Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket W - Jacket

(221 reviews)

The Arc'teryx Beta SL women's lightweight hiking jacket is very versatile for mountain environments with its waterproof, breathable and windproof Gore-Tex membrane. Designed with a purposeful simplicity, this non-insulated shell features a trim fit that eliminates bulk, moves with your body and fits comfortably over your insulation and mid layers. Its helmet compatible StormHood gives full coverage without impeding sight. This outer layer is famous for its remarkable performances across a wide range of activities. Layering is the key of keeping you dry, warm and using your energy efficiently. Put into the right systems, a good sequence of layers moves moisture away from your skin, conserves or dissipates heat and provides you with weather protection. Here they are. The first layer, worn next-to-skin will provide warmth and quickly move moisture away from your skin. Then, the second layer, is the insulation and fleece, that provides warmth while also dissipating heat during periods of high output. And finally, the third layer, the shell, which is the most weather-protective layer, worn on the outside of all other layers.

Absolutely Perfect!

I bought this jacket before heading off on a long multi-day trek in the Scottish Highlands. There were plenty of days hiking in cold, rainy weather, so I needed a super lightweight, reliable, completely waterproof and breathable jacket to help get me through many 10-hour days of hiking on the trails in changeable weather. This jacket was perfect! It never let me down. Not once. I kept anticipating a leak, but I was bone dry every single day. And I never got that clammy feeling either. For me, the jacket is worth every single penny. The fit is perfect as well. I'm 5'5 and a curvy 128 lbs. Beta SL jacket is packable and lightweight jacket that is a good addition to your outdoor apparel. It excels in all the key areas: waterproofing, weight, durability, and comfort. Can be layered with sweater or long sleeves for more insulation. Whether you’re caught in a downpour or navigating through misty mountain trails, this jacket will keep you dry and comfortable without weighing you down. Pair with Gamma pants to complete the look. ;) Ordered size XS.

Great jacket! It fit me well and was comfortable. It was easily packed and lightweight enough for backpacking. I loved the low profile pit zips, and taped seams. The hood will easily cover a helmet, and has adjustment in the case you aren’t wearing one. I took it to the sierras and it was great for wind protection (fortunately for me, unfortunately for this review, it did not rain). I did test it under a hose and it held up magnificently. Definitely waterproof! My only complaint is the color choices, but that’s a personal preference!

Hooray for PFC-free!
6 October 2024

I am so stoked that Arcteryx is now using PFC-free Goretex - an environmental and personal health necessity in my opinion - and the Arcteryx quality I count on remains. I love the interstellar color, it's such a fun and pretty shade that still feels neutral enough to pair with anything. After wearing a size medium Arcteryx rain shell for many years, I decided to size up to a large this time around so that I can comfortably fit my bulky sweaters underneath for prime PNW layering. It's definitely a bit oversized, but it's a much more comfortable fit for layering.

Love this jacket!!
9 October 2024

I bought the Beta in a large, even though I’m usually a medium, based on other reviews as I wanted it a bit big. It is perfect and fits wonderfully over my Atom hoodie, or a heavy fleece if layering. This is a great jacket for hiking and any time a water/wind resistant jacket is needed.

My New Hiking Partner
15 September 2024

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.”I've been waiting for it to rain in Seattle in order to fully review. Well, today was the day. This jacket literally weighs nothing and packs down tiny. Threw it in my pack as I left for an early morning hike and within 10 minutes it was needed as the skies opened up. I sized up to a large, since my other Arc'teryx jacket is a medium and I can barely zip it up if wearing a tshirt. Was surprised how roomy this was, even when wearing a hoody underneath. It did take me a minute to cinch the hood tight enough to be able to see, yes the hood is that big, and up the trail I went. Was expecting to get too warm or get that dreaded muggy sweaty feel, but to my great ... MoreI received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.”I've been waiting for it to rain in Seattle in order to fully review. After 90 minutes in the pouring rain I returned to my car, stripped the Beta off and was dry as a whistle! Love the army green color, but a bit of reflective material would make this jacket pure perfection.

Perfect little rain shell
15 September 2024

This jacket arrived just in time for some late summer thunderstorms. Perfect in every way from fit to comfort and I stayed completely dry. It is just a light shell so size up to fit over a fleece or heavy sweater if cooler weather.

Size up for Larger Busts
17 September 2024

Note: I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.Fit: I wanted a more snug fit for the jacket, so I got a size medium as I typically can fit it in standard sizing/with other more flexible materials. While the jacket fit as I wanted to in the arms and most of the torso, it was a bit too tight in the bust. Because of this, I might have gotten a size large, but otherwise the fit was sufficient.Weight: In terms of weight, you can’t beat this jacket. Putting this in a small pack to go camping and hiking is a breeze, and it doesn’t feel too heavy to wear in warmer weather. It also feels like it could be used with layers in cold weather and be just as effective, but it’s difficult to confirm as I’ve only ... MoreNote: I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.Fit: I wanted a more snug fit for the jacket, so I got a size medium as I typically can fit it in standard sizing/with other more flexible materials. There is a small, velvet-like pocket on the inside for valuables and two zippable pockets in the sides. Good mobility overall.Final impressions: Size up for women with big busts, but overall I have no complaints. An all around functional rain jacket that seems like it will last a long time/for many future trips.

Super waterproof and breathable
20 September 2024

Will for sure keep you dry the entire time. Because of the strong material, it is incredibly waterproof. The water doesn’t sit on your jacket and seep in like some other types. It feels breathable -I like that it doesn’t stick to your skin or feel clammy to the touch on the inside when it rains. The hood has cords that help it stay up and out of your face - you will need to do some adjusting to make it work well.

Weightless rain jacket
26 September 2024

I've been using this jacket mainly for hiking and walking the dog. Keeps me very dry in the rain and I really appreciate the pit zips for venting. The material is weightless and comfortable, and the fit is classic. I am obsessed with the colour Tatsu and highly recommend purchasing it.
