This is perfect when paired with a shell jacket, I have the Beta AR and ive found through pretty heavy use that this combo is ideal.This jacket is also very suited to day to day use, its very fashionable and a great everyday fall jacket for casual use.My single only complaint with this jacket is that draw string on the hood can be pretty uncomfortable if tightened up too much and doesnt really do anything unless you tighten it up that much, but I’ve found the hood is completely adequate when completely loosened so its pretty minor in my opinion.Overall, I think this jacket was the best $300 I ever spent I dont really have any other way to put it.

This will serve you well and is truly a bomb proof and incredibly high performing and cosy jacket! Very disappointed with my recent Arc'teryx purchase. I bought the Men's Atom hoody in a size small (I'm 5'7", 140 lbs) and it's disappointing compared to my Wife's Atom hoody from 5 years ago (named the Atom LT hoody at the time). I noticed instantly the material felt thinner and cheaper. The fit of the new Atom is also very boxy and I would not consider it "fitted" at all. I have an older Beta shell in size XS which I find can be tight in some spots so I ordered the Atom in size S, which turned out to be quite roomy. I definitely could have fit an XS and it still probably wouldn't be "fitted". The fit of Arc'teryx overall seems to have become boxier which is quite disappointing. Purchased in 2018, runs true to size. I am 5'7", broad shoulders (44" chest), and I wear a size L, which is comfortable. I love how lightweight it is, and typically wear this in the dead of midwest winters with a fleece midlayer, often in subfreezing temps. In temps below 20°, I might wear something more robust. But this jacket can hold its own. The side fabric is breathable, and the outer shell performs fairly well in wet weather. The hood is boxy, and when on, it looks sort of funny - not the most flattering. That's fine, because I wear this for it's performance. Cinch elastic helps with keeping the hood on, and the chest pocket is handy. My biggest gripe about the design of this jacket is the side pocket design. The fitted fit is much nicer than some of the other boxier cuts and it's breathable. I've used it while hiking/walking as my outer shell in 19 degree weather with a thicker base layer and was fine. Jacket is lightweight, moves well with the body and is packable. I love the stretch cuffs making it easier to put on and take off over gloves. The hood also stays in place really well and doesn't hinder your vision or use of a headlamp. Haven't had it out in the rain yet to test the water durability. I am not a “curvy” woman, but the hip area was still way too tight. When I sized up, the top part was way too big. In addition to the cut, I found the coat proportions in general did not fit me. Nothing seemed to fall in the right place. I am 5 feet tall and the coat was cut to fit tall women. This could also be why the hip area didn’t fit - it was probably falling too low. Still, I think widening the hip area could help the coats fit better on a wider range of women. All of the Arcteryx coats that I tried on seemed to have this issue. It would really be nice to have petite sizing - but please don’t just shorten the coats ... The main issue for me has always been wide shoulders and longer arms. The fit of this jacket is perfect if you are athletic. It’s articulated well also. I can raise my arms overhead with zero hem lift.I know everyone has an issue with tyono 20 fabric but I have yet to experience anything other than minor pilling after 5 years. Of course I don’t use this with backpack straps which seems to be the main issue. They confirmed chipped zipper teeth are covered under their lifetime warranty (as they should be), and damage such as this wouldn’t fall under mis-use or normal wear-and-tear. Their initial response was for me to mail the jacket in (on my own dime), have it repaired, and then have it sent back to me. This was an issue for me because A) it would require me not having the product for multiple weeks while it was being repaired, and B) the cost of shipping would have been more than the cost to have the zipper simply repaired at a local shop. So naturally, I asked if there were any other options…. They said that if I wanted to repair the jacket locally out of my own pocket, that is ok, but that it would void their lifetime warranty. To compensate for this, they offered me a product voucher worth roughly 50% of the product. All I had to do was simply make a mark on the tag of the product so that it could never be used in a future warranty claim. I was very happy with this compromise and proceeded with this option. Fast forward to this year….. I literally had the EXACT SAME damage issue to my Atom SL (chipped teeth on the main zipper). I contacted customer service and again was told to mail it in for repairs. Besides the two issues I mentioned above, they also mentioned the replacement zipper would not be the OEM color (wouldn’t match the other zipper colors), but they would do their best to get it close. This may boil down to personal preference, but if I am paying $200-$700USD for a jacket, and then have to pay to ship it in for repairs, I would prefer to not have it look like a “Frankenstein” jacket with multi-colored zippers. It looks trashy, low quality, and cheap (even if they are functionally the same). I contacted them again and made a reference to how my previous product repair warranty claim was handled. Their first response was to mail it in (again, on my own dime), forfeit the jacket, and I would be issued a 20% (not 50%) product voucher code. Please take note, for a $220 jacket, 20% is roughly $40USD, which, if you subtract the shipping to send it to them, is closer to $20-$30USD. So naturally, I asked two questions. #1: Why was I allowed to self-repair and keep my first product, but for my Atom SL I have to forfeit it and send it in. #2: Why was I given a 50% product voucher code for my first claim, and now only a 20% voucher code for my second claim. I got a lot of run-around from multiple customer-service agents and had to escalate my issue to a manager. They never could actually give me a direct answer as to why self-repairs were allowed before, but now all claims absolutely must be mailed in via the ReWEAR program. They also could not explain why I could keep the jacket and get 50% towards a new product, but now have to forfeit the jacket and only get 20%. I was simply told that they were “making exceptions” for me, and I could take my 20% or get lost. Not exactly great customer service for one of the top-tier outdoor clothing companies. I still love my Atom SL, as well as all my other Arcteryx products, but their products are obviously more expensive that most other gear on the market. One of the main reasons I am willing to pay that premium is for the lifetime warranty and supposedly, good customer service. When I am told I have to mail a $220 jacket in, lose it, and only get a $40 bucks, it’s almost like a slap in the face. I am quite curious if they will actually answer the questions I’ve listed above, or if they will provide some brief/curt answer stating that franken-steining an extremely expensive jacket together is really the best that they can do.
This jacket is everything as great as everyone says it is. Outer is malleable yet durable, worn this jacket primarily for the last year and there are no signs of wear and tear. Surprising temperature range, worn comfortably standing around in a t-shirt in 32ºF weather with relatively high humidity. Overall design is fantastic, zipper is easy to actuate, fleece lined pockets add a little more comfort and warmth, hood has good coverage. Fit is fantastic, I’m 6’3 and 155lbs and bought a size large. I have a little room to mess with layers. Great from both a casual and technical standpoint. I use it for everything, general use, skiing, hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, and others I can’t think of. It’s my favorite jacket bar none.
