The first problem stems from a lack of bug mesh between the living room and the bedroom, and between the outer door and the interior. It then becomes apparent that the only enclosed space is the bedroom, the rest is merely a shell that is open to the grounds and bugs - inside the tent outer shell. On one night, a rat crawled from beneath the outer shell and came between the outer wall and the bedroom, effectively coming into the tent, and chewed up some food. If the food had been kept in the bedroom, and the door completely closed, it might have been saved. Indeed, the mesh vent near the base of the far end of the bedroom looks onto the grassed grounds on which the tent sits. The bedroom door has the zippers installed in an unusual manner - pushing each zipper away from their respective ends opens a slit (instead of closing), so that when the zippers meet in the middle, the openings are at the top and bottom. What use is that except for ventilation, but since there is no bug mesh, what's the point? Most tent designs would have the zippers close behind them when pushed away from the ends so that meeting at the middle completely closes the doorway. Strange! The problem can be solved if the positions of the two zippers are swapped. Concerning the poles, when removing the poles to dismantle, sections keep catching in the tent slots. It won't budge because the bungee allow the section preceding to become detached. Pushing the pole from the opposite end can only reach so far into the pole slots. Too few vents. Only one window is of the mesh type, the other is a transparent screen that cannot be opened. These are issues that have easy solutions, for which I would have given the tent 5 stars, but in its current format, only 2 stars.

99% blackout compared to what?

Bought for 2 nights camping researched it alot avoided cheaper tents and bought this for the blackout. I assumed it would be leakage around the top vent to give you the 99% blackout. The room Material is like someone just tried to die it black with a second dark layer on the outside tent covering just the bedroom area so the front area let's in all the light. To get 99% would require the front to also have the dark layer which it doesn't. Sitting here writing this I can see everthing on the bedroom floor. The back vent has a fly mesh however the main door doesn't so you can't have the main door open on hot days to stay cool and keep the bugs out.The setup is easy though thanks to the wide pole sleeves..The tent is nice and spacious but due to the blackout or lack ... MoreBought for 2 nights camping researched it alot avoided cheaper tents and bought this for the blackout. Fresh & Black really does it job. Had a friend who had the same but regular 4.1 tent. 1st impression given was it is cool inside despite no air circulating or entering the tent. Maybe they should design a tent that let's air comes in to cool further especially the hot humid weather like Singapore. 1st time to assemble any tent is hard but the 2nd time onwards is a piece of cake

Does what it says
13 July 2022

Having never put up a poled tent before I found this easy (using instructions) to put up. Had a trial run in the house and managed it myself (woman in 50s) however a lot of strength needed to get poles into their sockets. Tent bedroom is great at keeping out light. Great that floor can be folded back from door however loses one star for having no shelter above door, ie rain comes in when door open.

Excellent tent
1 August 2022

Just back from my first camping trip with my 2 boys (4&7) this tent was an excellent choice.very easy to erect, I done it alone and took no more than 20mins. The instructions are sewn into the bag which was helpful and very easy to follow.Bought the tent for the blackout feature of the bedroom. We got into bed about half 7/8 when it was still light outside to watch a movie and the bedroom was pretty dark inside, great if wee ones were getting an early night. The room is very spacious. I had a queen size blowup bed for the boys and a single blowup for me which fitted perfect. I would use this set up again for and the boys but if the wife was joining us I would go for 4 singles or a double and 2 singles. I would say that 4 adults would be a push but it would ... MoreJust back from my first camping trip with my 2 boys (4&7) this tent was an excellent choice.very easy to erect, I done it alone and took no more than 20mins. Again the dismantling and folding instructions are on the reserve side inside the bag and are very helpful.Great buy for us.

Fresh and Black

Just used this for a blistering hot week in Derbyshire and glad we chose it. Would have been cooked in our old tent. More than impressed with it. Plenty of space, quick and easy to put up and easy to pack away too. Good night's sleep with the black bedroom area. Excellent tent

Impossible to assemble
19 October 2022

I purchased two of these tents and both had the same problem. The middle pole is impossible to put into the stand and so the entire tent is impossible to assemble. The ground sheet seems to be too short and so it does not line up correctly. I purchased the first tent and returned it, the salespeople agreed that it was impossible to put up and issued a refund. I purchased a new one, after seeing reviews that mention the design flaw. The new tent had the same problem, will be returning as well and buying a different tent all together.

Perfect tent

Used for 5 days at a festival where we had an absoute downpour on the first night of use. It didn't let a drop of water into the tent, we didn't feel the wind. I didn't even notice until I woke up that it had rained. Seriously impressive. The blackout is a gamechanging feature, you can easily sleep in 90% darkness (compared to a regular tent it is just amazing).Plenty of space to stand in the front section (I am 182cm) and even standing in the back isn't uncomfortable. We slept with 3 people in the back with air mattresses and we probably had less than 5cm between each so a little tight in that sense but honestly an incredible tent. Also very very easy to set up and pack down again into the bag, surpisingly so.Heavy to carry but it is a large tent so not ... MoreUsed for 5 days at a festival where we had an absoute downpour on the first night of use. Really poor
18 July 2022

Unfortunately we could not get it up! Followed instructions , watched video, but impossible to get the poles into the fasteners that attach to the ground. We’re used to putting tents up. Perhaps there was a manufacturing error, but something definitely was not right. We had to go to another retailer to quickly buy a tent for out trip. It was easy to put up. It’s a shame because the design looked good. Glad we checked before out trip.

Review of Decathlon Camping Tent Arpenaz 4.1 4 Person 1 Bedroom Quechua

We had our previous tent for about 10 years and finally decided it was time for a new one! We were not disappointed with this purchase! The tent is a great design and easy to put up (2 people). It also comes with spare sections of pole, guy ropes, bungee etc. The bedroom section is already attached to the outer so it's just a case of popping in some poles and pinning it down! It's very spacious inside and you can stand in the awning which also has space for a table and chairs. The bedroom section is also spacious. We fit a double air bed with plenty of room for our dog in his crate (realistically would comfortably fit a double and single air bed). Only downside is no fly-nets on the outer and bedroom door. We usually like to keep the bedroom section open for ventilation however this wasn't really necessary as the tent was so airy and cool inside (camping on a hot day and cooler inside than out). Towards the end of our trip the weather turned wet and windy and the tent held up well to both! We are very happy we spent the extra to purchase the 'fresh and black' version. Taking the tent down was also very simple and fit easily inside the bag (bag slightly bigger than required).
