I am a 70 year old runner who has been running since 1976 and these are among the best shorts I have ever had. The shorts that would compare are all at least $30 more in price. They are light, a nice length and most important they have an excellent waist band . The pocket will comfortably hold a phone or multiple gels and car key. An added bonus a very nice colour.

Nice fabric, interesting waistband type, decent price, poor finished product. Could have been so much better if they added fuel pocket, zippered rear pocket for. Features. For look and fit ; how about some shape, not. A short potato sack? Seriously! I have. Big legs and these are like sails there is so much extra fabric from the butt down. Taper the leg !

The side zipper pocket is the perfect size for cards/cash/a key, so that’s a plus. There’s even a small front pocket sewn inside the shorts if you need to keep something else safe! Overall great athletic shorts, especially for the price. The leg openings are not slim fit, so if you’re looking for something tight these won’t be for you, but they have excellent room for running! The Asics "Road 2-N-1 5IN Shorts are my favourite shorts for every possible sport. I mostly use them for running, bodybuilding and soccer practise, but they are useable in every sport i've encountered so far. Even swimming.They are short, but the inner-part, makes them feel longer and less showy. They are really comfortable and doesn't in any way hinder your movement.I know own five pairs, so i dont have to wash them so often. I can only recommend!
Love Asics' shorts. However, I was looking for shorts with side pockets. This short is made for running. There is an inside rear pocket for your phone, which is very tight for the larger iPhones. There is no place for keys or anything else. I previously was able to buy Asics 2-N-1 shorts with these details. Please send me a to Asics shorts that meet my needs.
These are my new favorite running shorts. The 5” aren’t to short but don’t feel long like ball shorts. The built in spandex has a looser feel then regular spandex shorts but does a great job protecting against chafing. I just bought 2 more pairs because I love them so much.
Typical great quality Asics attire. Usually, no pockets is a DEAL BREAKER for me. I didn't realize there were no pockets until after I rcv'd. them. Not a big returner of items, so I'll just suck it up. The pocket for small items can not fit a phone, & who goes anywhere without their phones these days? Just a heads up.
I have long been faithful to Asics 2N1 shorts. Bought 3 pairs of these - was aware of the lack of front pocket and willing to try it. Problems I have had - the liner is a little too abrasive, the drawstrings are cursed - one tangled and twisted one pair into a complete mess. Replaced the drawstring on that one; Another pair, the drawstring withdrew into the wasteband and is difficult to get back out. The are some high maintenance shorts and not easy to live with. Never had one iota of a problem with past pairs. Buyer beware.
Excellent zipper pocket on side vs the more common center back. Securely holds large key for modern car without getting in the way on weight bench or exercise mat. Side pockets are handy for gym use but sometimes catch hands when running. Material dries quickly enough, if a little heavy. Split shorts option would be preferred if available.
So I purchased two pair of these 5 inch shorts on a whim because they were discounted and thought i'd get something light and short for summer runs. As an very new to running athlete, these shorts are extremely comfortable with plenty of stretch and don't chafe at all. They're also super lightweight with a small hidden pouch in the inside and the back perfect for keys or one or two gels, the fit is quite nice and they survive the wash/dryer pretty well so far. And finally there is a little reflective patch on the back of each short for those running at night and ocnscious that the shorts are black.Overall super happy with the purchase and I now prefer the shorter shorts over the 7" and linger pairs
