2nd lot of this type of product iv tried. Both packs have stopped working after a few months. Both packs were arlec. Iv also tried arlec smart bulbs. Failed after a few months. Seeing a trend here. Arlec = fail.

I bought a set of 4 of these a few years ago. They were more stylish than the illustration. They were initially great, but progressively, over the last few months, all but one has failed to switch off.I saw a review below which pointed to Jaycar having a better alternative and have now ordered that.

This unit was great for a while but after a while the power kept being constantly on. You can't turn it off even when the unit is off, the power is still going. We concluded that the load of 2 transformers even for low powered garden lights was too variable for the controller to manage. We went through 4 controllers before realising.Works for simple things but don't use for garden lights etc.

If you are lucky enough to have the old version that looks identical to the picture in the product listing, they are great. However, Arlec changed the design a few years back and they are now complete garbage (see attached pic). All of the newer ones I purchased have all failed within months, but the old ones are still going strong after a few years of use.Jaycar sell a version based on the old design, so you would be better of getting those instead. They also run on the same frequency so are directly compatible with the Arlec remote as well.
In March 2020 I bought the set of four wall units with one remote switch unit. Within the 12 month warranty period two of the four wall units had failed. They simply stopped responding to commands from the remote switch and could not be reprogrammed. Bunnings replaced these two under the warranty. Now, in 2022, out of warranty, two more of the wall units have failed in the same way. Clearly this system is unstable and hence unreliable. I'm getting rid of it and looking for an alternative system from another manufacturer. I don't recommend it.
My husband picked these up had a couple of years now no problems.!! Unlike the other reviews having problems maybe they were just a faulty batch. Not dismissing their experience..The remote is sturdy works the wrong way round even. Never have to get up to put the fan on .makes life easier..Worth a shot love the product. If you have problems Bunnings’s always replaces so win win I reckon .!! Good luck..!!
I have bought a set of both the old (as pictured on website) and later model versions. I have one of the old left still working and all of the new have failed. When I returned them Bunnings staff were helpful but because I had lost my receipts they only offered their lowest on special price of $2.62 per unit when originally cost over $20 each so nowhere near the price paid.I believe they should have just swapped the product new for old as given these reviews the product obviously has a known problem of short longevity.
I bought the newer version of this (model RC212) in December 2020. It came with one remote control and 4 power-point units. The power-point units started failing one by one from late 2021 and now in April 2023 the last of the four units has failed. Definitely won't be buying this again and am now wary of the entire Arlec brand :-(
Trust the reviews…. Worked well for a few months but same experience as others, the remote no longer switches off. I urge Bunnings to pull these from the shelf. I have 2 wifi units which still seem to be going well after 8 months. Do not waste money on the remote model.
You can pair any number of buttons on any number of remote controls to the one plug. You can also programme a button to control any number of plugs. For example, you can set button A on three different remotes to control one plug. Or you can set button a on one remote to control four different plugs. You can also program button A to control one plug, button B to control another and button C to control both plugs at the same time. Its very customizable but can get complicated if you’re not methodical when programming them. If there is a power outage, they usually retain their pairings, so long as you don’t push any buttons while the led on the plugs are flashing (usually about 20secs). We have nine of these plugs in a very small area and I think we may have reached the limit as one of the buttons meant to control an upstairs plug also turns on a downstairs plug. We did not have this issue until I added the last plug. Perhaps 8 is the limit? I’m very happy with these for the price and I prefer them over the ‘smart’ versions (which we also have in other areas of the house) as they have physical buttons so you don’t need to get out your phone to turn them on and off.
