This upgraded echo dot is simply outstanding with all the new and upgraded features. I have a lot of items at homes that works well with my echo dot, such as all my lights, fans and television. I love how it makes ur day so much easier and programming it is super easy as well. It alarms to wake me up then tells me little bits of the news and most importantly the weather. Then also gives me traffic advise closure to when I have to leave. The voice quality and speaker quality is definitely an upgrade from the last one I have. Highly highly recommend this instead of others. You will not regret it.

The speaker as such is OK, but one enters into Amazon with this speaker and so any review must also concern Amazon Music. The problem is that Amazon quite recently changed their Music Prime service so that a Amazon Prime subscriber no longer has on-demand listening ability. All that is available is shuffle-only service, much like Pandora. The move intends to force people to purchase the $10/monthly Unlimited plan. So, if you plan to use this speaker for your Amazon Music Prime account, beware. It will not work as you had hoped.

We are happy with the design, and user friendliness of this device. We have had another smart device shaped more like a hockey puck, but I prefer this round ball design. It lights up with different colors based on a notification. We say “play my notifications, and it lets us know if a package is on the way or if a refund has been issued, for example. It plays the music when we ask, and can make announcements to other devices around the house. We use this multiple times per day to just ask a simple question or make a conversion or do math for us. We get frustrated with her lack of understanding our voice or commands at times, but I think that’s pretty normal. We will continue to use it daily!

The actual speaker is great. Good sound quality for the size and easy to set up and use. The downside is it usually tries to sell you some type of extra and I can't stop it doing it. Also, Amazon music included with the monthly prime membership used to be really good. Now, however, you can't play specific songs/albums without paying for an additional subscription on top costing an extra £8.99 per month on top of your cost of subscribing to amazon prime. Starting to doubt my choice of smart speaker.
We now have 2 of these. One for each of our boys who are 7 & 10.They mainly use them to play music & do quizzes, but there are loads of fun & interesting things you can do with these things, like get weather updates, communicate between rooms, learn jokes, play audiobooks, etc you can have them playing different songs or link them to play the same song at the same time, so you have a surround sound thing going on in the house. We might even get a 3rd one to have in the kitchen at some point so as to better cover all corners of the house. The sound these small speakers put put is pretty impressive. We dont yet have any of our lights or blinds connected to these yet but we might do further down the track. Theres still plenty you can get out of them without using them ... MoreWe now have 2 of these. Theres still plenty you can get out of them without using them to control stuff around the house so I reckon theyre money well spent, especially for the kids to have a useful alarm clock in their room that they can also have a lot of fun with.
Have recently upgraded from a much older echo dot. The sound quality is a lot better. Only issue is the charge/connect cable is quite loose and has to sit just right to not turn off. This might have just been an issue with this device and not an all round defect, hence the 4 star rating. The buttons on top are very sensitive as well, but will take some getting used to. Overall a great device! Would recommend.
When you need a alarm to wake up in the morning all you have to do is ask Alexa to wake u up at a time and it will start a soft progressive Chime amd get louder until you say Alexa Stop.If you like music and games you can also set up in the Alexa app to the skills (there's over 1000 to choose from). You can also set up a announcement and it will announce any message you have. If you have a ring doorbell connected to your Alexa app it will alert you that someone is at the door. If you want to know the time and date and weather you can ask Alexa those. There's plenty more that Alexa can do... the possibilities are endless.
I have been an Amazon Echo/Alexa user for several years and am amazed at the functionality of the Echo products and Alexa. From the ability to stream media services, receive news, set up home automation, timers/alarms, the list goes on... Alexa is the way to go. I particularly appreciate the home automation. Most of my house is now voice controlled. From thermostat settings, lights, door locks to custom routines, I can control pretty much any aspect of my home with a simple voice command. Setup with Amazon's Smart plugs and switches is simple and hassle free through the Alexa app, there's no fiddling with settings in third party app or special Wi-Fi configuration. I absolutely did not expect such sound quality out of a small Smart Speaker. If you're an audiophile and looking for a Smart Speaker, the Amazon Echo Dot 5th Generation is definitely worth your consideration
The primary reason I purchased this model was the room temperature sensor which should mean it can control our WiFi enabled heat pump which is yet to be installed. This unit has a different type of display which has more functionality than that of the 4th generation unit able to now display now fairly rudimentary weather graphics. As a consequence of the new display type the clock is actually not as clear as the previous model, but still very readable. We are very happy with this unit, but would have otherwise not have replaced the 4th generation model otherwise as only wished to gain the new functionality.
My daughters and I love this! It was so easy to set up. It only took a couple minutes to get it completely set up on my account and linked to the internet. I homeschool my daughters and we are learning Spanish together. We love being able to ask Alexa how to say words in Spanish that we want to learn. It’s also great for playing my music hands free while I am cooking or doing dishes. This has definitely made things easier for me throughout the day being able to quickly ask questions instead of having to get on my phone to look them up.
