A handy tablet

A handy tool with some convenient improvements. My wife gave her father her tablet a few years ago so he could read news, do his banking, etc. At the time she found her phone sufficed for her needs. Over time she realized that a phone is not quite practical for some of her needs (cooking/reading a recipe while cooking; reading an e-book, watching a show). This tablet is significantly lighter than her old one and, obviously, faster. The USB-C charger is awesome. Sorry you got dragged into USB-C kicking and screaming, Apple, but we, the consumer, appreciate it. It's nice not have to hunt for a charger knowing the tablet charges off USB-C and we are awaiting the iPhone 15 and USB-C. The iPad Pro is a good size table at 12.9 inches, so it tends to be a little heavier and larger than many tablets however, that is not an issue for me. The graphics are outstanding, and the screen's clarity is very nice as well. A camera is an upgrade from previous models. The M2 chip is incredibly powerful and an upgrade over my previous model. This model has great battery life over my previous model which is a huge benefit in my view. The handy new Apple Pencil Hover feature is very cool and easy to use. The only downside is the placement of the camera, seems a little odd where it is located (seems a little off-centered) and you just have to get used to it but overall a great buy even if it is a little pricey. I can highly recommend this iPad

A full blown desktop class computer in your hand! I've had many different android and Apple tablets over the years, and this tablet is just awesome. The screen is huge and easy to read. You can do anything with this tablet, the M2 chip is crazy powerful. This is the best tablet on the planet, no doubt! Nothing else comes close. The battery lasts me more than a week, and I use it several hours a day. Mostly reading, social media, and watching the occasional television show. The tablet is definately not cheap, but you are also looking at a top of the line tablet. If you have the extra bucks to spend, and you want to go first class all the way, this is the tablet for you.

Let's be honest - the iPad Pro 11" hasn't really functionally changed since this design was introduced in 2018. Even the introduction of the M1 processor last year was kind of moot because, other than a very few professional edge cases, no one was sitting there waiting for things to get done with the previous CPUs. And in that context, the 2022 upgrade to the M2 is probably the least impactful improvement of all.Don't get me wrong - the iPad Pro is hands down the best all purpose tablet on the market. If nothing but the best will do - look no further. I got the 2022 model because my 2018 iPad Pro broke (I sat on it - oops), and with store credit and a discount and the free AppleCare through TotalTech - it was a deal I couldn't pass up.Now, the question of the ages - do I get the 11" or 12.9"? Consider these questions:* Are you a consumer or a creator? If you plan to spend you time on this editing videos or photos, doing music production, or sitting at a desk doing writing and spreadsheets - then the larger model may be better for you. For a consumer (browsing the web, checking email and messages, streaming music and video, doing social media) the 11" is perfect.* Is this a go-everwhere device - something you want always with you in your briefcase or backpack - so you can use at a moment's notice? Get the 11". The 12.9" is for people who take the tablet to a desk or table and then do work on it for a period of time. You don't use the 12.9" model in your hand(s) - you put it down on a surface and either type or use the pen.I got the 11" because I can easily hold it in one hand and either use my fingers or the pen to move around. I can be standing in line at the coffee shop, or sitting in a meeting at the office. It is unobtrusive and does not look and feel like you are carrying a MacBook screen around in your hands. But whichever model you get, I think for most people I would reccomend looking for a good deal on the M1 iPad Pro, and taking the money you save and buy a Magic Keyboard - a ridiculously overpriced acessory, but it will double the capability of the tablet.

How this iPad mended a broken heart
11 March 2023

My wife has the first generation iPad air, that came out 9.5 years ago. It was before the COVID-19 times, and that iPad had gotten quite a bit of mileage on it. It couldn't update, it struggled at updating until it would force close applications because it was too much. We had to put it down, and while we said our goodbye's I produced this iPad for her, an 11 inch iPad Pro. At first she hated me, asking the same thing any wife would ask, "Why do you waste money?" I just wanted her to be happy, but I understood, she was heartbroken. After just 5 minutes of powering up the iPad, setting it up from her phone backup settings, she instantly knew why. Sometimes it's better not to argue and prove a point, it's just better to upgrade.

Ignored the negative reviews, I’m quite happy.

Saw nothing but negative reviews on YouTube and the “enlightened” reviews mafia. Glad I ignored them. This is an amazing iPad. Yes, it’s not for people who just got last year’s model, but for those of us dipping a toe in today, it’s a fabulous piece of tech. I don’t want a MacBook. I don’t need/want a laptop. I want a quality tablet experience and content processor, and this does the job amicably. I’m a news hound, and this does magazines and news posts perfectly. In fact, I’ve noticed a lot of news sites set up their pages for all the crap ads on the sides and leave the main content alone with the larger tablet. It’s great for gaming, movies, and just about everything else I’ve thrown at it. For me, it’s been worth every penny.

Having said this the IPad has a charging port which is separate. If you look on the back of the iPad there are three little dots. Those dots connect up to the very expensive IPAD key board and it can charge the internal battery without the wear and tear. Why do they not have a charging device which does not cost an arm and a leg? So that’s my complaint. Spend this kind of money and let a wearable part used every day which will eventually break. Are the designers brain dead? So the right to repair is something APPLE is Fighting. They reluctantly will supple parts but each part is coded to a particular serial number. I guess this is progress. So would I ever not buy an IPad? Nope in this day and time I cannot see me not being connected. I love the operation and the ease of use. Apple is fighting on another front not to have the iPad replace their equally great laptops. So they are careful not to let the systems overlap too much. So if you use apple products you will pay in more ways than one. I do believe they make superior products.

My teenager loves it.
10 January 2023

My 15 yr old daughter was so happy to get this for Christmas. I also purchased the Magic Keyboard and the Pencil. I had a hard time choosing between this and a laptop, since she writes a lot of papers for school, but my daughter is artistic and enjoys that the iPad Pro can be both a laptop for school work as well as using the ProCreate app to learn how to create digital artwork. (She usually draws or paints). She of course also loves to FaceTime her friends that have iPhones since I stick with Samsung for cell phones. I decided to set her up her own apple i.d. so I wouldn't have to share my cloud storage with her. Been used every day since Christmas and worked perfectly with no complaints.

What an improvement from my fifth generation iPad
4 November 2022

Coming from a fifth generation iPad, it was hard to get used to not having the button at the bottom. Also other things to get used to with new iOS, like when I swipe up from the bottom, the taskbar pops up first, when I’m used to minimizing the screen first. So you kind of have to continue swiping to shrink your browser window, or search through apps, not sure if I’m explaining that clearly, but when you swipe up to get all the open windows and apps, and you can flick them up to make them disappear, that’s the function I’m talking about. I also IMMEDIATELY noticed this speaker, improvement, and how light weight and thin the unit is. Though it’s not the HDR screen the larger pro has, I think the quality is great, again a big improvement from my iPad fifth generation. ... MoreComing from a fifth generation iPad, it was hard to get used to not having the button at the bottom. I also IMMEDIATELY noticed this speaker, improvement, and how light weight and thin the unit is. Though it’s not the HDR screen the larger pro has, I think the quality is great, again a big improvement from my iPad fifth generation. It looks bigger than my iPad fifth generation, but it doesn’t feel any heavier or harder to hold. I have not bought the keyboard for it, but I’m thinking about it as it is seems from online reviews kind of handy to not drag my laptop inside or further taking out my laptop, plugging it in, and going through all that when this is always charged and in my room. I can swipe through emails, search the web, check out YouTube, social media, real estate, all very easily, while lying in bed without any discomfort. I added a slim shell case, as I don’t like those other cases that cover and prop up, and feel bulky holding while sitting in bed, or on the couch. Battery also last twice as long as my four or five year old fifth-generation. A dislike is the power down feature , though, I think I can fix that in settings, and screenshot doesn’t feel natural either. It’s set up where I pinch the top button and top volume button meaning I have to grab the top corner together with fingers on both hands and doesn’t feel easy to do in hand and I have to rest the tablet on my stomach to hold pressure while pressing. Old method better and more secure using the two palms of my hand on two opposite ends of the tablet made it much easier to hold without feeling like the tablet is gonna fly out of my hand, or fall on the ground. Also the old method was easy, either horizontally or vertically. I guess I have to get used to it if I can’t fix it in settings, which I know there are a few settings like that which I need to explore. So I’ve heard it before, and now I agree, Apple needs to bring back the button!!!

I wanted to larger form factor. My son uses a smaller iPad and loves it.I had a small problem when I first got the iPad which was probably my fault. I reported the problem to Apple and they had a tech rep call me several times until he got me on the phone. He spent about a half hour explaining why I had the problem and answering other questions. The iPad Pro 12.9" is certainly not cheap. But you pay a premium price and get a premium product.
