The iPad Pro is still the best tablet on the planet by far.The display is excellent as always. Colors are vivid and text is sharp. ProMotion 120Hz is life changing; you’ll never want to use a 60Hz screen again. The pro has some of the best speakers I’ve ever heard in a portable device, tablet or laptop. While the bass isn’t as strong as I’d like, (it’s a miracle there’s as much as bass as there is in the ridiculously thin form factor of this thing) the mids and higher end are incredibly clear.Performance is overkill for iPadOS, but nonetheless the M2 chip speeds through any task you throw at it. You can try to make the thing slow down with multiple apps and tabs open, but it’ll just chug on without breaking a sweat.Battery life lasts a full day and then some. ...Ā MoreThe iPad Pro is still the best tablet on the planet by far.The display is excellent as always. It’s not gonna beat out the 13ā€ M2 MacBook Air, but if you’re the type to plug in your device overnight regardless of its charge, then the Pro’s battery should be more than enough.Apple pencil gets a small upgrade on the M2 iPad Pro with the new ā€˜hover’ feature that allows a preview of the color, size, and angle of your brush strokes before making contact with the screen. Well this isn’t new technology by any means, its inclusion on the new Pro is appreciated.Magic keyboard support continues to be great and allows the iPad to turn into a versatile laptop that suits most peoples workflows.

The Gift That Will Keep on Giving
2 June 2023

I purchased this M2 chip iPad Pro for my cousins to use for FaceTime sessions. They had an ancient iPad that was no longer being supported with software updates and had limited memory. Former FaceTime chats gave me very poor quality video of them, they had no video of me and there were frequent screen freezes and loss of audio. This new latest and greatest M2 Chip iPad Pro has crystal clear focused video of them with its new multi camera technology and they have video of me! Audio is perfect and no screen freezes or loss of connection happens. The Express shipping from B&H got it to them in 2 days. They opened the box, charged it up and we had an awesome visit. They now have a great tool to stay connected with other family members, too.

I bought the ipad pro 2022 with expectations to learn how to do digital art. I hear a lot of raving reviews about the Apple Appstore exclusive, procreate. There are however a lot of caveats about the apple pencil (I have the gen 2) that people don't often emphasize, which I'd like to highlight in my review since I also have the samsung tab s7+.The Apple Pencil Gen 2 and the iPad does NOT work well with glass screen protectors. I don't care what the product description says on screen protectors; they just suck -- it basically made my quick notes app worthless (every time I tried to write on it, it drew a connecting line from the top left of the screen to wherever i started to draw). I don't care what the product description says on screen protectors; they just suck -- it basically made my quick notes app worthless (every time I tried to write on it, it drew a connecting line from the top left of the screen to wherever i started to draw). I tried restarting, unpairing and repairing the pen, toggling bluetooth -- the only solution that worked was taking my screen protector off. I've seen reviews of using other types of screen protectors like Paperlike, which you'd have to understand will wear down your pencil nibs faster. My other gripe is that quite often the apple pencil doesn't register or do anything, I have to dock it again and undock it from the magnetic side. This may seem insignificant; however, it gets annoying when you have a case on (and why wouldn't you want a case, when you know you can't have a screen protector). I wish it would just simply work. This draws my point to the samsung tab s7+. That is a 2 year old device, and granted, I would say it was the first tablet samsung put out that I would say could compete with the ipads. And it does so quite well. Samsung's had experience with the stylus for many years ahead of apple (because Steve Jobs detested the idea of having a stylus). The functionality of the stylus on the samsung beats the apple pencil by a long shot. It also feels more comfortable to use; however, that's a personal preference that you'd have to try for yourself. For me, the apple pencil just slides around on the slipper glass surface and makes it hard to really control compared to the nicer feeling tip on the S pen. Again, preference. At the end of the day, you pick an iPad over a Samsung if you absolutely must have the Procreate app and value longevity of software support. I believe the S7+ will be supported through 2024, but the S8 and beyond are supposed to get longer product support cycles. The ipad is significantly more expensive and hard to justify.

What an improvement from my fifth generation iPad
4 November 2022

Coming from a fifth generation iPad, it was hard to get used to not having the button at the bottom. Also other things to get used to with new iOS, like when I swipe up from the bottom, the taskbar pops up first, when I’m used to minimizing the screen first. So you kind of have to continue swiping to shrink your browser window, or search through apps, not sure if I’m explaining that clearly, but when you swipe up to get all the open windows and apps, and you can flick them up to make them disappear, that’s the function I’m talking about. I also IMMEDIATELY noticed this speaker, improvement, and how light weight and thin the unit is. Though it’s not the HDR screen the larger pro has, I think the quality is great, again a big improvement from my iPad fifth generation. ...Ā MoreComing from a fifth generation iPad, it was hard to get used to not having the button at the bottom. I also IMMEDIATELY noticed this speaker, improvement, and how light weight and thin the unit is. Though it’s not the HDR screen the larger pro has, I think the quality is great, again a big improvement from my iPad fifth generation. It looks bigger than my iPad fifth generation, but it doesn’t feel any heavier or harder to hold. I have not bought the keyboard for it, but I’m thinking about it as it is seems from online reviews kind of handy to not drag my laptop inside or further taking out my laptop, plugging it in, and going through all that when this is always charged and in my room. I can swipe through emails, search the web, check out YouTube, social media, real estate, all very easily, while lying in bed without any discomfort. I added a slim shell case, as I don’t like those other cases that cover and prop up, and feel bulky holding while sitting in bed, or on the couch. Battery also last twice as long as my four or five year old fifth-generation. A dislike is the power down feature , though, I think I can fix that in settings, and screenshot doesn’t feel natural either. It’s set up where I pinch the top button and top volume button meaning I have to grab the top corner together with fingers on both hands and doesn’t feel easy to do in hand and I have to rest the tablet on my stomach to hold pressure while pressing. Old method better and more secure using the two palms of my hand on two opposite ends of the tablet made it much easier to hold without feeling like the tablet is gonna fly out of my hand, or fall on the ground. Also the old method was easy, either horizontally or vertically. I guess I have to get used to it if I can’t fix it in settings, which I know there are a few settings like that which I need to explore. So I’ve heard it before, and now I agree, Apple needs to bring back the button!!!

I must have at least 7-8 iPads over the years. I currently have 2 iPad Pros (2020/2021) and just purchased the 12.9 iPad Pro 2023 version (M2). I am not a designer but use the iPad Pro every day totaling at least 3-4 hours daily for emails, web browsing, reading, travel, etc.I figured, if the 11" works, why not go BIGGER? Well, I just discovered that the 12.9" iPad Pro is totally overkill for most users who don't actually use the pen feature or draw/design with it. In fact, I'm not sure who actually uses the pen feature daily but I'm sure they exist.Coupled with the Magic Keyboard, it's my iOS go-to for ease-of-use if I'm sitting at my desk or on a stable/flat surface. However, the size difference between the 11 and 12.9 is something to behold. In the past, I held the older iPad Pro with 1 hand in bed or reclining on my office couch (when taking a break). The 12.9" is HUGE and it becomes tiring after a while. It is really heavy when coupled with the Magic Keyboard to nearly unusable on your lap.I thought Stage Manager would help me with multitasking ala my Windows computers and 2-in-1 Surface Book. Nope. Stage Manager is still a "work in progress" and it's not worth the learning curve and tweaking. I tried it for a week and turned it off completely.Plus - I'm getting a bit older and I've increased the size of the icons and text without feeling that I've lost space. It seems to be more energy efficient. Not as warm as the 11" version. It's bright! I can use it with the Magic Keyboard as a shield and weapon.Con - Weight and the virtual keyboard is too spaced out for ease of use. The Magic Keyboard weighs more than the iPad Pro itself. Stage Manager is gimmicky and not worth it.Is the iPad Pro necessary? If you don't actively use the pen (which I own but rarely use) and you don't really need the brighter screen (which is too bright at night of all things), stick with the 11" iPad Pro. Your wrists and hands will thank you.
