I love these. They?re pretty close to the versions I get in the Chinese supermarket but when that?s too far to get to I buy these as a suitable alternative. Have a couple of packs in the cupboard all the time. I cook them at the end of the stir fry and just add a tiny bit of boiling water on top of them when they?re in the wok.

Excellent quality and value for money

I love these nutty bars, but they are usually too expensive. These were very affordable and I bought them in bulk. They are excellent quality and value for money

You can end up tearing your hair out if you're tired and trying to separate these noodles straight from the pack without ending up with chopped noodles. I've found a little trick that helps a lot if they seem particularly impacted and hard in their packet - just pierce the bag once, pop it in the microwave on low and watch it like a hawk for a minute or so. Take it out and it should be warmed through enough to have made the noodles far more pliable and easy to handle. Alternatively, if you have a pan of hot water going, just put the bag in (without piercing) for a couple of minutes and again you'll find they soften up without breaking. If they still seem a bit unyielding then add them to your hot wok without oil and pour a good slug of boiling water over first - the ... MoreYou can end up tearing your hair out if you're tired and trying to separate these noodles straight from the pack without ending up with chopped noodles. I find I can stretch a pack out for two hungry adults no problem with a pack of stir-fry veggies and some extra mushrooms and water chestnuts, served with your choice of stir-fried meat, prawns or tofu. They're very tasty noodles, nice texture, and they make a nice change from our usual favourite, the ever reliable Sharwood's medium egg noodles, which are dried but only take a few minutes to boil. For late nights when you just can't be bothered these are great, though.

Like plastic
13 September 2021

I am reviewing this product because I received a free sample. These noodles are easy to use - they dont need to be pre-soaked or boiled before adding to a stir-fry. However, they have a soft plastic kind of texture and taste strange. They are my very least favourite of all the non-fresh noodles I have tried.

Not as good as the frozen ones
13 October 2021

I buy these if the others are sold out, but the texture is inferior. These noodles are crumbly and sticky in stir-fry, so I would only recommend using them in soups or broth. If they're available, buy the frozen udon noodles also available from Ocado, which are far superior.

Not for me
25 September 2021

I am reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. Although these noodles are very convenient to have in, with a long shelf life, they are very slimy when cooked with a strange flavour. They are not something I would buy. Maybe the thicker ones would be better.

Terrible texture
30 September 2021

These noodles are not what I'd expect from an udon - there's no chewy bite to them. They were almost mushy; definitely too soft for an udon (I didn't overcook them!). I normally buy the frozen Yutaka udon noodles, but these were out of stock at the time.

Useless
25 August 2021

Fell apart into tiny pieces as soon as I took them out of the packet, so became completely unusable. Given they smelt of rancid oil, I didn't think that was much of a loss to our dinner. Also worth noting that these are not what I would call "thread fine" noodles - they are not vermicelli as you would use in a Thai salad, etc.

quick and easy

So my son loves noodles and normally he likes the fresh egg noodles but they don’t last long and can get expensive. I switched to the ones you have to boil yourself and that was annoying. I saw theses and thought I’d give them a go to my amazement my fussy 14 yr old loves them but of fried onion that is only there for the taste as he picks it out then drizzled in soy sauce it’s a quick snack if he’s peckish. So I’ll make sure I stock up on theses!

staple in our home - best noodles you can get!
5 September 2018

These noodles are fantastic. They are so simple to cook yet so tasty and we have stir fry in our home at least twice a week. A load of chopped veg and either chicken/salmon/prawns with soy sauce, fresh garlic and ginger, Chinese 5 spice, fresh parsley and coriander with a teaspoon of honey.Absolutely no need to complicate separating them like the review below, just very gently hold the noodles in your hands and give them a shake, they come apart in seconds. Or put the block in the wok with a little bit of stock and put the lid on, the steam soon separates them. Lets not start boiling and microwaving our food in plastic unnecessarily!
