It is small and extremely portable. I find it easier to carry this around instead of a book of any size. The warm light on this generation is great. I can turn the lights off and read a little before going to bed easily. I quickly figured out how to turn ad filtering on to keep the romance novels off the lock screen and keep it family friendly. I also set up the Household and Family Library to select books specifically for my kids to read. I can create a child account, manage their digital content, and hand the Paperwhite to them to read without worrying that they'll stumble into less age appropriate reading. I tried an Audible book with the Paperwhite, and it was simple to connect my headphones via bluetooth to stream the book. I felt like using the bluetooth consumed a bit more battery life and didn't see much advantage over using my smartphone, but it is nice to have the option. Overall, I am glad that I made the switch from smartphone reading to the new Paperwhite, it really, truly is a vast improvement in the reading experience beyond what I could have imagined.

The screen size is slightly larger than earlier Paperwhite devices so a bit more text fits on the screen - it seems more natural than previous Paperwhites, more like a paper back book. It claims to be water resistant but I have not had need to test this. I use it without a cover and it has been rugged for travel. A charge will last a VERY long time, so it's perfect to load up with books for an off-grid vacation. Cordless charging works as expected, and the C port is a welcome upgrade - no more fussing with which way the cord goes in. I've not used the Bluetooth feature for listing to audio books. It's a nice touch but it's far easier to use my phone for this.Downside - They put the power button on the button, and every so often you'll turn off the device unintentionally if it's resting on a table. It IS pricey but I expect this will last for quite awhile - my first paperwhite did.
I confess: I loved my early version keyboard-equipped Kindle reader. When it finally began cracking here and there, I dreaded replacing it. I don't like this Paperwhite other than its price. Maybe I should have spent more $, but I'm not sure the more costly versions really work better. The screen is decently readable. Pages turn OK, though sometimes seemingly randomly. Purchasing and downloading new books is hit and miss with the device. Better be ready to use your computer to buy and to tell Amazon to download to your device. The book may get there.
