ART S8 Eight Channel Mic Splitter Split 8 balanced low impedance microphone signals into sixteen Each channel has one direct output and one transformer-isolated output Direct outputs pass phantom power Ground-lift switch on each isolated output Features a -29db attenuator pad switch on each input Product Description The ART S8 Microphone Splitter can be used to split eight balanced low impedance microphone signals into sixteen (eight pairs). Each channel of the S8 provides one direct output and one transformer-isolated output from a single microphone. Applications include sending the direct outputs to the main or Front-of-House mixer, and the second isolated outputs to a monitor or recording mixer. The direct outputs pass phantom power from the main mixer to the microphones for use with condenser microphones. The S8 includes a ground-lift switch on each isolated output to reduce hum due to ground loops between connected AC-powered units. For versatility the S8 also features an attenuator pad switch on each input that can be used to connect preamplified signals to the two microphone-level outputs on each channel. Typical preamplified signals would originate from instrument preamplifiers, mixers, keyboards, etc. ART Audio Utilities Series Audio Utilities by Applied Research and Technology are audio devices that have been designed and engineered to exceed high standards for audio performance and functionality. We built an IEM rig for our band and needed a couple xlr splitters. I saw some spotty reviews of cheaper models so decided to go with these. They work great and sound nice and clean.

I purchased 2 of these to run our IEM. Great price and works well except for passing phantom power. It says on the unit itself to use direct output for phantom power but I am not getting it. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but when I bypass the splitter I get the phantom power so I know it's not my cabling.. I've contacted Art support but have not heard back. It's not a deal breaker but a bit annoying that it says it can do it.

Art S8 Splitter - a bargain

I record mostly live classical music. There is no second take or second chance and I want to take no chances. I use The Art S8 to split my mic feeds between two independent recording rigs - one is a laptop DAW, the other is a stand-alone recorder. The S8 is perfect for the task - no noise or hum, no loss of fidelity and completely passive (nothing added or subtracted. There are other more expensive mic splitters available, but this one does the job without any downside. Highly recommended.

Great way to split a 24 channel board
9 June 2015

We were looking for a splitter to use on stage so we could run our own monitors and give the house a clean feed. 24 channel splitters cost a lot more than we were willing to pay at the time. A sound guy we worked with suggested getting 3 of these instead of a single 24 for a fraction of the cost. We did and the rest is history. We have tested these extensively while practicing and have used both the directs and the transformer feeds for our sound. We play loud country & rock and we couldn't tell the difference between the outputs. We've only played out with the new set up a couple of times, but so far it is everything we hoped for at a great price. We couldn't be happier.

High Quality Product !
6 December 2010

This unit has all the features it needs for being a mic splitter and completely lived up to my expectations. My first impression upon lifting it out of the box was that it felt rock solid and road worthy. After removing the plastic wraping I was even more convinced I had purchaced a Quality mic splitter. The unit is nicely finished and all the swicthes and XLR recepticles are heavy duty. As far as being reliable, time will tell as I have only owned two of these units for about 2 1/2 months, but so far they have performed as I expected. Also, I put this gem through a little test to see if I could tell the difference between the direct out and the isolation tranformer out, by recording both outs on separate tracks on my roland vs 2480 and then auditioning each track ... MoreThis unit has all the features it needs for being a mic splitter and completely lived up to my expectations. There was no discernable difference, to my ears it appeared identicle. I have recorded a few live performances with it and I am completely happy with the sound quality. Nice product !! Well worth the money !

Perfect for intercepting mic inputs at live mixer so you can feed a second recording mixer
29 February 2016

We found the house mix was just not suitable for recording. House acoustics, etc. dictate a different mix than is suitable for recording. We intercepted all the channels before the mixer and split the signal to also feed a separate mixer used for recording. The phantom power was supplied by the house mixer as usual. The recording mixer has zero effect on the feed to the house mixer and phantom power was isolated. Quality built, nice appearance useful for many applications.

The right solution for the right price
27 May 2011

I have been setting up a new monitoring system for a church worship band and needed a way to split the microphone signals. The ART S8 is the perfect solution. B&H has it at a great price, ...I like the fact that I can keep the phantom power out of my monitor inputs, a PreSonus Firestudio. I haven't had to use the ground lift feature for this setup, but the building is very old and if I need it I'll sure be glad it's there. The only complaint I have is that it is too small. When mounted in my rack between some other equipment, it is so shallow that access to the rear plugs is tricky. Luckily I don't have to do that often, but if you do, then plan to leave some rack space open above and/or below it.I checked around for used pieces for a while, but they seem to hold ... MoreI have been setting up a new monitoring system for a church worship band and needed a way to split the microphone signals. Buying new was not that much more, and if I ever switch it out for something else I know I'll get my money back out of it.

Very handy for splitting signal FOH and Foldback.
16 December 2015

Our band uses wireless ems and we will be playing a venue which has an in-house PA. We usually control our mixes on our digital mixer with iPads through a router she we use our own PA. To be able to do this at this venue, I can now split inputs to FOH and my mixer and keep the function available for mixing ourselves. Much nicer and not at the mercy of the unknown sound man. The Art S8 does not seem to degrade the signal at all and the unit is very well put together. I have (and still do) own(ed) a number of ART pieces and they are excellent value for money.

a live event lifesaver
21 November 2011

Although I regularly do it, I don't look forward to event videography, especially with live bands in/and unfamiliar venues. There is always the problem of getting a multi-track feed with not-always-friendly FOH guys at the helm (I understand their concerns). I traditionally take the insert outs of mixing consoles if they are there (and I'm permitted) on one extreme, or popping a Zoom H2 in the middle of the stage on the other if that's what I'm reduced to. Thinking for the longest time that there must be an alternative to these has led me to the ART S8. Presenting it to the FOH guys well beforehand makes it easier to interact with them and convince them that nothing in what I'm doing will in any way disturb the proceedings. Thinking for the longest time that there must be an alternative to these has led me to the ART S8. Presenting it to the FOH guys well beforehand makes it easier to interact with them and convince them that nothing in what I'm doing will in any way disturb the proceedings. In this, the ART S8 has well succeeded in making everyone happy: the FOH guys with the program, and me with my multi-track recording of the event, all without missing a beat. To tap into an event using all 8 channels, you will need 16 XLR cables: the original mics go into the S8, then the direct cable goes to wherever it must in the original scheme (main FOH mixer or stage snake inputs, etc), and the transformer out cable goes to the recorder (Zoom R16 in my case). Well worth it: no hiss, no hum, no attenuation, no boost, no power required; the mic out transparently goes to my recorder and to the FOH. Very good value as well; highly recommended (the -29dB attenuator enables line levels to be applied; I'm just puzzled why -29, not -20dB or outright -30dB).

very happy w/ product
17 April 2015

This is just what we were needing to do remotes. we break off facility mixers and bring into our own mixer. It creates a lot of cabling but this is fine with different color cables. Just ordered the ARTs8 3 way to put in line in our studio. We will be using that to split our feeds and go to two separate programing computers. unit is 1ru and well made. Sound was clean and provides a great deal of versatility
