They look alright and they function fairly well, but they're let down on the details. The motor is slow. The fastest setting is unimpressive. The slowest is barely noticeable. The light has three temperatures which are changed by turning it on and off rapidly. Very easy to accidentally change the colour. The speed control is backwards (1 is fast, 3 is slow). The switch panel is an odd style that doesn't match anything else in the house (or any other house I've been in). The shroud above the blades doesn't reach the ceiling so there's an odd gap. Otherwise it's fine, but I wouldn't recommend it

These have been such a pain. I wouldn't recommend them if you're getting more than one. The fan itself I'm happy with, looks nice, and it's quiet. But we bought 6 for multiple rooms in the house and the remote regularly unsyncs from one of the fans, or one remote will turn on two fans at once. Not to mention, with kids, we're constantly losing the remote or mixing them up. I wish I'd chosen fans that just had wall knobs.

Bought to replace an existing fan that was noisy and ineffective. This arlec Smart Madrid is better in every way. Unfortunately the warm LEDs were faulty on the original unit but a phone call to arlec and super hassle free swap over install had a new one up and running in no time. The app integration was no hassle at all, and the dimmer and led warm/cool blending works great. Well balanced straight out of the box and perfectly good airflow on minimum speed. Top speed is a bit noisy but no more than any other fan I've used and does the job for some quick air movement when needed.

Purchased 5 fans as replacement for older style ceiling fans that were no longer working or going very slowly. Electrician had no trouble assembling and installing. Remote works flawlessly and setup onto phone was very easy with the included instructions. A "bump" on the light button on the remote would be handy for in the dark but I'm sure we will learn where it is quite quickly. The 3 light options are great as we are not fans of "yellow - warm white" lights so to be able to add some cool/daylight tones into it is great. Only thing that concerns me is that the LED lights seem to be an all-in-one unit which may make replacement difficult/expensive later down the track. We wanted to replace 2 old ceiling fans (lounge room and master bedroom) but read some reviews that said these fans were noisy. So we thought we'd try one in the lounge room first. They're actually very quiet, especially when compared to any of the other ceiling fans in our house. So we went back and bought a second one to install in our bedroom. ADVANTAGES: + 6 speed settings (from slow breeze all the way up to blow-your-face-off-there's-a-chopper-landing). + the LED light can be super bright, or you can dim it to be ambient while watching tv etc. We have adjusted ours (using the app) to be warm white because the daylight white is way too bright and glarey. + comes with its own remote control - you can screw its cradle to the wall. + once you get the fan to connect ... MoreWe wanted to replace 2 old ceiling fans (lounge room and master bedroom) but read some reviews that said these fans were noisy. AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: - Arlec needs to work with Grid Connect to make WiFi set up easier... it was a nightmare to get the fan to connect to WiFi - it doesn't seem to produce its own hotspot if you want to switch from EZ mode to AP mode. In the end, I set up my hubby's mobile with a hotspot that mimics our NBN WiFi SSID and password, turned off our other smart devices, turned off the NBN WiFi, connected via my phone with the Grid Connect app in EZ mode, completed the set up, then turned NBN WiFi back on, mobile hotspot off, and turned our other smart devices back on. It absolutely refused to connect using EZ mode even when I logged into our NBN router to temporarily disable 5G band (Because most smart devices only run on 2.4G band) - I've set up 20-30 smart devices in our home (plus for family and friends), including security cameras, lights, switches, air purifiers, TVs, AC, you name it... so I generally know what I'm doing. Trying to connect this fan was particularly difficult and *almost* had me stumped, until I figured out the hack using the temporary mobile phone hotspot for set up. After that, I'm happy to buy more of these fans - they're great! The second fan only took me a few minutes to connect (using the hotspot hack) with the app and set up. - You can't change the light bulb because it's a series of tiny LEDs wired directly into the fan (not sure how long the light will last). Will I buy more of these? Yes. Am I happy with it? Definitely. Was it easy to install? The electrician did it. Was it easy to connect to WiFi? No, not until I figured out the mobile hotspot hack, then it was quick and easy.
I bought one back in 2013 and it survived the 2017 cyclone Tracey. It went under completely submerged! It still works today!! My big brands blew!!! Thought they stopped making them as I went into Bunnings recently and young lad told me ceased production. So I bought 4 heller 50w reversables online. What utter rubbish. Couldn’t even blow my candle out! Today I accidentally came across Bunnings restocking this item so I am returning the blowless 4 and buying another 3, although I need 4 or 5, these have a simple hook to install so I can very easily move them from shed to garage to carport to verandah or to wherever I’ll be on that day. Carport for blowing my softop dry after rain or move it a meter or 2 for if I’m under the bonnet. Simple! Extra long cord helps heaps. ... MoreI bought one back in 2013 and it survived the 2017 cyclone Tracey. It went under completely submerged! It still works today!! My big brands blew!!! Carport for blowing my softop dry after rain or move it a meter or 2 for if I’m under the bonnet. Simple! Extra long cord helps heaps. Startup noisy so what? Runs as noisy as others big brands I have inside. Could even use inside if needed or breakdown. Lightweight plastic easy to move and less load on the motor. Installation hook is strong steel. Consider portable without tripping over the cord.
Hired a qualified electrician to install. At first the fan didn’t work but then he found that the wiring had dislodged itself. I didn’t have this problem with two other fans (different brand slightly more expensive but no wifi) I had purchased. Luckily he was able to fix it and after three weeks so far so good. I was also able to use the wifi to control from my smart phone and through Alexa. So essentially it’s great now but it was touch and go for nearly an hour while trying to figure out what the issue was with the fan.
bought 3 of these appx 2 years ago. All 3 remotes are totally stuffed and won't work and one of the receiver units is also not working just after warranty period finished. Only 2 of them will work on Grid Connect as the one with faulty receiver unit will also not connect to grid Connect. I rang Arlec and they said there are 2 different types of replacement remotes, one with receiver unit as a kit and one withput receiver unit. Of course they don't have any of the remotes only in stock and no ETA and they advised they may be also discontinued but cpouldnt advise one way or the other. Now trying to sell me 3 x full replacement kits with new receivers and remotes despite only needing 1 full replacement kit and 2 x remotes only.
Bought to replace an old brass fan. Installation is easy enough especially since I replacing an existing one so no wiring changes are required. Note that the Wifi controller must sit flush against the ceiling inside the ceiling cap so don't mount the fan with the power wires coming out of the ceiling in the middle. Six speeds is not necessary; there's not much difference between speeds; 4 speeds would be enough. I think I expected more airflow so it's on 4 or 6 all the time on these muggy days. Amazon Alexa can turn it on/off but I can't get it to control the speed or the light. Full control is possible via the Grid Connect app. It's pretty quiet even at full speed.
Works great, very quiet. Wifi works well with the Grid Connect app and Google assistant. The remote control has a great range as well. The only thing I would've liked, would to have the ball joint at the top to be white in colour, which would be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye rather than black. As when mounted on a white roof, everything is nice and white, except the big black ball joint.
