The App Store also offers a wide range of apps and games, which adds to the overall entertainment experience. One of the standout features of the Apple TV is its ability to stream content in high definition. Whether I'm watching movies, TV shows, or live sports, the picture quality is always sharp and vibrant. The device also supports Dolby Atmos sound, which adds to the immersive experience. The Apple TV's integration with other Apple devices is also a major plus. I can easily stream content from my iPhone or iPad to the device, which is great for sharing photos or videos with friends and family. The device also supports AirPlay, which allows me to mirror my screen onto the TV for presentations or sharing content with a group. One potential downside of the Apple TV is the lack of support for some popular streaming services, such as Amazon Prime Video. However, the device's integration with iTunes and Apple Music more than makes up for this. Overall, I highly recommend the Apple TV 4th Generation 32 GB to anyone looking for a high-quality streaming device that offers a seamless entertainment experience. With its sleek design, easy-to-use interface, and impressive features, it's the perfect choice for anyone who wants to take their entertainment setup to the next level.

A big step-up from Samsung's Tizen

We have been suffering a slow system in out 2018 Q9FN Samsung for a while now, with crashes and hangs that don't seem to improve with updates. So I decided rather than to update the TV - the panel is fine - I'd get a set-top box.The Apple TV is a winner for anyone already within that ecosystem - you have access to your music and photos instantly, for one - but even if you're not, it's super fast, bug-free and has excellent streaming quality, particularly from Apple's own apps. Outside of those, it pretty much has everything, and if you're trying to get rid of an aerial/satellite dish, there's even a great live TV app (3rd party) that does everything a normal TV would do.There's often sales on great movies as well, if you can't find everything you like streaming ... MoreWe have been suffering a slow system in out 2018 Q9FN Samsung for a while now, with crashes and hangs that don't seem to improve with updates. You can't go wrong with The Untouchables at £3.99 if you ask me.There's also games that run reasonable well and can connect to most bluetooth controllers.Physically it's an undemanding black box that's extremely easily hidden away. The controller is metal and lightweight - but perhaps my only strike against it is that little circle pad. It can be a little too sensitive, particularly when using it to scroll around video. So if you're happy with your TV but not so happy about its performance, the Apple TV might be more expensive than its peers but it's cheaper than a new panel and, after using the others, much smoother as an experience.

Apple EARNS 5-stars the old fashioned way!

AppleTV, in this instance their latest/greatest Gen. 3, 4K version, once again hits the ball out of the park in Grand Slam homer fashion. The picture clarity is stunning, especially when one considers most forums are streamed via less-than-ideal WiFi conditions. A hardwired Ethernet connector is provided for those fortunate enough to have that superior form of network throughput.I love the option to standardize the main menu screen among other AppleTVs under the same roof. That way wherever you are and whatever you’re viewing—at any given moment—can be stopped and picked up where you left off in another room without the hassle of searching for the same app.Although I personally don’t use the Siri Remote feature, the new metal body handheld remote allows that ... MoreAppleTV, in this instance their latest/greatest Gen. 3, 4K version, once again hits the ball out of the park in Grand Slam homer fashion. The look and feel of the new and improved remote puts earlier versions to shame! There is one thing lacking I wish it had: an optical audio output. Being able to connect digital audio directly to a separate sound system is very handy as well as providing the best HiFi sound in stereo or Surround (Dolby) Sound. Thankfully my television has a digital audio output jack which works.All-around, Apple has earned a 5-star review and a hearty BRAVO from this reviewer.

Good for Apple users

Full disclosure, I’m an Apple junkie, so consider that when reading this review. If you are not part of the Apple ecosystem (have an icloud account, have an iPhone), you might want to consider something cheaper, like a Roku, as an alternative. The device is just about what you would expect from any streaming device. You connect to an App Store (the Apple one in this case) and you download the apps for the services you subscribe to (Netflix, Hulu, etc). The Apple TV does have the, at first, slightly confusing Apple TV app. This app basically tries to create a single point of access that looks at all the things you are watching in various apps, so that you can just access what you’ve been watching from the single place instead of going straight to the app that has ... MoreFull disclosure, I’m an Apple junkie, so consider that when reading this review. Even as an Apple fanboy, I struggle to really find the usefulness of this function. Also the Apple TV app should not be confused with Apple Tv+, the excellent streaming service, which lives as a sub component of the Apple TV app. Note that you can now get AppleTv+ on most other streaming devices at this point. You can also view your icloud pictures and videos on the device if you sign in with your iCloud account. The remote is the big weakness of this device. In the last two iterations of this device, the remote has gone from atrocious to better, but still a little crappy. Personally I prefer a remote that lets me have a solid grasp on it, and lets me toss it to someone else. To do this, the remote needs to be a decent size. The AppleTV remote is tiny. Yo make matters worse, the remote has a touchpad on it. So the user is always accidentally doing unintentional things on the screen because of the almost unavoidable and highly sensitive touchpad. And forget about tossing it to someone else; you end up in a different app because of the touchpad. The internal components of the device are a higher quality than other streaming devices. So reaction time and navigating through the device is much faster than using another device, if you care about that sort of thing.

AirPlay, screen mirroring, and Siri voice control work flawlessly, making it a breeze to navigate and enjoy your favorite content. It's a hub for all my streaming subscriptions, including Apple TV+, Netflix, Disney+, and more. However, there is one minor downside that I have experienced, and that's with the remote control. Occasionally, the remote can be unresponsive or laggy, which can be a bit frustrating. It seems like a rare issue, but it's worth mentioning. Nevertheless, I've found that using the Apple TV app on my iPhone as a remote control is a handy workaround when the physical remote acts up.In summary, the Apple TV 64 GB is an incredible addition to any home entertainment setup. It offers a vast selection of content, integrates seamlessly with other Apple devices, and provides an immersive viewing experience. While the remote control issue is a slight annoyance, it's far from a deal-breaker, and there are workarounds available. I highly recommend the Apple TV to anyone looking for a premium streaming device that offers a top-notch entertainment experience.

Premium device and experience, but with big shortcomings

Bought this to be a better Roku and for a more premium experience. In general usage, I would say it's a good device with gigabit ethernet and Wifi 6/AX. Streaming apps work great and the Apple ecosystem integration works well. I can't comment on usage without a home theater system. The biggest shortcomings are that the device doesn't allow ANY audio passthrough. All formats are decompressed to PCM/LPCM at the ATV and sent to your TV. That might not be an issue for most people, but I fought this device for two weeks figuring out a picture/audio desync with HDR content. This device tested with a Sony X85K and A90L required to be connected to the TV, with audio sent to an AVR via eARC. Passing audio and video through multiple tested AVRs caused a desync. ... MoreBought this to be a better Roku and for a more premium experience. In general usage, I would say it's a good device with gigabit ethernet and Wifi 6/AX. This device tested with a Sony X85K and A90L required to be connected to the TV, with audio sent to an AVR via eARC. Passing audio and video through multiple tested AVRs caused a desync. (Specifically a video delay, audio would happen before the picture moved.)Another issue related to the audio handling is that ads in any content whether it be via Hulu, Youtube or another service have varying loudness levels. Using our Yamaha receiver set to Straight passthrough in 5.1... on the Roku Ultra, we leave the receiver at -34db and everything sounds the same level for the most part via Dolby digital, DTS, or AAC. With the ATV 4K, the audio varies wildly. Some shows are fine at -34, The Bear on Hulu needs -25db, Ted Lasso on ATV+ is -29db, Andor on D+ is -29.... It's just all over the place and gets annoying as we constantly need to change the volume.Con, Plex is problematic on this device. It works, but there is almost always an additional audio delay. In my case, it's 225ms. Most people will say to use the paid Infuse app as an alternative. Note: most documented plex issues are 2+ years old at this point based on the forums. No faith that it will be fixed soon.To be completely honest, I'm debating on returning this device due to the frustrations. The hardware and connectivity are great, but the experience has been extremely frustrating.

Solid Upgrade to 1st Generation Apple TV 4K

I purchased this device to replace on my main (6 year old) OLED TV a first Generation Apple TV 4K. The original device is now connected to my second TV.Whilst there were no surprises comparing the new Apple TV 4K with the old one, it has proven over the last four weeks of daily use to be a solid upgrade, with a faster interface and a (slightly) more ergonomic Siri remote.I use it for simple gaming and streaming from multiple sources. The tvOS operating system is easy to operate without any noticeable lag when opening apps or switching between multiple open apps. This button receives heavy use in gaming and occasionally displays a disconcerting rattle when presses repeatedly. Please note that whilst this new generation of Apple TV 4K now displays HDR video on a well know video streaming platform it does not display HLG HDR video on the UK's national broadcaster's catch up platform.Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would fully recommend it to extend the working life of any smart TV.

Very impressive...

I've tried at least 2 streaming boxes before this one "google chromecast 4k" and the "Onn with google tv 2023".... and the Apple TV 2022 destroys them both in terms of performance....Now I don't like Apple products usually so setup was kinda painful and I don't really care too much for the U.I seems barebasic compared to Google TV unless you used the APPLE TV app which is a paid sub....But I can't deny the performance is beautiful... Zips though any and all apps even while recklessly multitasking... I can have 5-10 streaming apps loaded ... Flipping between shows, fast forwarding though with zero lag..... Feels like I'm watching downloaded content not streaming... It's so fast...Speed test shows 700 mbps on wifi... That's FAST.... Some people say you can stream with under 100mbps but trust me faster internet makes a difference...Something like that is maybe 3-5 years away on Google TV devices.. they are just so underpowered... I Like Google TV OS better with integrated Youtube and liveTV it's.... It's just all the Google TV boxes are soo slow.....The only one I can think of that could match this is the shield from Nvidia but that 4 years old and poorly supported by google and Nvidia these days.. so I doubt it...I say even if you don't like Apple give this a shot it's probably the best streaming box out there... The only Con I can think of is that some Apps on Apple TV aren't as good as the GTV ones... but that's really a minor thing...Some of the Apple TV are also better than the GTV ones so it kinda balances out...That's why I'll keep my GTV too for those apps that work better on GTV...but 90% of the time I will be using the Apple Tv.....
