I purchased this for use with an Asus x670e plus Wi-Fi motherboard unfortunately Asus has yet to release a stable bios and so I'm not going to risk the health of my Hardware by putting it in or turning it on. I can say however that Micro Center was able to give me a processor in person on launch day unlike Best Buy who literally sold out as I was refreshing the page probably to a bot. Micro Center is policy of showing up in person to receive your processor and having a One processor for customer policy is the reason I was able to acquire my processor I'm hoping that the recent updated bios gets taken out of beta sometime soon so that I can try my gear thank you

I bought on launch day and have been running it ever since. Runs games and streams well. most of the time under 60-70c but i have a 420mm Rad. Rarely ever have i seen 80c besides the first week or so. Running ddr5 6000 at cl30 no problems. MSI board because Asus board was DOA. Highly recommend for gaming and streaming, it makes it look super easy. Maybe its over kill for that but i wanted it.

This Thang rips my weird games that love cache. Down side is scheduling is garbage. If you want the most out of this thing then get process lasso and set you games to the 3d cores and other apps to non 3d cores.
Great processor but high $$$ for the performance matching and sometimes worse than 13900k. I have both and this has had no issues, but not sure worth it over the Intel part which is $170 less at the moment. Temps are way better so a smaller sized build will benefit from this and still be a creator/gamer performance stud. Also the AM5 upgradability is a plus, but yeah, if you can cool the 13900k, might be the way for the dollars. If the money doesn’t matter but the upgrade path does, buy this or even the 7950x as that one is the upgrade I did for my wife, she can’t tell a difference in the x3d or not.*You cannot conventionally overclock this CPU - PBO is your way mainly.*
Amazing chip for gaming, for anything really while being incredibly efficient. Haven't had any issues with scheduling, games are on CCD0 while CCD1 is parked, basically everything else will prefer frequency as it should. Don't write reviews much, but I'm just really impressed with everything about this especially its power draw vs performance.
Got lucky and mine can run 6400mhz stable memory. Currently at 6200mhz with super tight timings. Its a hot chip if you run PBO. But its fine you dont buy this kind of chip to run it cool anyways. Make sure you have it setup right in windows. Your frames wont just be higher the frametimes will be much more stable which I can feel in VR. That frametime curve looks sexy. Just pair it with hynix M or A die and tighten those timings. 13900k is a fantastic chip but you just can't beat this chip for watts, heat, and frametimes.
I have been waiting to purchase this CPU for over a year since the original 5800X3D came out. I wanted to address some of the criticisms of this CPU and help people get an accurate assessment of it's performance.I am running a 4090 as well.I have personally also tested the 13900k in order to come to a fair conclusion. With that being said. The reason why I believe this CPU is better than the 13900k is because of a few main characteristics. Temperature control, tweaking, long term support.Let's discuss the troubleshooting/tweaking since it's the main argument against the 7950x3D being crowned the king especially in gaming. Many Intel users will report that the 7950X3D is worse than the 13900k with 7200-8000Mhz ram. This however is a massive catch. Because in order to get 7200mhz ram working you have to spend hours in the BIOS tweaking the voltages just right and manually configuring the timings so it can boot properly. Even one of the most experienced overclockers known as "buildzoid" has found this to be nearly impossible to stabilize for long term use. So the argument most critics try to use can be invalidated simply on this point alone in terms of comparison. Because even if it is stable for gaming, it won't be under an intense stress test. Which can lead to system corruption and a broken operating system which no one is happy about.Next let's talk about temperature, the 13900k even with a 420MM Arctic radiator is unable to cool itself to a proper temperature. Meaning that the CPU gets above 90c and reaches thermal throttling within a few seconds of a stress test. Why is this such an issue? Well when a CPU reaches thermal throttling or high temperatures. It will artificially throttle or slow itself down in order to protect itself. This can lead to massive drops in performance and is never a good sign. There is however one way that most users have found a way to lower the temperatures and that is installing a special mounting bracket for the motherboard socket. It is created by der8auer, it is fairly inexpensive and only costs about $5-10 so it isn't a large investment. But this requires disassembling and reassembling the entire motherboard socket which can be extremely difficult to manage for some users. Where as on a 280mm radiator the 7950X3D never gets above 75-80c in my testing. So what's the catch with the 7950X3D?The main thing that may draw users away from this cpu is it's architecture and scheduling. The 7950X3D has what's known as a dual-ccd design. Meaning it has 16 cores but they are split into 2 groups of 8. One chip has the 3D Cache that boosts gaming and some applications with a slightly lower boost clock of 5.25GHZ. The second CCD has a higher boosting clock of 5.7 but has no 3D Cache. This has led to AMD/Microsoft needing to cooperate in order to come up with a solution to this scheduling conflict. Because the operating system needs to make sure it uses the right 8 cores for gaming. This however is not as well designed as Intel. Because rather than relying on a firmware directory known as "thread director" that intel has created manually on the CPU Itself. Which helps scheduling conflicts.AMD has opted to use XBOX game-bar. Which some users have found to be clunky and annoying at times to use.If a game is not running on the 3D cache, you can open up game bar settings and select a box that says "remember this as a game" which will properly use the 8 cores with 3D-cache next time you restart the application. So although this cpu has some scheduling issues. In time it should be ironed out and won't be as big of an issue. But it is still something to keep in mind going forward. Finally and arguably most importantly is long term support. The motherboard platform that the 7950X3D is running on is known as AM5, AMD has publicly announced that they plan to support this CPU all the way into 2025. This means that another 2-3 generations of CPU's can be used with this exact same motherboard. Meaning when you want to make an upgrade. You don't have to disassemble the entire PC. You can just set the new cpu in and be done. This is a very nice feature to have for some people and it payed off amazingly for people that bought into AM4 with the 5800X3D.Since the 5800x3d was supported by motherboards that came out 4-5 years ago. Where as Intel forces each new cpu generation to only support 1 motherboard for 1 year. So the 12900k/13900k are supported with Z690/Z790 boards and that is the most you are getting from that platform.Overall though, the experience I have had as an avid E-sports gamer and daily windows user has been amazing. The issues I have to deal with are easier to manage than Intels and overall it's a great platform to be on. This generation of hardware from both companies is so close that there is no wrong decision when it comes to choice.
Upgraded from my old 10 core Intel Skylake. I read every review I could find about this CPU and was thinking of waiting for the 7800x3d or picking up the majority discounted non-x3d CPU like 7900x but changed my mind. The 7950x3d is the best under games that really push a system down to low FPS and like a fine wine will age way better. I need to be able to have more the just my game running. This CPU running 32c at start up and 38c gaming at 4k 144hz with RTX4090 for hours max settings. That's super cool. Much better come summer as I don't want a power hog Intel CPU that acts like a room heater in summer. AMD AM5 platform life span looks exceptional. Old Intel VROC key and NVME raid felt like a scam so now trying AMD besides its just better all around other then the ... MoreUpgraded from my old 10 core Intel Skylake. Awesome chip, great for gaming and productivity. Was put off by "scam" videos at first but decided to try this out. Not sure why people had such problems with it. It just works. Been actively monitoring core usage and they are assigned properly. Had one game that used the productivity ccd, went into game bar and marked it as a game and now its using the cache ccd. Have this paired with a 4090 on a 4k 120 cx and almost everything is 120 with all ultra while the cpu and video card is at stock for now except with expo enabled. Best of all, i can finally play acc in vr(openxr not steamvr) with vr high settings (no reprojection) at 90hz without any jitters. Just did a 30 car ai race, starting at the back as a test to see what performance would be like. 90hz stable on the ... MoreAwesome chip, great for gaming and productivity. Its almost addictive watching this cpu spread work through the different cores. Btw, i have this paired with a x670e taichi / 64gb gskill expo cl30 ram (the one that microcenter sells) / noctua nhd15 and everything came together perfectly.
