I bought the pro 12/19 core version with 16 gigs of RAM, which is essentially the same system as the 16 MacBook Pro that I have. To that end, I knew exactly what to expect. I learned quickly that the ability to do all the things in DaVinci Resolve was possible with this configuration, with plenty of computing breathing room. But I don't like to do a lot of long-form editing on the laptop because of hard drive space, so the Mini allows me to plug in silly fast NVMe drives via Thunderbolt 4. Scrubbing timelines is butter smooth, even with color grading and compositing. You need to pack in a few layers before you can really bog it down, but I imagine that for 95% of editing, you can enjoy it at full resolution without proxies. It was a toss-up between this and PC ... If you're an indie guy or work with small budgets, this is an easy decision.

The basic 8 Gb RAM / 256 Gb internal SSD M2 Mac mini is wicked fast.Boots up from dead-cold shutdown to fully operational in 10 seconds. Loads Adobe Lightroom and presents the last-selected image ready to further edit in 6 seconds.Adding a portable Samsung 1 Tb external SSD from B&H at today's price cost $79 - far less than Apple's charge for added storage memory. And since it's USB-C connected there is no lag when used as source in editing.Ignore the Youtube pontifications on the base model as compromised for speed and capacity. This thing flies!

This M2 Pro Mini (16GB / 1 TB) replaced a "family use" 2015 Intel iMac that was maddeningly slow - no matter what I did to improve it. I also have a Mac M1 Max Studio with 32GB etc etc. And this little Mini feels as fast; apps, photos, videos, (most) websites and documents seem to open as quickly. It's a bit slower on a number of Photoshop and Davinci routines, but at less than 1/2 the price of the Studio, it's entitled. As always, best performance is produced with native Mac OS versions of apps. (Avoid Rosetta.) And it's barely warm after heavy use. This is the best Apple and Mac value since I bought the first ones for our businesses in 1984!

This is the third Mac mini and my second Apple Silicon Mac. After two weeks of use, I can confidently say that this is the best out of all of the desktop Macs I have owned. The last desktop Mac was a 2017 5K iMac. I have this Mac mini connected to two LG Ultrafine 4K displays. It drives both of them very well. I can run Photoshop, and VMs running in Parallels Desktop easily without any fan noise. I don't notice any slow downs in the overall use of the system while running these high memory and high CPU/GPU apps. This thing is a real work horse. I highly recommend it.
I bought high-end iMacs all my life, however, ever since working remotely I switched to Windows with company laptop but other commitments kept me updating my iMac computer due to out-dated hardware/software incompatibilities. This time I decided to adopt the mac-mini and I am beyond satisfied. All my window peripherals work seamlessly, all my external storage devices mount properly. Also, I bought a HDMI 4K video switch to toggle my 37inch monitor between mac and windows it just works great. I added a 5 USB hub and suits me best. Performance is second to none, for less than half the cost of a iMac, you just cant buy anything out there that can match it, M2 chip is a total winner. I highly recommend it without any reservation.
As a multimedia producer who mainly does video shorts and photography, I was kind of skeptical of this base model since I came from using a suped-up PC with 32GB RAM and tons of hard drive space so I decided to read and watch a lot of online reviews. My setup is the Mac Mini M2 Pro with a Logitech K380 Mac keyboard, Logi Mac pebble mouse, and a 32 TCL HD TV as monitor.I can tell you after owning this little machine for a few weeks now they should have named it Mac Studio Jr. The base model here (16GB RAM and 512GB storage) hasn't been an issue here at all (I do use 1 and 2 GB external pro SSD drives). If anything it's probably just the right amount. The Mac Mini has stayed cool throughout all my endeavors and is blazing fast, even outdoing my old editing station. ... If anything it's probably just the right amount. The Mac Mini has stayed cool throughout all my endeavors and is blazing fast, even outdoing my old editing station. I mainly shoot 1080P for 2-10 minute video shorts, but it's handled multiple 4K video tracks effortlessly. I also bought the USB-C media reader from Apple for importing photos and video from my Sandisk cards.Blazing fast. I know I have made the right choice. Could not be happier and I am glad I made the move back to Apple.
Setup was eventful. The previous monitor cord from the 2012 Mac Mini could not resolve the video signal from the M2. It was a cable that converted the signal to HDMI. Therefore the set up was very difficult due to the crazy colors displayed on the monitor. So I had to go out and purchase a new monitor (HP). This worked fine and it made the setup easy. I then moved all of my wife's applications and files from a time machine backup of her old Mac Mini to the M2. This took several hours to accomplish, but she was very happy to see the desktop and everything looking exactly as her old mac. She says it is very speedy when starting up, and when opening applications. She very happy with the fact that websites she likes to frequent now open correctly as opposed to the 11 year old Safari Browser she was using. As far as I can tell she is quite happy with the new M2 based on zero complaints so far. She did comment on losing some of the applications she used to use. Apparently they were even too old for Rosetta Stone to deal with, but I did warn her of this before purchasing the M2. As for myself I am not really happy with only 2 USB ports. On is used by the keyboard and fortunately the keyboard has two ports on it so the cordless mouse uses one of those. For the Time Machine drive, SD Card Reader, and camera interface I had to install a USB hub in the remaining USB Port. There are Thunderbolt to USB hubs, but so far the setup is working fine, so the two Thunderbolt ports remain unused. I have never found anything that gets 5 stars, so four stars to me indicates that the M2 does everything we expected it to do, and there are no complaints, so far.
I've always wanted to try Mac and this little machine is excellent! Coming from Windows, there was a learning curve to use the Macintosh System, but overall I'm loving it. It really is a space saving machine and user friendly. When it comes to RAM (Random Access Memory), Mac uses RAM a little bit differently than Windows does. For probably 90% of people, the 8GB of RAM is great for most applications. It should handle schoolwork, email, streaming, and light video editing. (NOTE: I personally don't regularly edit videos) If you are planning on doing heavy video/photo editing, or even gaming (Windows is probably better equipped for gaming) you might want to consider the 16GB or 32GB RAM version of the Mac Mini. This is still a great computer. I'm a little tech enthusiast and bought this for my teenage daughter. After receiving the Mac Mini, I opened the device and installed a NVMe SSD adapter inside. Above the power connector, there's an empty slot that can fit said adapter (easy to find on eBay); a 500GB SSD from Kingston, new thermal paste, a good cleaning with compressed air and it's good to go. A total investment of ~$90 USD got me a more than decent desktop from Apple. The machine can be updated to MacOS Monterey and it feels very snappy for doing homework, office tasks, light photo editing, internet browsing, media consumption... It's not a powerhouse by any means but for the price, It's a far better option than any 2-in-1 Pentium BS computers sold out there. She ... MoreThis is still a great computer. CLAP. Mr. Cook, YES CHEF. Good for you. The Mac Mini M2 base is fuego. This computer, born in the fires of Cupertino, gives us so much. You click, it goes. It's that simple. All the base mini asks in return is for you, the consumer, to look in the mirror and be honest with who you really are. Are you a Microsoft Office, Zoom, Web, Mail, Calendar, YouTube, YouTube TV, GSuite normie? Yes? Then this is for you! You don't need 16GB of RAM (tumeric), you don't need fast read/write speeds (charcoal ice cream). Do you even swap, bro? No, you do not. Love the computer of your youth! Buy this base and don't look back. Thank you CHEF!
