5 Stars if you get this laptop on sale. I use this computer for basic video editing, and as a bonus video games like Grid Legends and American Truck Simulator at it’s highest settings with no problems. You still will need 16GB for some AAA games to run right on this machine. Great 120htz mini lcd screen, speakers, and it’s selection of ports makes this a pro laptop. Not to mention an external fan that keeps this laptop from throttling to much. 8GB is enough for me, but if your using this laptop to make money, I suggest you step up to the M3 Pro chip Macbook pro because this a great student laptop, but not so much a perfesional every day video editing machine. However, you can edit 4K videos with no problem, but the speeds to upload videos will be a little bit slower ... More5 Stars if you get this laptop on sale. I have no problems with the ram, and I am extremely happy with this purchase, but me suggestion to you is to buy the base model on sale. Again great 120htz mini lcd display, speakers, and port selection makes this a pro laptop with thunderbolt 3. If you want thunderbolt 4 you will have to step up to the M3 Pro chip which gives you an extra thunderbolt port on that laptop.

You wouldn't know it from the reviews of this page alone but this specific MacBook Pro model is a little controversial. And that's not because this laptop is inherently bad. It's far from it.For $1600, what buyers will receive is a fancier MacBook Air. They use the same processor (except the two added GPU cores) with the same base memory configuration. The added benefit you'll receive for the extra $500 above the base model M3 MacBook Air is the perks that come with the Pro chassis. This product, however, exists to please a small niche that most people won't fit within. If you're in the market for a thin and light notebook to watch movies and listen to music, take notes, web browse, and use office productivity software, the MacBook Air lineup simply makes more sense. It's low power and efficient but is more capable enough to handle the computing tasks most people will need. It also has enough headroom for anyone looking to dip their toes into media creation whether it be basic video and photo editing or music production. You'll probably scrape by doing light coding as well.Let's say you're a professional creator though. You'll want a laptop that is capable enough to keep up with multiple dozens of browser tabs open whilst you edit 4k+ footage or large image files, work on 3d models, code, graphic design, large DAW files, and maybe even a little gaming. This laptop simply won't do the job. While the M3 chip is very capable, it's ultimately held back by the base 8GB memory configuration, which, to most people who work in software that'll eat lots of RAM, is nothing. The extra horsepower provided by the M3 Pro and M3 Max models of MacBook Pro combined with much more reasonable base memory configurations simply makes more sense to the power user.Neither storage nor memory is user upgradable. What you buy is what you will have for the foreseeable future of the MacBook. I wouldn't recommend going onto the Apple website and configuring this with more memory either. Just one or two upgrades will already push the cost of this MacBook to the same price as the 14" M3 Pro MacBook Pro, which, at its starting configurations, vastly outweighs the value and performance of the M3 MacBook Pro.Like I said at the beginning of the review, this laptop is not bad. It's really good and I think for the people whose niche that'll fit, they'll likely love it. Like with most MacBooks however, I'd maybe wait on a sale for this one.$1600 for a laptop with such a strong memory bottleneck is a little dubious, however, if you can catch it on sale at around $1400, which is what the price of this laptop is when it goes on sale at Best Buy, that only makes it $100 more than the 15" MacBook Air. If you were already in the market for one of those laptops, this might be a good consideration. For the tradeoff of a slightly smaller screen, you'll find that it's immediately a better value than the 15" at that price. You'll get a better display, ports, speaker, etc. not to mention double the base storage which Apple already charges $200 for.

Either way, make sure you check it side-by-side with another top spec 14 inch (I did) before deciding whether it's ok.To be clear, the screen was still not bad and everything else was "almost" standard macbook pro level. The speakers sounded great, it was light and solid, and it is even a smidge lighter than the higher-spec 14 inch models. While the 8gb did better than expected, I still hit bottlenecks.Overall, I went with a higher spec model when it was on sale and I still think that's the better deal. People are whining about this being overpriced and a bad value, when the laptop it replaces (13” MacBook Pro Touch Bar) with the same 8GB/512GB of storage retailed for $1499. So for $100 more (than the outgoing model), you gain a better mini-LED display with 2-3x the brightness (1000 nits sustained, 1600 peak), higher pixel pixel density (sharper) and ProMotion (120Hz adaptive refresh rate); better battery life; more ports (HDMI, SD) and MagSafe charging which frees up a Thunderbolt/USB 4; better webcam (1080p vs. 720p); High-fidelity six-speaker sound with force-cancelling woofers (vs. stereo speakers previously) and improved Bluetooth 5.3/WiFi 6E. M3 enables hardware-accelerated ray tracing which aids with video editing and provides a CPU performance gain of 15-20% (depending on single or multi-core benchmark). For people crying foul - they literally cut the 256GB and increased the price by $100 for all the before-mentioned upgrades. Best Buy frequently runs sales on these anyways so right now it’s dropped down to just $100 more than the 256GB that it’s replacing. People seemingly want something for nothing and news flash - everything is overpriced - it’s called having profit margins in a product. And if it wasn’t overpriced companies wouldn’t be around because no one can successfully operate a business in the red. Now that we’ve established common sense - buy it or don’t but stop whining about everything, respectfully.
Lately I was struggling with my old MacBook Pro that I have had for several years. I maxed it out LOL. When I got this new MacBook Pro I couldn’t believe the difference. The speed, memory, resolution, sturdiness, size of screen and on and on and on make this perfect for my needs. I quilt, so lots of patterns and pics are stored. The finger touch for access is such a helpful option. There is so much more for me to learn about this and I’m excited about the challenge. The photos organization sounds incredible AND I have lots and lots of photos. I was looking and the MacBook Air and the Pro. I didn’t trust the Air was what I would be comfortable with but the Pro was more expensive. Thanks to my hubby who thought I should have the Pro I am incredibly elated with ... I don’t like to change out frequently.I hope what I have commented helps others feel good about making a choice to get this unit.
Absolutely love my new MacBook! I consider myself fairly tech-savvy, but what I always appreciate about Apple products is that they just work right out of the box with minimal setup and little fuss. With just a few clicks the transfer assistant had my data from my old MacBook migrated over with ease. This was a big upgrade for me since I was coming from a late 2019 Intel Macbook Pro with only 8GB of RAM. I tend to use a lot of tabs in Safari, while simultaneously working in multiple Adobe Creative Cloud apps, a VMWare virtual Machine, and occasionally SketchUp. While my previous laptop would begrudgingly (slowly) support that workflow, it was increasingly obvious that 8GB of RAM wasn't sufficient for my needs. As for the seller, they were great. Everything went smooth and the order arrived on time without issue. As for the product... There's no arguing that Apple makes a solid computer with a steady and consistent OS, but their underlying anti-consumer market strategy and general spirit of pretentiousness make me cringe a bit when buying, or considering to buy one of their products. That being said, while the price is a bit high, the MacBook is still a good machine.Just be aware that this laptop only comes equipped with 2 usb type-c ports and a headphone jack. I think they could have easily added at least 2 more of these ports; especially since there are no standard usb ports, but that's par for the course when it comes to Apple's current offerings. I think they could have easily added at least 2 more of these ports; especially since there are no standard usb ports, but that's par for the course when it comes to Apple's current offerings. This means that for any traditional storage device including sd, micro sd, USB drives, etc., you will need a peripheral adapter device, sold separately of course, in order to use them. Also true for any other device/ peripheral (such as a wireless mouse or keyboard dongle) that doesn't directly connect via type-c usb.All in all, the MacBook is light, slim, and easy to carry, making it convenient for on-the-go work or study. And if you can't live without the mac OS, this is the way to go. However, just be aware that there are more affordable windows-based machines on the market that match and even exceed the power and portability of the MacBook series of laptops. Shop around and do some homework before committing.
I recently purchased this MacBook Pro to replace my previous one, which finally started to show its age after over a decade. So far, the M3 hasn't broken a sweat. The build and finish are exactly what you would expect from Apple, and I've yet to find any complaints. If you do any work in creative outlets, this is a great laptop to look into. I would also note that I'm a huge fan of the braided covering on the power cord, a massive improvement over the coating of older models.
For most users, this will probably be sufficient. With AppleCare+ and using the Mac for regular web browsing, email and probably very light multimedia use and office tasks, you should not experience inadequate performance and have a good peace of mind with warranty coverage (because surprise! Macs can and do fail). However, as other reviewers have noted, the value proposition here is minimal. Why? If you really need/want a Mac, the tasks that I mentioned would be done very well by a Macbook Air that is regularly discounted to half the price of this Macbook Pro here at Best Buy. “Pro” users definitely need more than 8GB of RAM and I would even argue more than 512GB of SSD storage. Apple knows this will sell though (and it will) to unsuspecting users. Please assess what your needs really are before purchasing this. You could be making a terrible (and expensive) mistake. I and many others are really not sure who this Mac would really legitimately cater to since it’s not exactly a true “Pro” device. Perhaps it might be for casual users who just really hate the Macbook Air? If you want to do “Pro” tasks on this device, you WILL see performance degredation due to swapping because of there only being 8GB of RAM.
Traded in my Macbook Air M1 in for this Pro! As for the 8gb of RAM, this model is perfectly fine for most people not doing serious heavy lifting. I've experienced no memory issues or Apple beach balls while doing all the normal daily things most people do. If you're on the fence about the RAM, I'd recommend watching Austin Evans' youtube video about this exact model. That might useful for you!Couldn't be happier ...
