I'm returning them and going back to the Provision. I hope that as newer models get rolled out, the room for toes doesn't keep going down. It would be fantastic to have a support shoe with the original foot shape.
What can I say?! I absolutely love these sneakers! I bought these shoes for the purpose of jogging/exercise. Normally, when I buy a new pair of sneakers I swap out the insoles for name brand ones. However, when I put these sneakers on for sizing (I bought them online) I was immediately surprised at how well they fit. My heels and ankles felt supported and secure , my heels did not slip out of the shoe. In addition, I have high arches and these sneakers were able to take care of that too! The extra toe room is also a game changer...my toes have room to wriggle and breathe. The extra cushioning on the soles feels like I am running on a rubber track instead of hard pavement.
