Art - PDB Passive Direct Box
The PDB is a roadworthy passive DI for connecting electric instruments and other audio outputs to the balanced inputs of mixers and other balanced inputs. It allows connection to an instrument amp while simultaneously patching it to a mixer. The PDB translates high-impedance signals from instruments into low-impedance balanced signals required by mixers. It also automatically balances and matches line level outputs of keyboards. If you're using a multiple keyboard setup and your keyboards are all plugged into a single amplifier, the PDB can replace individual direct boxes. Simply send the output of the instrument amplifier to the PDB and then to the console (instead of a separate DI box for each keyboard). DJ mixers often supply only an unbalanced 10dB signal. The ART PDB converts this signal to a balanced line level signal before it reaches the console, while providing a convenient method of connector transition with the capability to run long cables. It also accepts speaker level inputs from a power amp allowing post-amplifier, post-EQ, and effects signals to be fed directly to the console.

I already purchased two of these and recommended it several times to others. Good sound quality and simple concept make it easy to use. The three step gain switch is a huge advantage. Very nice also that it doesn't require a battery.

When I began working for the church that had these direct boxes a year ago, there were 5 of them. A year later, we are down to 2. They are by far the worst direct boxes I've ever used. Do yourself a favor and buy the Behringer Ultra-DI DI100 direct box instead (if you can use active boxes). In my eight years as a sound engineer, I've used over 30 DI100s and have never had the slightest problem with any of them.

I tend to disagree with previous reviewer. I have this product and it works great for me. I use it when I have a situation where I am recording from DJ feed that is from their speaker output, usually too loud for line input on digital recorders. It has 3 position pad and ground lift switch. Bullet proof construction, no worries if dropped, not batteries necessary. If you want stereo in and out, you will have to look elsewhere, but DJ speakers are all mono anyway.
| Input Connections | 2 x 1/4" TRS phone |
| Output Connectors | 1 x XLR |
| Input Level | 0, -20 and -40dB switchable input attenuation |
| Controls | Ground lift switch |
| Frequency Response | 10Hz to 50kHz +/-0.5dB @ +4dBu |

When you leave the amp at home, this is the perfect tool to get from the band pit to the front-of-house!It's an ART box!It does what it needs to do in a very cost effective way.
Awesome
I needed an attenuator to boost signal output from an audio tester into our audio amplification chain so the tester did not have to produce sub-mV MIC signals otherwise needed. This device provides in/out isolation via an audio transformer. It is built well, and performed exactly as specified. There is a significant insertion loss still observed at 0dB setting, so be aware of that. I didn't measure the insertion loss, but it appearst to be of in 5-10dB range.
I bought two of these (one was a two-in-one box) and carry them around to a lot of recording gigs. They always seem to work fine. The transformer does add some low end distortion, which almost any box would do unless you pay thousands. But overall it sounds good, they haven't had any connector problems and it and hasn't broken or stopped working yet, after 5 years or so. I usually use these on guitar or bass when micing the amp isn't practical.
Until you try (or build) a quality direct box, you don't know what you're missing by using the ART PDB. Passive DI boxes are all about the transformer. And the PDB has an awful one. This thing, while functional, and useful in a pinch, will destroy your sound. It is well worth the money to purchase a quality box that uses a quality transformer. This thing is build like a steel brick though, but that's all the good that can be said for it.
