I swapped out a faulty Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme board for this board and haven't regretted it a second. The ASUS bios is much easier to use, overclocking is a breeze, and the included software is way ahead of the competition. I had no problem removing the screws or installing the m.2 drives. Paired with a 2080ti, 2 samsung m.2 drives and a 9900k. The Gigabyte board I had was causing my system to freeze, the m.2 screw would not come out and the bios was terrible to use. I have not had any problems with this board at all. After having both boards installed and tested on the same system, the ASUS Maximus XI Extreme is the one I would go with every time.

The build was easy and straightforward. No quality issues of any kind. Runs rock solid with latest BIOS, i9-9900k overclocked to 4.8 GHz. Did not feel like I need more. Noctua NH-15S with one fan fits perfectly. Idling around 28-31 C. Full load gets to 68-70 C which is expected. Could use the second one but ram sticks with heat spreaders are tall. Not 100% sure if it fits. 64 GB of Kingston Predator DDR4 3333booted straight up. Asus RGB addressable strip worked like a charm. Just plug and play. Tons of ports and headers. The only little con is lack of detailed information about DIMM.2. I had to look up a lot of information until I found video on YouTube which in comments explains limitations. In order to create RAID with DIMM.2 you have to use Intel M2 Nvme sticks and array will not be bootable. Any other brand will show up just like a hard drive. I put two Samsung 970 Pros and they showed up just fine but no RAID. I was able to create bootable RAID on chipset though. Overall excellent board. This replaced original Asus Maximus Formula SE from 2007 that I was using until now for over 10 years and it still runs like a champ.

I would give this 5/5 eggs, but 4 out 5 is more fitting. I would give 4.5 but that isn't an option. While I managed to work my way through the problems myself without support requests or lack of documentation on design aspects given hardware I found it could of been circumvented with more information available. However! Given as this is a new product I will forgo my complaints and give it 5 out of 5. Don't let that discourage this purchase! This board is simply amazing in every other aspect. Features, design, and functionality speaking I've never owned a board as objectively good as this one. I upgraded from a Hero 7 and I don't regret it! Worth the price for the part, the other stuff is up to you.
I've had this board for over a year now and it has held up to all of its claims. It's a great board!
If you dont need SLI and want all the NVME dives, but dont want a LGA 2066 set up, this is a great board. However, until someone tells me a way around my issue, I'm leaving this at 1 egg because all the research I did before buying this board did not tell me this would be an issue.
1) I would recommend this product to anyone looking for build an amazing over kill system but if you just want a system that will not be pushed to the limits. I would save my money and go with a lower model of this series. You can't go wrong with ASUS motherboards of this series. 2) I would totally buy this again and I have owned the Formula edition which I enjoy a lot but this one here just look like an Air Cooling King of a board over the water cooling version which is the Formula. 3) I would change the way RGB options are so that I can easily control it from one master center software instead of running every brand RGB software to sync the system into my games or themes setup.
Ordered the MAXIMUS XI EXTREME motherboard and two sticks of SAMSUNG 970 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCIe on April 16th. I received a notification from PUROLATOR on April 17 advising the the above equipment had been delivered according to offered and selected shipping option (local Canada Post Station). I was initially overjoyed to find that they were delivered overnight. However, the story goes downhill from there! I went to the location on two occasions to try and obtain these items. I soon found myself speaking to a clerk who needed encouragement to look around the stock room where it was allegedly dropped off according to Purolator confirmation of delivery. I contacted Purolator immediately after the discussion with the clerk and reported the purchased items missing. On Thursday I got an email from Allison a "Tracing Specialist" at Purolator stating: "I have received your case file regarding your shipment from New Egg. Unfortunately it will take Shopper’s a couple of days before they locate your package because unless it is a Canada Post package, it will not go to their post office. It will go to the store’s stock before they realize that it is isn’t their order. Please update Donna once they have located your package." I replied asking Allison who would be responsible for these products if they where damaged. Further I asked how long they expected me to wait for this process to work itself out and advised further that these items would be reported stolen if not located an me contacted by Monday, April 22nd at noon. Further, I contacted New Egg and forwarded emails outlining communication by myself and Purolator in support of a claim I initiated. I advised New Egg that I had no confidence in the functioning of sensitive computer components that have been sitting around a stock room as I had no idea how they were being treated and how they would function. I advised that I would be looking to exchange these items at their expense and without restocking fee as I no longer felt confident about their long term reliability. The total cost of this order: $1,389.87. I will update as events unfold
Would buy again. For the customers thinking to buy, Asus motherboards have always been great robust products. Only once I had a bad router, and they replaced for brand new within 2-3 days of contacting them. Great support, and great after purchase community unlike other cheaper solutions. You buy and you're on your own fishing for little support needed to understand it's usage. I hope you find a good deal because this is the most expensive motherboard I've ever had to not support common every day ram!
