A Light & Comfortable Zero-Drop Training Shoe

The heel and collar fabric is soft and smooth, as is an improved, more plush tongue (compared to previous models). After about a week of testing, I had taken the Altra Torin 6 on a few shorter runs and one longer 12-mile run around the foothills of Boulder, Colo. I used the Torins on pavement and sidewalks and on mostly flat road, though still with some elevation gain.I also should point out that I have run or hiked in zero-drop shoes previously, including other Altras, though not recently. When minimalist and zero-drop shoes became more popular a few years ago, I had run in a few zero-drop shoes from Merrell for both trail and road.I was a little nervous about running longer distances in these Torins, but I had no pain issues whatsoever. From the first time out, the Torin felt light and airy underneath my feet. These shoes gave me a new outlook on running on pavement. So far, I'm confident their cushion and stability will last miles and miles.

A super comfortable show with great support!

Wow! I love this shoe! I don't usually opt to workout in shoes before breaking them in, but the first time I put the shoe on, I knew it was comfortable enough to go run in. I work out at Orange Theory a few times a week and run to supplement on other days. I tested this shoe in both environments and some strength training at home and it held up it's comfort and durability in all three workouts. I have a wider foot at the center, and this shoe did not feel like it was squeezing or squashing my feet at all. It does fit true to size in my opinion. I do not have the same issue with the tongue that other people have mentioned in their reviews, but I typically wear a similar trail shoe with a harder higher tongue like the Torin. It compares to my other favorite running ... MoreWow! I would absolutely purchase another pair. I have a hard time finding a running shoe I like and that doesn't cause shin splints or bother my knees. This did neither! The benefits are comfort, durability, being able to wear them right out of the box.I would absolutely buy this product and recommended it to family and friends. Even though this was a promo and I recieved this as part of a sample, I already am planning on buying a pair for my partner!

These Altras are my first barefoot shoe. I am truly converted now! I am usually a 9.5 but transitioned to the barefoot, toe spacing, future foot conscious mindset when buying these. I likely have been buying shoes too small forever so I sized up to a 10 and these are a perfect fit. I do not run, so the tongue doesn't bother me at all. I wear them with NorthSoles at my job at the hospital (long shifts on tile floors) and I literally hate all my other shoes because of them (and so do my pinky toes). I want to wear them all the time. They have the perfect amount of cushion and are so perfect for having a good toe spread. I didn't have difficulty transitioning out of other shoes but had been working on foot/toe strength for a few months prior to my purchase as I knew ... MoreThese Altras are my first barefoot shoe. Level up from Riveras, they might be wearing fast
23 January 2023

These shoes are a definite level up from the Rivera 1 (I went through 3 pairs of those but couldn't make the Rivera 2s work for me). I'm all for Altra, all for the toe box, all for the 0 drop. I emphatically encourage other runners to get them. 0 drop changed my running form for the better. Torin 6 feels like it was made for me. I love the level of cushion and the shape and how it hugs my skinnier heel while giving plenty room for my toes, which need it. I also feel like there's a good amount of room for my toes to move up and down. That said, I'm a little worried these are wearing out too fast, in the internal support or whatever it's called. I have two Torin 6 pairs that I religiously rotate (and use alternate shoes for speed workouts and cross training days) so each Torin 6 pair gets worn at most 3 times a week. They are already giving me pain in the balls of my feet like other shoes do when they reach the end of their usable life, far earlier than other models. I'm sad--as a college student a 150$ shoe (times 2) was a splurge for me and I'd hoped they'd last me longer.

The ONLY reason. I didn't give 5 stars is because I haven't been able to run in these yet as I injured myself (not running) right after I received them. They are incredibly lightweight and comfortable. I have a really hard time with running shoes as I have a lot of problems with my feet, probably in part, because I have a hard time finding the right shoes. Anyway, the toe box fits well, the shoes are light, and they're comfortable. I may opt for the higher cushion level next time. If you're used to wearing a cushioned shoe like most of the well known brands, just know that this feels very different compared to those. Not bad but definitely not what I'm used to, but that and the zero drop are the reasons I bought these in the first place. I needed something ... MoreThe ONLY reason. I have a lot to say, so bare with me :) I am 43, and a firefighter for over 15 years. I stay fit, and cardio is of upmost importance to me. I will say though, since having kids, my money and priorities weigh heavily towards my kids and not me anymore. I got to try these shoes for free, and I couldn't be more thankful. I tend to buy what's on sale, or what I have always known as far as commercial name brands. They are fine, but tend to wear out quickly, and im replacing them all the time it seems. I didn't know this brand, and I didn't know this brand prior to trying them out, but I can say with 100% certainty, quality matters, and these are quality! I have a wider foot, but most wide shoes are almost too wide. Not these! I feel like my foot is secured nicely, with little wiggle room, and the soles are so soft, its like walking on your favorite foam pillow. These are soft and flexible, and if you are like me and pull on your shoes from time to time, you will love how flexible the material is. I have had a number of shoes that some hard plastic piece tends to poke through in the heal after I wear it down a bit, but that has not happened here. I have a learned a good lesson on taking the extra time to buy something that's quality, and not just what youre used to. I feel I would have never known about these had I not had the chance to try them, so trust me 100% when I tell you these are amazing. No blisters, the shoes are holding up incredible, and they feel as good weeks into wearing them as they did when I first put them on. I hope after reading this you consider trying these out. You will be incredibly pleased, just like I was, and maybe find your new favorite shoe brand!

I bought these for long runs. The cushioning is perfect for that, as my feet stay comfy throughout. The width is fine for me; in the past I have bought my true-to-size though these are on the cusp of needing to go one size up for me. Here's my issue: the tongue! The front of my shin has blistered on long runs thanks to the tongue being too long and too hard. The first time it happened I should have known better than wearing ankle socks. When the blister healed and I took them out again for another long run, I wore compression sleeves on my calves. I still blistered through this! Did the team not test these out before putting them out to market? I wouldn't say I have particularly sensitive skin. I actually can't remember the last time I had a blister before this. Tongue is Worse than Before, Unbelievable!
15 July 2022

Let me say I am a big Altra fan. I have six pairs so far. Once I found zero drop, wide toe box, flexible shoes, my running took off. No more plantar fasciitis. In the process, I learned to tolerate the Torin 5 tongue because eventually it softened a bit and because I love everything else about the shoe. I awaited my Torin 6's with great anticipation as I assumed (wrongly!) that with all the customers complaining about the Torin 5 tongue, that SURELY the Altra development team would fix this known tongue problem. No such luck. The Torin 6 tongue made the frontside of my ankles bleed whereas the Torin 5 tongue just caused some minor discomfort. Sure they "created a softer feel by reducing material layers and extending a plush microfiber material to the top" as the phrasing goes, but they apparently did not allow for everyday, loyal customers like those of us taking the time to share our experience here to serve as pre-market testers because this shoe is a total fail. They literally made the tongue worse than before which is why I rate a one star. All I can say is while I wear my old Torin 5s and wait for the Torin 7s to come out, my Topo Athletic Magnifly 4s are on order!

Well Designed Shoes
25 October 2022

This amazing shoe fits like a dream. From the moment I first put them on they fit perfectly and I didn't need to break them in, a sure sign of a well-designed shoe. The heel support is flexible and cushy, the ball of foot cushioning is superb and very stable. I could walk and do HIIT in them, primarily what I use them for, forever. Also the heel is elongated so it's easier to get the shoe on and doesn't bother my achilles, which is another issue common with other shoes and one that drives me crazy. The shoe conforms my feet wonderfully and still provides support without suffocating my feet. The fabric is sturdy but light and breathes so that my feet never get hot, something that I have a big problem with. Almost most importantly, the tongue of the shoe isn't stiff ... MoreThis amazing shoe fits like a dream. There are even little reflectors on the sides of the shoe that go well with the design and don't detract from the overall comfort. The shoes are just so well designed, there really isn't one uncomfortable spot on this shoe. Honestly I wish I'd known about this brand years ago, I'd have been buying them all along. I got these in size 7.5 and navy/coral color which is VERY pretty. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and will buy in the future!

Wonderful shoe though I had to modify.

I've loved my torins ever since I slipped them on a few years ago. So I was saddened when I first tried on the latest iteration, torin six. Like many others have noted, the tongue is too long and the fit on the 9.5 didn't feel like my other 9.5's. After sending back the 9.5's I went to a running shoe store to see if a ten would feel better and it did! So then I had to sort out the problem of the long tongue. The shoe salesman noted other torin fans had cut off the excess tongue, but I hated to mar my new shoes. Instead I have been running comfortably with the tongue tucked under the first row of crossed laces, further securing the laces by tying my bows on top of the tucked down tongue. I'm so glad I found this solution because I love how Torins fit. They allow me ... MoreI've loved my torins ever since I slipped them on a few years ago. They allow me to switch from a forefoot to a heel strike and all in between comfortably, depending on the terrain and state of my legs. They are still my favorite running shoes!
