Overall, I am blown away by the ecosystem, and the performance that comes with the 2018 Macbook Pro. The device itself is elegant and refined. There is some discussions ongoing about thermal throttling and keyboard issues that may arise due to dust or debris getting inside the membrane underneath each key. I have yet to experience any of these issues. I have given the MacBook Pro 4 stars instead of 5 due to the potential lingering problems that may pop up in the future. It does appear to be a legitimate concern for most users, and it certainly has been a common issue. I upgraded from a 2012-era MBPr to this model, 15" touchbar. I love the faster CPU, faster disk, longer battery life, but overall it's been a fair let down. The track pad area has gone from too small to massive; I touch it while typing all the time, which causes the mouse to jump around on the screen, possibly resulting in changing window focus. The touch bar is obnoxious for anyone that uses the escape key frequently; you have no idea if it's registered the touch or not, since it literally is like typing on a hard plastic sheet. The actual keyboard is not much better than a hard plastic sheet; the keys move very little and if you use a mechanical keyboard on your desktop, then move to this, you'll just be slamming the keys, very loudly I would add. With the ports ... MoreI upgraded from a 2012-era MBPr to this model, 15" touchbar. The back-lit Apple logo is also gone, so good luck determining if the unit has actually powered off. I've had to resort to manually selecting suspend, or using a suspend button I've added to the touch bar, to perform that task before closing the lid, and it still occasionally continues running, which means I pull out a hot dead laptop a few hours later when I get to my destination. It's a good laptop, but not great; wish there was a mixture of 2012 and 2017, where track pad is in between, old keyboard returns, throw in the old power connector and a single USB-A port, give me an escape key.

Laptop arrived in rough shape (wouldnt call it very good with big scratches and dents) with blown speakers and a malfunctioning keyboard. Then I had to pay $50 in return shipping to send it back for replacement even though I was sold a bad MacBook. I understand that things can have issues miss inspections and need to be exchanged. I also understand paying to ship back something if I changed my mind. What I dont understand is why I have to pay more money out of pocket for being sold a bad laptop.

This was a graduation gift for a high schooler going to college. He is very excited about the macbook and carries it everywhere. On those rare occasions when he is not at home and does not have his macbook with him, his niece seeks and uses it (against his wishes). She says it makes her feel "rich". I would say this is a great value all around. Apple now has 2 new converts.
This was my first MacBook being a windows user mainly for over 20 years. After using it for a little while, I can say that this is a very solid well built together product. The materials used are very premium and strongly put together with everything working as it should with no creaks or out of place sounds. The retina display is one of the best I’ve ever seen with vibrant colors and deep blacks that mimic an almost OLED type experience on the screen showing how Apple harnessed the best engineering techniques to display the best picture on their LCD panel. The Touch Bar is perfectly in sync with the keyboard and adapts without delay to whatever program is currently running. The glass feels super smooth and it is instantly responsive when selecting an option or scrolling on it. It is configurable and I find myself using the Touch Bar more often then actually using the trackpad and selecting the function I need to use on the mouse as it saves way more time even with system level controls such as adjusting the volume or adjusting the brightness of the display. It is an OLED strip display so the true black level it can display makes it a pleasure to witness at night. My MacBook shipped with macOS High Sierra and it is an absolute pleasure to use. With built-in included features out of the box such as iMessage, Facetime Video & Audio Calling, and an optional upgrade to WiFi calling in settings (if your cellular carrier supports it), it makes using my MacBook way more convienent as I can basically use all the main functions of my iPhone while multitasking on my Mac, negating the need of having to take my eyes off the computer completely to reach over to my phone to disturb the flow of work being done. Speed is delivered through Intel’s excellent processors (my model is the quad core i7 3.1GHz) and the 16GB of ram lets the MacBook keep a ton of programs all running perfectly. The stereo speakers are phenomal and one of the best setups I have ever heard! Superb product!
I. figured that since it was just refurbished, it would be in good. working order. WRONG. It keeps. inserting periods, like you see here. It won't connect to my wifi. at work, even though the. wifi works for. EVERYONE. ELSE. Won't play certain videos. It's really screwing up my work life.

I have been using PC's at home and at work for many years and was worried that I would struggle with a new operating system but the software is very intuitive and I had the machine fully operational right out of the box.... and what a machine! Beautiful design and solid construction make it a pleasure to use. The battery life is stunning and the screen resolution is truly amazing. I was concerned that going from my 24" monitor on my PC to a small 15" laptop would be prohibitive but I have not had any problems with real estate and have found it very easy to use the track-pad as an input device for basic photo editing. The tricky little 'power bar" or whatever it's called, is still a bit of a novelty item to me but I keep forgetting to use its options! As I become more familiar with the machine, I'm sure I will utilize it more. I do like the fingerprint recognition option for logging in...that is very cool tech.I keep discovering more and more clever little tidbits-bits within the Mac software and I must confess, I am not missing the Windows OS one bit. I like to think that I am more protected by using Mac OS but I am working with a trial subscription to BitDefender security software and will probably add that full time in a few weeks. It seems to be a very reliable piece of kit and doesn't affect operating speed at all.All in all, I am really happy with this purchase and once again received excellent retail service at my local Best Buy. I made sure to visit the store on a weekday afternoon when the staff were not so busy and was able to spend quality time with a sales assistant to get my questions answered. It looks like we are an Apple family now!
If you're reading this review chances are you have already researched the MacBook Pro on Apple's website and/or other places, so I won't go through every single spec and feature of the computer, but I do want to highlight a few things *I* really do and don't like about it.First, the famed Touchbar. Is it essential? Probably not. But it's cool, and not just the flashy "look what this computer can do" kind of cool, but actually a USEFUL cool -- if only in certain apps. It actually creeped me out a bit at first because it seemed to be reading my mind. It actually creeped me out a bit at first because it seemed to be reading my mind. In case you're not aware, the Touchbar is a strip of glass just above the keys on the keyboard which lights up with various "buttons" depending on what app you're using. It's also where the "function" keys live (hold down the Fn button and they magically appear). Unfortunately it doesn't work with all apps -- for example, if you like to use Chrome as your browser you're out of luck. When using Safari, though, it's nice to see small previews of the pages you have open. So while I use the Touchbar more than I thought I would, I can't say I would miss it terribly if it disappeared.Second, the display. It's really a beautiful screen. I don't watch movies on my computer, but even just for web browsing and watching videos online I can notice a significant improvement in brightness and clarity compared with my previous Macbook (from 3 years ago).Third, the trackpad is enormous and wonderfully responsive. Unlike my previous Mac, I don't feel like I'm constantly running out of room when dragging my fingers across it. Seems like a little thing, but it makes a big difference!Fourth, the battery life is fantastic, at least for my amount of use. Admittedly I don't use this non-stop all day long, nor do I watch movies on it, but I only have to charge it once per day, and that's more than I can say for my previous Macbook. While the Touchbar is new and the graphics and speed are improved over previous generations, when it comes to overall design, features, and function I can't say this Macbook marks a radical departure from its predecessors. It's still iOS, the apps appear about the same, and the overall "Apple feel" is unchanged. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as I don't like it when companies change things just for the sake of change. But if you're purchasing this to replace a slightly older Macbook, just know that the overall experience will be familiar. So far the only thing I do NOT like about this computer is how warm it gets. Apple makes a big deal about the internal cooling mechanism, and while I'm sure the cooling technology is sophisticated, the reality is that the computer still gets pretty toasty, particularly on the underside. I point this out because the advertising hype led me to believe that this computer was somehow immune to becoming warm (a testament to the power of Apple's marketing!), but in reality that's not quite the case. This shouldn't be a deal breaker. but I wouldn't plan to have this on your lap for long periods of time.Bottom line: Even though this MacBook Pro isn't loaded with lots of new features and functions, I can't find much to complain about. Speed, power, battery life, and capabilities are all rock solid. And that's what's most important, right?
When I first got this computer, I thought to myself wow. It was beautiful, and I was impressed with the bigger touchpad and touch bar. I upgraded from a fully loaded 2011 MBP, only because the motherboard died on the old one. When I first used the new computer, I was instantly frustrated with the touchbar. I would accidentally hit it while typing, and it would mess up whatever I was working on. Oh well I thought, it will go away after my fat fingers get used to it. Fast forward a few months, and it is still a pain to work with. So many times, I wish I had the old key layout. The touchbar is requires so much extra time, because of the second step added for all of my shortcuts, not to mention the accidental touch that shoots you to a different page or program. The touchbar is requires so much extra time, because of the second step added for all of my shortcuts, not to mention the accidental touch that shoots you to a different page or program. It doesnt seem like much at first, but it adds up. Another big issue I have is the lack of any port besides USB C. USBC is great is all of your peripherals connect that way, but it sucks if you have to use a dongle. USBC is not the most rigid connection, and tends to be on the loose side. Not a good thing when the slightest movement ejects the adapter, and cuts off an external hard drive while transferring. The touchpad is something Im still on the fence about. While I like the larger size, I miss the more pronounced click of the older versions. Makes it more difficult to select multiple items or drag and drop. Not a huge deal, and maybe Im being too wistful? The only saving grace is the computers speed and processing performance. I never feel like I am starved for power, even when I am editing 4K video. In reality, maybe this computer is a higher rating, but I want people to be drawn to the 1 star rating, so they can get an idea of the possible frustrations. By the way, I have accidentally hit the touch bar 3 times while typing this review, and have lost most of what I have typed. A learned habit on this computer is to copy whatever youre typing every minute or so, so you dont lose all of your work.
This was a easy purchase. it only took 3 days for it to arrive and it was in excellent condition. There were no marks or scratches on the macbook. There was one issue with the power adapter, but after zapping the PRAM that was taken care of. I would have given this a 5 star review. Except that I ordered the 1TB version. Once I got the Macbook and found out that it was only 500GB. I contacted the seller and they discovered that there was no 1TB models in stock and all they could offer was a return and refund. I asked if there was more or someone else to speak too. They did look into it and said I wanted to keep the laptop they could offer a $60 refund against the overall price. I would like to have had them contact me first and tell me that they did not have the model I ordered but could do the other model without me having to find out on my own. That is why I cant give a 5 star. But maybe a 4 1/2 star.
