They still record and stream in 4K with no issues.My biggest complaint about the Ultras comes from having the new Floodlight camera first. The Floodlight camera has a setting that triggers the LED floodlights without arming the entire system. Since the Ultras have LED spotlights, I assumed they'd have the same feature set. I was wrong. The Ultras have the same basic settings as the Pros I replaced. In order for the spotlight to trigger, the camera has to be armed. Not a big deal, but sometimes I want to be able to have the lights trigger on their own without having to manually trigger them from the Arlo app.The other interesting "feature" lost in the Ultras is using the micro-USB cables to charge the batteries. Arlo has gone full magnetic charging cables for the Ultras. This is nice if you want to hardwire the camera in a sense to you're not relying on the battery, but even the Floodlight camera has the option to use micro-USB or the magnetic charging port. It would've been nice to have an option.That's enough of my griping, I actually really like the build quality of the Ultras compared to the Pros. The Ultras are noticeably bigger, come with a bigger battery, and have the option of using a screw-based mounting solution in addition to the magnetic base option like the Pros. Just keep in mind, the magnetic mounting solution is different between the Pros and the Ultras - you cannot use the existing magnetic mounts that the Pros use with the Ultras because the cameras are designed differently.The video quality is also noticeably better because now, locally, I can stream video up to 4k resolution compared to the 720p of the Gen 1 Pros.If you're looking to upgrade from an existing Arlo Gen 1 Pro or Gen 2 Pro, or if you're looking for a simple to install and easy to use home monitoring solution, then the Arlo Ultras might be worth a look.

I added the Arlo Ultra 2 camera's to my old base and they are working great. I will just keep the new base for later. Haven't completely explored if I can customize notifications based on motions in different zones, i.e. activating siren if there is motion to close to the camera in my backyard, etc. The camera comes with a spot light that turns on (can be configured to stay off) if it detects motion in the activity zone and gives you an option to turn on the siren, call 911 or call a friend.• Detection: The perception on the camera is amazing, it send notification to your phone and also records a clip, the minute it detects motion in the activity zone. The camera does distinguish between a car animal or person's movement in the activity zone. You can also customize in the app to turn off animal detection if you have to many squirrels or bunnies running in your yard ;-)• Camera resolution: It’s a 4k camera and has an amazing resolution. I was able to zoom in, to read the tags on the shipments outside my front door. It has 180 deg field of view and covers a lot of area, so one camera is good enough for a house with big front yard. The amazing part is you can still clearly see the colors with its enhanced night vision which I didn't have in my older outdoor camera that costed me the same price.• Mic and Speaker: It does have a mic and a speaker so you can converse with someone outside the door, did get to test the quality of mic by speaking to myself and watching it on the recording.• Battery life: This is big differentiator from other camera's that are out in the market. Arlo's spec says 6 months battery life, and I had my front yard camera for 4 days and still has 96% charge with quite a bit of activity over the last 4 days and am guessing I will not have worry about charging the camera for atleast 4 months.• Ecosystem integration: I haven't integrated this into my google smart home hub yet, but the manual said it is compatible with Alexa, Google Home, Apple homekit, and IFTT.Overall I am happy with Arlo products and this is definitely a great addition to my outdoor security system as its built to withstand the extreme weather conditions. Got a 3 month trial to cloud services and might subscribe to save the recording to cloud once I start to travel on work. It only offers a 7 day cloud storage of the recorded activity but there is always the option to store the recordings on the SD card that you can plug into the hub.

I have owned this model for a little over one year. The little annoyances of the software build up over time to the point where i would not recommend this device. Problems: First: There is a long delay (up to a minute) in connecting to the camera when viewing video. The delay makes it worthless as a real time door monitor. By the time the video is displayed the visitor at the door has left. Second: Out of the box the system only records video when movement is detected within a configured Activity area. If movement is not detected there is no video captured. Arlo does provide continuous video capture for an added monthly fee. Three: The app opens with an advertisement for Arlo products 20%? of the time. The app connects to the camera slowly already, adding an ... MoreI have owned this model for a little over one year. This problem occurs with both of my cameras. One camera is just outside my front door with the hub 15' away. Arlos solution is to keep the cameras and hub near each other (move the hub outside?). How about improve the WIFI to make the devices functional.I gave 2 stars because the battery lasts a long time (forever with the solarpanel charger) and the system is easy to set up.I would not buy this again.
The Smarthub makes setting up these cameras super quick. The toughest thing about setting everything up, is securing the camera mounts, but that only takes a few screws. The cameras can be placed virtually anywhere, and offer an inversion mode for upside down mounting. Once you are ready, plug the hub into an open port on your router, load the batteries into the cameras and put them on their mounts. Next you will use the app to locate the cameras, and the basics are all set. From here you can start customizing each camera on what type of alerts you want, or what zones in your camera's field of view you want monitored. The smartHub uses its own 128b encrypted wifi to connect each of the cameras, which has a max range of 300ft. The toughest thing about setting everything up, is securing the camera mounts, but that only takes a few screws. The cameras can be placed virtually anywhere, and offer an inversion mode for upside down mounting. Once you are ready, plug the hub into an open port on your router, load the batteries into the cameras and put them on their mounts. Next you will use the app to locate the cameras, and the basics are all set. From here you can start customizing each camera on what type of alerts you want, or what zones in your camera's field of view you want monitored. The smartHub uses its own 128b encrypted wifi to connect each of the cameras, which has a max range of 300ft. However, the Ultra 2 cameras are also capable of bypassing the SmartHub and connecting directly to your home router, this might prove to be more beneficial for some people, especially if you do not have an extra ethernet port available to connect the hub to. Also, your home router might have a better range than the included hub. You can connect the cameras directly to your router by following the steps in the app. Keep in mind this setup will NOT work if you are NOT going to keep a live subscription for each camera, because otherwise no recordings will happen.Arlo recommends a minimum internet speed of 3mbs/2mbs, no matter how the cameras are connected. Although higher broadband services will work much better for the large video files.Your Arlo cameras can be viewed from practically anywhere you have internet access. They have both an Android and iOS app. You can even log into their website from any pc, Apple or Chromebook, to view or make changes to your cameras.The cameras are actually very nice. For everything they offer, the units are pretty compact. They are able to easily fit into the palm of your hand.The casing is a solid plastic able to withstand some bumps and most weather conditions. I dropped mine a few times while trying to reach the mount, it fell about 12 feetto the ground, and was fine, no issues. Of course I would be a little more hesitant over the driveway, not much can withstand that kind of torture.The cameras have a built in spotlight, siren, speaker and microphone. Each camera is capable of two way voice audio, which works pretty good.The LED spotlight is bright enough to provide 15 to 20 feet of good definition, and 30ft in general. The equivalent can be said about the night vision, except you can get a greater distance with minimal obstructions around. The effective color night vision is only available with the use of the built in spotlight. You can turn off the spotlight and night vision for low light color video, but the quality will be limited.I was unable to find a legitimate Lux rating on the cameras and tech support had no information on that rating, I can tell you that with my own testing, I would guess the Lux rating to be around 5 to 10.I was unable to get any image at all in very low light areas without the spotlight or night vision. Dimly lit areas were still able to produce a decent color image.The cameras have a 180degree wide angle lense, which is capable of capturing what used to take 2 cameras. There is a 12x digital zoom, that you can use at anytime during live or recorded videos.Arlo offers an auto track and zoom feature for any videos under 4k resolution, provided you have a subscription. This is good for narrow fields of view, but larger areas could suffer from this feature,as it would be difficult to track more than one subject on opposite sides of the screen.Activity zones can be outlined to whatever shape or size you want, and each camera can even have multiple zones (again sub. needed)The cameras themselves have an 8 megapixel image sensor, which is capable of recording video in 4K,2K,1080p, and 720p.The batteries are advertised to last 6 months, but that is actually very dependent on how active the camera is or how often it is viewed. If you have the camera facing a very busy street, every car and person going by will trigger some sort of recognition in the camera. For a very busy camera the battery could die out in 1 to 2 weeks, but a camera facing a boring hallway that gets 1 or 2 hits a day could easily last 6 months. It only takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge a dead battery with the included cable, 2.5 hours with the optional external charger. I would recommend getting either a solar power source, or outdoor cable to keep an over active camera going at all time.The video quality is exceptional for a security camera. Facial features and clothing are pretty easy to identify, and license plates of cars can be read up to 30 feet away give or take some, depending on the speed of the motion in the frames.There are different subscriptions for different needs.You can apply different subscriptions and services to different cameras, only 1 plan is needed per camera to enjoy cloud storage and notifications.NO subscription:Without a subscription the Ultra 2 cameras can only record video clips to an optional micro SD card inserted into the bottom of the smarthub.These video clips are only accessible when you are in range of your home network signal. External viewing of these clips can be possible with someadditional effort. Plus you can have the spotlight turn on automatically to help frighten people away, and if that's not enough you can set it to trigger the siren as well. Cameras can also be set up at front doors to alert you of package deliveries, or communicate with anyone at your door. I also really like the idea that the cameras can be triggered not just by motion, but also by sounds. You can get alerts to your phone if the fire alarms or CO2 alarms are going off, in which you can quickly press the 911 alert in the app to notify the authorities of an emergency to your address. It's super easy to add as many cameras as needed to your house, to keep everything and everyone safe.

For most notifications I'm going to rely on the zones for activity. The system does have 4K Cloud storage subscription options and a premium service that can even help with handling 911 emergencies.A key question is battery life, and while I haven't had them that long I can say that it does appear they should have a decent battery life for light recording, and they will send a notification when they are running low and need to be recharged. Since setting them up I haven't ran them dead with people in and out over the holiday and they seem like they'll work just fine watching my front porch/driveway and back door/patio which are the key things I want to monitor as I have a security system inside and security light out back. Charging is easy but if you mount them up high where they are harder to get to then it'll a bit more of a chore to charge them. There are solar panels I saw that I might look into to help keep them topped off as it looks like for me charging will be every couple of weeks based on my use so far.As for the features:The night vision is awesome on this model as it really does show in color and the quality is good too. The 4K Video is very clear and if there was an incident I feel confident that I would have a good capture of any incident, person, car or license plate that got into view and was recorded. The spotlight is a great feature as you can have it set to go off like the siren does or manually set it off if you don't want it automatically doing it. The 2 Way audio is a great feature, especially if you're not home and you have electronic door locks and you want to let someone in for example. I've had other cameras with this feature and I would say that the experience with this set was better than others where it does have noise reduction built in. I would highly recommend connecting this camera set to your Wifi's 5 ghz band to get the best connection to the cameras.Overall, I'd recommend this setup and if you see them on sale, I'd highly recommend getting them. They are expandable so you can add more cameras and I actually do feel confident that things are protected with this system. The only worry is battery life but it appears Arlo has that figured out and you can easily get spares and the solar cells and save tons of extra time/money over installing a wired system.

The audio is much clearer and there is very little delay with the Ultra 2.// Base StationThe Ultra 2 also has an improved range over previous generations using it’s smart hub that requires an ethernet connection. With a mesh wifi network, I am able to place cameras far away from the base station and connectivity never seems to be an issue.Although this package comes with the base station, the Ultra 2 cameras are compatible with the base station that comes with the Pro 3. I had zero issues connecting the Ultra 2 cameras with the base station from the Pro 3.// Battery LifeI haven't had the Ultra 2 long enough to test out the claim of up to 6 months of battery life, but with the Pro 3, which they advertise a battery life of 3 to 6 months, as an outdoor camera using the motion-activated spotlight, I was getting more like 2 months out of it. Although I hope to see improvements with the Ultra 2, 2 months really is still very good for all the features that it has.I’m pretty darn stoked about the Ultra 2 system. It’s great on it’s own and I appreciated that it integrated easily with the previous generation Arlo devices I already own, so it’s not like I had to get a completely new system. Highly recommended!

Arlo claims 6 months of battery life, but given the size of the battery, the LED, the quality of 4K streaming video I am skeptical this number is accurate. Obviously this will be variable based on your motion sensitivity and recording areas, but I highly doubt this battery is going to last 6 months. Additionally, to secure your camera from theft you will want to put it away from normal access but this also makes it harder to charge it. You can run an extension or you can use a USB charging brick. I don't know how long it takes to charge a battery as I haven't been able to use it that much, but a wired option would be great. The hardware would allow it since the housing of the camera goes into a housing that could just as easily have a 5A USB or PoE plug.After using the Cam in my garage and working in there constantly, the battery lasted for roughly 3 weeks and 1120 notifications/events (from the app) and it now needs to be charged.As for the positives, the set-up and the App on the Arlo system were fantastic. I ran into a small bug trying to rename my two cameras from the set-up page, but I skipped out of that and I was able to name each independently after that without issue. The pairing, setup and all that was super fast since they are on their own network. The firmware updates took awhile but that's understandable for any devices of this nature.I loved how the history of the notifications was laid out in the app, calendar days on the top, followed by events for that day. Competitors just have it as a stream which can be a burden to navigate.There is a 3 month free trial after which there is a fee which is published on the Arlo site.I didn't love how they only provided one type of mounting hardware for each camera. The magnet mount is super slick but the least secure. The screw in version is more secure, but less visually appealing. Wish they included one mount for both cameras.As for the LED spotlight....honestly a bit underwhelming. Great for the size of the camera but its not going to work well for an outdoor spotlight cam, which is what I use now. Even for my garage it didn't really illuminate the space. It looks impressive when you look at it directly but it won't really light up a space.The camera features also added a bunch of additional detection features like people, cars, animals to help filter out unwanted notifications.Overall this is an excellent camera security system. My main concerns are theft protection, hardware cost and spotlight cam is underwhelming but overall this is an excellent system with great software, great interface, great hardware and very responsive given it is completely wire-free for both power and networking.
