I recently purchased both the 4K (Arlo Ultra 2) and the Arlo Pro-4 and even though the Arlo Ultra 2 has a wider viewing angle, the Arlo Pro 4 camera can do everything the Ultra 2 can do for less money, without needing a hub and with a longer battery life. I also did some test with regards to image quality and found the image quality is virtually the same between the two cameras even though one would expect the Ultra 2 to perform better. The Arlo Pro 4 is great value for money and does everything I would expect from a security camera. Highly recommended!

The Arlo Pro 4 is marketed as 2k quality, it barely makes SVGA quality. Seriously, the picture quality is awful, nothing like on the box. It also runs about 20 seconds behind real-time, has a washed-out picture, and constantly greys the screen while it 'refreshes' or 'resyncs', or does something. Meanwhile, you're looking at a darkened screen and three pulsing dots - not a 2K quality, live. image. And, the courier is already back in their van and off before the camera decides there's someone in the drive. Hopeless. Also: - it can't store images/vide locally, only on the cloud so if you don't pay for a subscription then I'm not sure how you can take a screen shot or save a video... - Two cameras were in the box, one eventually woke up and connected to wifi, the ... MoreThe Arlo Pro 4 is marketed as 2k quality, it barely makes SVGA quality. Bought these some 3 months ago. They are easy to install and setup. Quality of video is ok.package detection function is nice and works. Arlo Cashback: The promotion is misleading, as you will not get the full amount advertised. I got $6 less than i should have (the letter the card comes with tells you the amount in the card, which is mot the one advertised). They sometimes have a small lag of up to 1 minute for alerting of movement, and is not the internet connexion, it is the cameras. They are not waterproof for sure. I connected one to a solar panel, and after the rain it stop working and refused to do so, even after several attempts and having dried it, so had to move it under a roof and it worked fine. Annoying you can only disable notifications for 24 HS max.

I was hesitant to purchase these due to the cost initially, but suffice to say they've performed well. Initial setup is straight forward following the wizard, and connectivity to my router seems great, even from the (small) back yard. The motion detection works really well, as do the smart notifications. Battery life is probably a bit shorter than advertised, although it depends on how active the area the camera's aiming at is (as it only records when detecting movement or on demand). Might consider the solar panels given the small price. Both mount options provided work well, the screw on mount is good for outdoors and the magnetic mount is plenty strong enough to hold its angle for indoor applications. Overall, worth the investment!

Good build and video quality. However a few things that make it more hands on than expected1. Had trouble keeping connection to wifi - as a result of them dropping out, the battery died on each of the units. Still trying to resolve.2. To recharge the battery, you have to bring the whole unit to a powerpoint i.e. the battery can't be charged independent of the whole camera and casing.3. There are only two screw on wall mounts supplied and two magnets (which isn't ideal for area where the public can access as they can be easily dismounted).Overall good quality product but I would perhaps look for something with a base station to enable better connectivity. I've also bought 2 screw wall mounts from bunnings (additonal costs).

Great idea, so-so execution

Before you buy the Arlo Pro 4, know that you will need: - Super fast internet. Anything less than about 50 mbps down and 10ish mbps up and the 'live' video will suffer from huge lag and the 2 way audio will not function - Wifi that reaches every corner of your property with a medium/strong signal. No base station - A UPS to keep your modem and router online, or else disabling the cameras is as easy as flicking the mains off at the meter box - No pets in the area you wish to protect. A single, lazy dog will shorten your battery life to under a week. As video must be sent to their server for identification, even if you disable notifications for animals, it'll still record and upload the video - Good tolerance for 3am notifications that a person is in your yard, even ... MoreBefore you buy the Arlo Pro 4, know that you will need: - Super fast internet. As video must be sent to their server for identification, even if you disable notifications for animals, it'll still record and upload the video - Good tolerance for 3am notifications that a person is in your yard, even though it's your dog or the wind. It classifies correctly maybe 90-95% of the time, but that 5-10% is hard to ignore - To buy 2 more screw in mounts - the kit comes with two screw-in mounts and 2 magnetic mounts. The magnetic mounts mean that any cameras within jumping reach can be stolen in seconds. Arlo will not trace or disable stolen cameras for you. These are a great idea but they have a way to go yet. More secure mounts, facial recognitions, an option for image classification BEFORE recording would all make a difference.

Needs some fixes

ARLO Pro 4 I purchased just a week ago. They were a little temperamental to get going but ok in the end. I am very disappointed with the range as i purchased them to cover my front garden mainly and they just don't work once i go more than about 2-3 metres from the house although i have a TP Link mesh system and have since plugged the closest unit into an ethernet over power setup to try and help. I have paid for a specialist to come and troubleshoot and he found no interference from surrounding homes and nothing that could cause the cameras to consistently drop out and the lag was as much as 45 seconds when they were working. People would have been long gone before i was notified and sometimes it didn't start recording until after the test package had been dropped ... MoreARLO Pro 4 I purchased just a week ago. I have since installed all 4 cameras onto the house itself and not in the garden area and they are working ok but hence they don't cover the area i wanted them to. I gave them a 3 in the hope that they will be improved with updates as i am impressed with the quality of the picture. Its been an expensive exercise though. I think the subscription fee is on the high side and will deter some people.

Poor quality components, bad customer service.
28 November 2022

I bought these around a year ago, and in that time I have had 3 of the 4 cameras stop working. Some had corroded parts, some batteries stopped taking charge. Even the operating units need charging every fortnight, not the 6 month battery life that is advertised. The worst part however is that to get parts fixed or replaced, you need to go through the overseas online chat every single time. You have to start from the beginning EVERY SINGLE TIME and it takes weeks up to months to get a part replaced. In my opinion, total waste of money. It defeats the purpose to have a camera out of action for weeks.

Unreliable Arlo systems
13 September 2022

I have been through 2 complete Arlo 4 camera systems and found them to be OK whilst the free online storage system is in place BUT, you then start finding major issues with performance and reliability when that free period ends and you don't pay for online storage and use their local storage option, even with SSD hard drives. As a security system, it is just totally unreliable and at best, a tool you have to reboot constantly to keep it working! I moved to a MUCH better 4K Swann Wireless system that is so much more mature in features and reliability and, teamed with cheap inline Lithium 12v 2A, separate camera UPS's, just walks all over the more expensive Arlo system.

Bought f cameras and Arlo hub stopped working straight away. Then changed the Hub and tried to connect the cameras again, but 2 cameras stopped working with in next week. JB Hi-Fi at Ipswich were also unable to help at all. Eventually bought other brand from jaycar and now they are working perfectly for last 2 weeks. I shall recommend everyone to not waste money on Arlo.
