On screen text is polished, out-of-the-box color accuracy is phenomenal, and the resolution is stunning---at an impressive 227 pixels per inch. This portable laptop is more than suited for content streaming, supporting FHD video @ 60hz. Operating System: macOSAs a computer developer, I work routinely in Windows, macOS, and several Linux distributions. In my opinion, macOS is the best operating system for the most people due to its versatility. It has a user-friendly GUI that feels smooth and crisp, making it accessible for even the most inexperienced computer users (my 80yo grandpa can use a mac no problem). At the same time, macOS takes full advantage of its roots as a UNIX operating system and provides an excellent terminal shell CLI in zsh. With developer tools enabled and the homebrew package manager, the macOS CLI feels quite familiar for those used to Linux CLIs. From computer geeks to grandparents, macOS is a great operating system for a wide variety of users. PerformanceI was skeptical of Apple's decision to move away from Intel processors at first, but I think the performance this Mac offers indicates that they made the right call. The Apple M1 SoC provides the power necessary for a wide array of applications. Programming on my Mac feels seamless, and for more than a year this computer was my primary machine for software development. I also create music using Logic Pro X, and the 16GB RAM model I own can run it no problem. The integrated graphics are surprisingly good, supporting tasks like content creation and gaming (I was able to consistently get 150fps in Minecraft with the default settings). Don't let the size fool you: this computer packs a punch.Portablility:The MacBook Air is advertised as being a portable system that can be used anywhere, and that has been true in my experience. Even after nearly two years, my computer's battery is at 93% of its original capacity and lasts for the entire day. From a full charge, I have programmed for 8 hours before needing to plug my computer in. Physically speaking, it is lightweight and compact when folded. Unlike my heftier ultrabook laptops, this computer is quite easy to tote around from place to place. I also personally like the feel and layout of the keyboard, and I prefer it to the updated keyboards on the newer Mac models. CONSPorts: Two Thunderbolt / USB-C 4 Ports and a headphone jackThis is my greatest issue with this laptop. While most machines come with at least a couple of USB ports, an SD card slot, an ethernet port and an HDMI port, this laptop lacks all of the above. The laptop used a USB-C charger, so while charging access is limited to strictly one port. In order to get the most out of this machine, you need to buy a separate type-c dongle that adds these extra ports externally.

If you want to experience significant upgrades in an apple computer, then the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is definitely the one to buy. It's one of the fastest and most cost-efficient choices for a computer where technology has come together to create a tremendous change in experience for laptop computer users. Between Apple's proprietary M1 chip that is fanless, solid state hard drive, retina screen display and upgraded sound system, an incredibly extended battery life before the need to recharge and much more, the new apple technology literally constitutes the wave of the future. The overall performance enhancements clearly put you in the driver's seat and establish considerable measurable distance from the previous evolution of computing in general. ... MoreIf you want to experience significant upgrades in an apple computer, then the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is definitely the one to buy. Literally every detail has been given attention to improvements with the end-user constantly in mind. Speed of processing is near instantaneous and regardless of software program complexity, the MacBook Air M1 simply sets it all in motion at blistering speeds. While some complain that apple products are costly, the advantages of becoming part of the apple technology environment makes it worth every penny. The seamlessness between apple products is yet again another favorable feature and whether for business or pleasure, you'll find yourself able to be completely connected throughout your array of apple devices. They've literally captured the market in our opinion because their focus upon technology and consumer needs is unparalleled by the competition. It's very safe to say that switching to the apple family of products means never having to look back because the company is constantly taking its consumers forward at an ever faster pace. You should also be on the lookout for the new M2 processing chip and related products that will be driven by it, many of which are projected to be out sometime this year. Very frankly, the experience of using our apple products on a daily basis is one that we look forward to with the complete confidence that we're interfacing with the technology around us using the best possible assets. We just purchased two MacBook Air M1 computers and the new iOS Mac iPad with the M1 chip. Together with our other apple products, we've moved well forward to the cutting edge of features and technology that we seek as consumers. Apple truly has assembled a winning team that has surrounded itself with a business model to produce absolute premier computers and other apple products capable of defining innovation in a way no other company can achieve. Throughout our entire experience with apple products since 2011, we've never once encountered problems. Not once, and it represents a shining example of quality control, attention to detail and the constant look well forward into what consumers need most in technology and reliability. Based upon our experience, just as Microsoft had taken the market by storm with windows very early on, Apple is well on its way to completely ruling the computer and communications environment because it not only continues to surprise and satisfy with the latest technology but also the most innovative as well. Without any hesitation, we grant apple products 5 stars.

I don't tend to use Apple products outside of Apple TV and iPad Pros. I have had MacBooks provided by my employers in the past so I'm at least able to navigate MacOS OK, but I wanted something to really experiment with without worrying about ruining company equipment.I'm used to using heavier gaming laptops with larger screens, so this feels almost like a toy. It's incredibly light, has what I would consider insane battery life and is... fine. I've been looking around for apps or uses that Macs are outstanding at (and yes, I realize it's an Air and not a Pro) but so far the only application I've used where it noticeable outperforms any of my Windows laptops is with Ableton Live 11. There is no noticeable lag using my MIDI keyboards and controllers, where with my ... MoreI don't tend to use Apple products outside of Apple TV and iPad Pros. I've been looking around for apps or uses that Macs are outstanding at (and yes, I realize it's an Air and not a Pro) but so far the only application I've used where it noticeable outperforms any of my Windows laptops is with Ableton Live 11. There is no noticeable lag using my MIDI keyboards and controllers, where with my Windows laptops it's not possible to record live without turning off the speakers because the lag is so bad.The interoperability with my iPad Pro is pretty impressive. I haven't really dug into what's possible yet, but have used my iPad as a second display and the setup is simple and seamless.I'm still trying to dig into use cases for this MacBook vs my windows laptops and there aren't many. It's not capable of being a primary gaming system, though it can easily handle some of the less intensive Mac-compatible games I have on Steam. I may be using it as my primary music recording/producing system going forward, though. And it's so light and capable enough that I can easily see using this first when I go on vacation or just want a laptop with me to use at a cafe or wherever.I suspect my initial rating may change with more use and my limited experience with Macs in general makes it difficult for me to evaluate the M1 chip. Bottom line, I'd say if portability is your highest priority and you don't need high performance for gaming or intensive creative work, it's pretty decent. Though you could probably get by with a Windows laptop for half the price for general computing.

The MacBook Air only has two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, which may be limiting for some users who need to connect multiple peripherals simultaneously. Additionally, while the M1 chip provides excellent performance, it may not be compatible with certain older software programs.Overall, the MacBook Air is an excellent choice for people who value portability, sleek design, and reliable performance. Its long battery life and powerful M1 chip make it a standout option in the laptop market.

Great laptop for everyday task, OS issue

I bought this as a student a year ago now and it has been one of the most useful things for me. I don't worry about a charger I just remember to charge and I will make it through the day unless I'm doing something really heavy. It is light and sleek, making it very easy to carry. It can multitask really well with plenty of power to be used.I have not personally tested it for video/photo editing but I have seen and heard that it can handle it with ease. Even a year later the design and chip still hold up well. I prefer the slight slant on it to a complete square like the new M2 MBA or 14/16 inch M1 Pro lineup. Its very comfortable.I have found that people can always hear me clearly through the mics. Its very comfortable.I have found that people can always hear me clearly through the mics. They sound quite well and I have used them many times for a video call without headphones. The speakers also sound very nice and can get loud enough for any use I can think of.The screen is great. The resolution provides a very clear and sharp picture. My one issue (and the reason I only rated the screen itself 4/5) is that the glass used for it, while high quality, does tend to pick up dust, hair, or any other small contaminate you can imagine, often from the lower body and keyboard and will just appear on the screen. Additionally, the glass picks up finger prints any time its touched, which includes the bezels that I find I will end up touching whenever I close, open, or adjust the lid. This is a very speedy laptop. When running an app that's been optimized for it, the app will run very smoothly and clean. The response is instantaneous. Any optimized app will open basically instantly, and even unoptimized ones can still do it fairly quickly. The Achilles heel of the laptop though is the OS. Mac OS is a great thing that has provided for a lot of great things once you learn to use it, but the lack of software support makes it difficult to use certain apps, most prominently, games. I can for sure say that this laptop has the power to run a lot of bigger games at the base configuration. But the OS itself is in the way. Apple needs to begin better optimizing the software for games, as well as other windows programs. Coming from a windows PC, I feel very limited as I look around at all of the programs I cant use. While there is often an equivalent that is better optimized for Mac, there are many that dont have an option.

Macbook Air M1 - 512gb

MacBook Air 2022 is perfect for students. Students can study different courses, this can go from economics to computer science. The laptop is suitable for any course that a student can follow. I do computer science and I notice that the MacBook can run several applications at the same time, and this is a very big advantage over old Windows computers. But also, for students studying economics. For example, the MacBook can easily work with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and much more at the same time.M1 Small chip. Immense progress. I think that the brand new M1 processor made by Apple itself is one of the biggest upgrades to the new MacBooks. In the previous models, Apple used the intel processors that are also in the old Windows computers, but in the new MacBook this is no longer the case. Personally, I notice that the Macbook stays much cooler during heavy downloads, and it also stops making noise. I also noticed that the processor could open apps much faster. In my opinion, I find the completely new design of the MacBook Air 2022 very astonishing! The design is made by different metals and glasses that ensure the Macbook will not brake after a little fall. I take the MacBook to school every day and I notice that the metals in the design of the MacBook make the laptop last much longer, especially when we talk about the outside of the laptop. The design also fits 100% with the rest of Apple's products, the MacBook comes in 3 different colors that perfectly matches with the latest iPhones and iPads. Finally, I recommend this product to anyone, especially college students. This product is also 100% suitable for people who are involved in large projects in their daily lives, such as photographers or architects, especially because the MacBook contains the M1 processor that can handle a lot without unexpected annoying bugs.“Power. It’s in the Air.” MacBook Air with M1 is an incredibly portable laptop — it’s nimble and quick, with a silent, fanless design and a beautiful Retina display. Thanks to its slim profile and all‑day battery life, this Air moves at the speed of lightness.

I have had this laptop for 2 years now and I can still say with total confidence that it's a good buy in 2023. This laptop will last the average person until 2030 if not longer. That's a ridiculous value for the total cost of ownership, so all that's left for you to decide is this: Is this laptop capable of doing everything you need it to do?Even though it's 2 years old and the lowest spec'd and cheapest laptop Apple currently sells, I think for 99% of people the answer is YES! The M1 chip is up to some crazy witchcraft. That's the only way to explain how the battery lasts so long, how the computer is so fast, and how portable it is.Don't worry about the 8GB memory, it's enough for almost everyone. Storage might be a different story. If you need more than 256GB, I highly recommend buying a portable SSD. It's way more cost effective than upgrading the internal storage.Compared to Windows laptops that cost the same, this computer is remarkably premium. The display is excellent, the keyboard and trackpad are some of the best in any laptop ever, and even the speakers are pretty good. The all aluminum construction is very durable and looks great. There are better laptops on the market but they all cost significantly more than this one. If you are not playing a lot of new video games and you don't need to use applications that only work on Windows, and you don't need a bigger screen (or a touchscreen), this is probably the right laptop for you.

Premium Performance in a Small Package
8 November 2022

I needed to upgrade my 2017 MacBook Pro and recently got into shooting and editing video. Knowing I needed more horsepower than what I had traditionally purchase-a middle of the road graphic design setup-I sprung for a top-of-the-line M1 Max build with a 13 screen. I also have a larger, 16 model as a work-issued computer, and I have to say I don't notice an exponential difference with the larger display. I usually keep my laptop plugged into an external monitor at home but like the portability a laptop offers when needed. Even if you just use the screen of the laptop as your main display, I would still recommend saving a few bucks and going with the 13. I like to keep my laptop in a padded sleeve inside of my backpack for extra protection while traveling and the extra size of the 16 gets to be unwieldy. Even without the extra protection, the smaller platform will travel better and more easily fit into most backpacks than the larger 16 model. The new M1 Max chip hasn't disappointed and screams through footage way faster than my previous machine. Thank you Apple for bringing back all the ports thus streamlining the download of footage and photos while on the go without the need for another dongle or adapter. Overall, a solid upgrade over previous models.

a rare example of great value from apple

Purchased the M1 base model (8/256gb) at a steeply discounted price than what the Apple Store sells it at. in short, this is the best possible value you can get from ANY currently sold apple device, bar none - and I'm not exaggerating!it's got a great CPU that's also found in the iPad pros but it's cheaper than the 12.9" models, it's got more SSD space than closely priced iPads, and the M2 models don't really offer much over this model other than thinner bezels, new design and the return of MagSafe. it has far more portability than the MacBook pros which are always too heavy, it has the same specs as the iMac m1 but can go anywhere... I mean it frankly makes apple look silly to have even introduced the M2 MacBook Airs and M2 iPad pros...the M1 is still ... MorePurchased the M1 base model (8/256gb) at a steeply discounted price than what the Apple Store sells it at. in short, this is the best possible value you can get from ANY currently sold apple device, bar none - and I'm not exaggerating!it's got a great CPU that's also found in the iPad pros but it's cheaper than the 12.9" models, it's got more SSD space than closely priced iPads, and the M2 models don't really offer much over this model other than thinner bezels, new design and the return of MagSafe. it has far more portability than the MacBook pros which are always too heavy, it has the same specs as the iMac m1 but can go anywhere... I mean it frankly makes apple look silly to have even introduced the M2 MacBook Airs and M2 iPad pros...the M1 is still excellent.8gb memory is fine as far as I can see, stop using Chrome and use Safari and you'll see less swap memory issues. Best of all the fanless design is a game changer, use it in bed on your fluffiest pillow and it won't suffocate and overheat. battery life seems very good, I have not had the chance to drain it fully yet.in fact I would argue that no Windows based laptop comes close to the overall package, and this is coming from a windows fanboy since version 3.11 - fanless, instant wake/sleep, great memory/cpu management, and next to zero bloatware. to get the same level of performance I'd have to get an i7 cpu and atleast 16gb of RAM, and those are easily double the price of this base-model MacBook Air. fine, the 256 gb SSD is a bit small and at that price range you'll probably get a 1tb SSD standard in an i7-equipped PC, but I would argue it's a terrible idea to have so much data in a device that can easily be stolen/water-damaged/dropped (backups, people. use them!!)I think this offers far, far more value than a M1/M2 iPad Pro, M2 MacBook Air, M1/M2 MacBook Pros and M1 iMac with the same specs and if you are in the market for a device to do most average daily computing tasks, this is the best deal you can get.
