Army Painter - Miniature and Model Drill
The Army Painter’s Hobby Drill is a well-known, versatile, and essential tool for customising miniature figures and models. It can drill holes in metal, resin and plastic miniatures with the drill bits provided in the handle case and can fit up to a 3mm drill bit size. The Pin Vise, as it’s also called, can be used for various purposes, including drilling pilot holes for pinning miniatures, expanding openings for conversions, or simply adding intricate details. With the Hobby drill in your arsenal, a new world of customisation possibilities opens up. You can modify and enhance your models and scenery by adding new components, weapons, or other details such as bullet holes, rivets, or texture on surfaces like armour or clothing. Because the pin vise’s design is like that of a pen, it is easy and comfortable to hold and control. Designed specifically for small-scale work, it offers greater precision and control than larger, more powerful drills. It allows you to create modifications in even the most confined and tightest of spaces. When using power drills or larger tools, there’s a risk of over-drilling or damaging fragile materials like plastic, resin, or metal. A pin vise minimises this risk, as you have complete control over the pressure applied and can work at a slower, more manageable pace. Complete your drill bit set with Drill Bits for more variety in bit sizes (10 bits) to finish any task involving miniatures. Overall, The Army Painter’s Hobby Drill allows you to create unique and personalised designs that set your models apart.

It works very well! Came with a few bits! Used it to drill a hole into my base, where I put a toothpick and made a mushroom stem. Also works well to bore holes into weapons to make them look more realistic!

The Army Painter drill is a fairly standard hand drill but while it comes with three drill bits it doesn't come with additional collets featured in the images. If you only need to make between 1mm and 2mm holes it will serve the purpose just fine.

Very good drill, it even has a compatment to store the other drill bits. Handles well.

To correct a previous reviewer, the extra collets are in the body of the drill handle. This is a good tool for drilling out gun barrels, drilling bullet holes, pinning, and other modeling tasks. It rotates smoothly in your palm. Purchased with the drill bit set.
It's a specialist tool, to be sure, but if you need an easily controlled small drill for tiny detailing, this is an excellent specialist tool. Decent price, too. I may not use it every day, but when I need it, it's exactly what I was looking for.
This is a great little drill set and the price point was more than reasonable. It comes with an assortment of small bits that fit right in the handle which were perfect for the job. So far I've used it to help pin some components on metal miniatures, and bore out the gun barrels on some plastic minis. The larger bit they give you is the perfect size for standard 40k bolters, but for anything larger than that you'll need the extra drill bit pack that army painter offers.
The drill is good but it does not come with enough bits. You will most likely need to buy a bit set to go along with this hand drill
Cool little tool for model drilling. Takes a little pressure, but works great. It is a hand drill so there is no motor of battery. But it is pretty easy to use. The drill bits seem to be pretty good sizes. I used the smallest for a small paper clip wire.
I’d heard that I needed to drill out my gun barrels. With this tool I feel like I can finally give my minis that little extra to look great. Great tool with great variety out of the gate.
So this is a decent pin vise drill, but it needs more bits, Army painter does sell a bit set, so look that up and grab it when you get this.
