This CPU is so good, I bought a Radeon GPU instead of NVida so that AMD can have more of my money. It's THAT good!I used this TR 1920X in an upgradable workstation build intended to last many, many years. This thing is a beast, even after I min-maxed my build with relatively low memory, slow disks, etc to lower initial build cost. The opportunity for future upgrades are fantastic - up to 128GB or ram.I got it on holiday discounts, but after experiencing the unlimited power available, i would do it all over again, even at at full price.

This CPU was on sale for the holidays. My son needed a lot of threads for computer rendering and this guy fits the bill very well. On benchmark tests for rendering it tears it up. We had Microcenter do the build with parts they helped us select because we had heard the threadripper was a bit more difficult to build. Check out cooling as some AIO water coolers turned out to not fit as well as they should. Originally tried the Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite but it didn't fit and ended up with a Corsair that worked very well. We have had no issues with temps. I would expect this on a new chip.

Absolutely loved this processor. For music production and multitasking its amazing. If youre a music producer on a budget this will go far for you. I only sold because upgraded to the 24 core version. Well worth every penny. Especially since the prices of these are coming down.

Liquid cooling a must. Installing this CPU isn't at all difficult if you pay attention to the sequence to tighten the screws. Watch a video online to familiarize yourself with the procedure. Use a higher capacity power supply than you think you will need. I wasn't able to give this cpu five eggs because of the high memory latency. Pros: Excellent cpu, for the price that it is currently at you cannot complain about any performance, I run mine at 4ghz on all cores and its a real monster nothing else in this price bracket competes.Cons: Be prepared to troubleshoot a little at first when installed and many reboots to fail in your settings, not an easy cpu for beginners, anyone with moderate experience should be fine.Before purchasing this cpu make sure you have a x399 motherboard lined up because they are getting more scarce.
Pros: Very fast CPU. I have not had a single issue with it bogging down as of yet. I have done everything from playing VR, to encoding videos, to installing programs, running benchmarks. Nothing seems to make this sucker lag. It's a beast for sure. Cons: I haven't found any cons as of yet. MUST BE WATER COOLED. - This is not a con, this is a good piece of advice that I am giving to all those that wish to purchase this CPU. This CPU is just NOT meant to be air cooled. Sorry fan guys. Water cooling is the only thing that can keep this beast tame under full load. Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product to the person that wants to build a monster home gaming system/server/multi-media station, all in one.
Asrock did good on this. Install CD had usb drivers for Win 7 that worked without a problem. Just had to swap ps2 mouse and keyboard between boots. I like w7 has more color than life less W10. Still have a HD with W10 on it. I swap them when I want. Used Memory on the list and was easy bootup first time.Power it has. Will try upping the clock later . Runs at 3.7G without sweat. I disable auto core boost and set manual voltage and clock. Keeps the heat down. Using air cooler, Used Asrock mobo. Nice step up from the ryzen

It also takes advantage of the excellent x399 chipset that, while expensive from a motherboard standpoint, makes for a very versatile platform when looking to build a machine that can truly multitask.Bottom line.. This processor is quickly being phased out and if you want to be on the absolute bleeding edge then you should look elswhere. If, however, you are looking to get started in 3D modeling and graphics, playing with video editing, or building a NAS server that can also run as a Plex server and virtualization server, then you couldn't pick a better time to hunt down a steal of a deal on a Threadripper setup. At 250 USD, which will likely fall just a bit farther just before Threadripper 3 hits (soon), this processor is an excellent starting point.
Seems stable with 12c/24t, even with a Noctua air cooler attached. If all you do is game, this CPU is overkill. 3D rendering and heavy processing workloads benefit the most. Definitely recommended for media pros and enthusiasts.
I have used different versions of i7 since ~2012 and mostly AMD CPUs before that. I must say that Threadripper is the best experience so far! I use my computer for heavy virtualization workloads and this particular CPU handles everything much better than I expected.An excellent choice for the professional workstation!
