Amazon - Kindle Oasis E-reader - 7 High-Resolution Display 300 PPI Waterproof Built-in Audible 8GB Wi-Fi - Black and Silver - B06XD5YCKX

I absolutely adore this Kindle Oasis. My previous Kindle was a first generation Kindle, so some of these upgrades might already be part of some of the newer Kindle iterations, but there are so many improvements. I love the shape; it's really nice to hold in one hand. You can adjust the warmth and brightness of the screen, which makes reading in low light and bright light really comfortable. I'm also a big fan of the page turning buttons (my first gen Kindle has buttons as well, and I was a bit nervous about moving to something with just a touch screen). I also like that it syncs with Goodreads and the Kindle app on my phone. I can't say that I'll ever use all 32GB, but it's nice to know that I could store a million books if I wanted to.

This is my third Kindle...no they don't break down (at least not for me) I just like to pass on the 'old' one and upgrade. This latest has a bigger screen (even though weirdly it looks much smaller than my other two), it's lighter and I can flip pages either using buttons or tapping the screen. Unfortunately the States is phasing out whispersync (integrated free worldwide web access) so I'll have to be more organised with uploading books before holidays in expensive (or no) wifi areas. Like an ipPad/Ph etc you can also log onto local internet. I am very happy with this latest upgrade and PB Tech's great service and speedy delivery as usual.

Self gifted Xmas present. I have owned my Kindle Oasis for 1 month and am really very happy with it. In hindsight I should have settled for the Paperwhite with similar specs as I have been using on older model Paperwhite for 3+ years. I reasoned that there would be significant improvement in the "user experience" between the Oasis and the Paperwhite, given the price difference, buthonestly not that much. I also wanted to try out some Audio books which was not an option on my original device.Pros - lite, comfortable, heaps of storage, excellent wifi, excellent reading backlight.Cons - same O/S and options as a Paperwhite, only 1 "voice" (female) on the device and changing seems to be harder than it should, still using 2.5Ghz wifi I would have expected dual 2.5 / ... MoreSelf gifted Xmas present. Come on Amazon?? Finally it is REALLY hard to source a nice up market cover in NZ. I wanted the genuine leather one from Amazon but USA export rules say I can't have one!

A bit pricey, but is an excellent reader.

A bit expensive thus maybe not a good value. But an excellent reader. I was using a 6 inch reader and got limited text on a page. With this one, it is 7 inches so a lot more text will fit. I read at night and using dark on light text (as for daytime) was still too bright, but Oasis has a Reverse Text, and that works great...can turn down brightness. Buttons are very handy for page turns. To make it really comfortable to hold, an essential in my view is to buy one of those little finger rings that attaches to the back of a smartphone or tablet....they are all over Ebay. Attach that and you just slip your finger in it (on the back of the Oasis) and you can easily hold the reader without gripping it at all Highly recommended.

Don't hesitate to buy - here's why

I think this Kindle is much under rated in reviews I have read. I didn't imagine it could be so much lighter that I'd even notice a difference, but I do, and it's a dream to hold. I think those that report poor battery life don't have the cover fully connected, not just magnetically, but by the pins. Or possibly they aren't understanding how the battery works in conjunction with the extra battery in the cover. Anyway, when I got it the pins had disconnected a bit in shipping which I didn't even notice. I charged it and the charge got me through about 4 hours. When I had to recharge so quickly I checked and discovered the pins weren't completely connected when I had assumed they were from the fit of the cover. That made the difference! When I had to recharge so quickly I checked and discovered the pins weren't completely connected when I had assumed they were from the fit of the cover. That made the difference! And now no worries about the battery lasting through many many hours. I can't tell how many because it hasn't run out of battery yet and we're at 14 hours and still counting. And I love the buttons for page turning! And the screen, even in bright light, is easy on the eye and clear. This is the best Kindle ever!!! And the price? Why does everyone think it is so high??? The cover isn't just a cover. It includes a second battery which is why you get prolonged battery life. So for the price you are purchasing the Kindle, a very nice leather cover that folds the way you want it to without being stiff or resistant, AND an extra battery for extended battery life. Try pricing those individually and you might feel the price isn't unreasonable after all.

Finally got an E-Reader

Reading books via the Kindle app on an iPhone or iPad is not great. Too many distractions, too heavy to hold for long periods. The Oasis feels just right and is the correct tool for the job. Two small frustrations with the one I bought: no charger and the device smells faintly of cigarettes. I asked specifically if it was a non-smoking home and was told This is a smoke-free home. Which may be true but this Kindle likely came from outside the home and was simply resold by the eBay vendor. He shouldve been upfront about that. Perhaps a better question to ask is Does this item smell of cigarettes or other odors? It seems someone tried to Febreze this Kindle but the odor lingers. I am an ex-smoker and I cant be around that cigarette smell anymore. Hopefully, this odor ... MoreReading books via the Kindle app on an iPhone or iPad is not great. Kindle Oasis

The Kindle was returned. The Best Buy website stated that the Oasis had Bluetooth and Text to Speech. Even the Kindle on display in the store was running a "demo" that suggested it had Bluetooth. Unfortunately, even with the help of your Geek Squad, it is apparent that Kindles distributed in Canada have the Bluetooth disabled and cannot be enabled for some strange reason.Best Buy should correct their advertisement of the product.

Kindle Oasis 2017 - Audible Australia

I have over 900 kindle format ebooks. Just over 100 also have Audible Narration.I read, listen, or both to a book almost every day.The Kindle Paperwhite is my preferred way of reading the books. It is better in high and low light situations.I use an Android phone to listen to books then switch to reading depending on the situation. My Paperwhite is getting a little sluggish and battery life is decreasing. When I read reviews for the 2017 Kindle Oasis and found out it had BlueTooth enabling me to listen as well as read, I talked myself into purchasing one from Officeworks as suggested by the Australian Amazon Kindle site.Problem! Audible Australia (November 2017) don't support Kindle Oasis. I have received this as a confirmation via email. If you register the Kindle Oasis using the Australian region you won't have any BlueTooth options available even though you will see the headphone icon listed against books that have Audible narration.Register the device to the US region. BlueTooth options are there.I don't suggest flipping between the US and AU sites as Amazon has another interesting policy. If you purchase a kindle ebook on the US site without Audible narration, then migrate the book to the Australian site you can't add narration from the Aus site at a reduced price. This is the same moving from Aus to US site.It is often significantly cheaper to buy the kindle book with narration, rather than buying the Audible version standalone. If BlueTooth is your reason for buying the Oasis and you are registered on the Australian sites. I'd wait until we have support from the Australian Audible site. For purely reading the paperwhite is better value. For flipping between reading and listening, Kindle on Android works well.Windows is stuck with 2 separate applications for reading (Kindle) and listening (Audible).I haven't tried any Apple devices. To the people responsible for the reviews of Kindle Oasis appearing on Australian sites and not mentioning the lack of support. I'm a little disappointed.I purchased the Oasis via Officeworks online and picked it up from the Hobart store when it was available. I had no problems with the purchase process and found the Hobart staff friendly and helpful.RegardsAllan

The best Kindle yet.

All the advantages of a kindle Paperwhite, plus its much lighter and the button page turn is pretty much instantaneous. As your eyes scan the last word on the page, you press the button and by the time your eyes have moved back to the top of the page, its ready for you. Very light and easy to use in one hand. If you turn it upside down, the screen reorients itself, so it can be used in either hand. Perfect for the left handed. Or for when I have a cup of tea.

Thin, small, light weight, dim, packs well, charges well, 38g space.

I got this for my husbands birthday. He has always dreamed of a Kindle. He was using Kindle app on his phone. I don't know how to use it. But he figured it all out and now he tells me that he loves it literally every day. The dim light is great for night reading. It's light weight. It charges well. He still loves paperbacks and collecting books but this man just reads and reads and this was perfect for him. About time to find a good product. The 38g of space is a thrill for a book lover. He's already invested in so many Kindle books with plenty of space left to go. from him. He loves it. Great gift for book worms.
