I needed something that could handle Lightroom and Photoshop for several years to come, and I think it's more than up to that challenge. I wanted something I could play FFXIV on, and it delivers on that admirably. Gameplay is smooth even in extremely crowded areas, and overall it's wonderfully responsive. Quiet, too, even with heavy demand on the hardware! The only real issue I've noticed so far is that my display will periodically flash black while I'm doing things using the integrated GPU. It's very quick, it doesn't actually interrupt what I'm doing, it's just pretty obvious especially when the majority of the screen is white. It may be just a driver issue, but so far none of the troubleshooting steps I've gone through have resolved it.

I couldn’t believe the price on this laptop. I got it for about $300 under msrp and the staff at the Overland Park Micro Center were attentive, helpful, and made the entire process fast and painless. Great suggestions for add-ons without any pressure, and they made it feel like they appreciated my business. This laptop can run any game in existence. I’m running AAA games in full ultra graphics settings and the display is crystal clear. I recently purchased two of these laptops (One for myself and one for my son after we lost our old desktops to an apartment fire). What it has in it:There are many great things to say about this laptop.1. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is a very good processor and does all the things that you would expect from a processor in this class.2. Connectivity - The Ethernet adapter (10/100/1000) and the Wireless Wi-Fi 6 wireless adapter provide excellent connectivity options.3. The 32 GB of RAM is plenty for most applications.4. The 1TB Solid State Drive is sufficient for most users. If the 1TB drive isn’t enough, then a second drive can be added to the empty PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 slot available.5. Since we haven’t had the laptops that long, we haven’t done much to test other games, for FPS.6. Oculus Quest. My son has an Oculus Quest and uses Oculus Link to play more demanding games. One of his main needs for his new PC/Laptop was to be compatible. He has informed me that the Oculus works much better than his old desktop with an RTX 2060.7. The 17.3” Full HD Anti-glare IPS LCD 300 Hz refresh rate monitor included. This is a very nice perk with this laptop. The screen is very right and has no stutter or lag, at least as far as my eyes can tell. My son really likes to play games like OSU and the high refresh rate is a must for games of this type.8. I haven’t personally had any problems with fan noise, but I haven’t played any games on it that are too demanding. My wife however has an MSI laptop and her fan is louder than the G17, while playing the same game.Drawbacks:1. No Webcam2. No USB ports on the right side of the chassis.3. There is a sound effect enabled on POST that can be jarring if you are not expecting it. It can be disabled in the BIOS though. All in all, I am happy with the purchase. It fulfilled all the needs that I needed it to and is portable too, unlike the desktop that it replaced.

I bought 2 of these laptops a couple days ago and they are FAST. Getting 120 FPS in Hogwarts at High quality. I'm a video game developer, and it compiles very very quickly. The internal SSD is very quick (3000-4000 MB/sec R/W, 300k IOPS) and the CPU is VERY fast. The screen quality is significantly better than the Asus TUF gaming it replaced, and the fans are quiet/silent outside of gaming. Sound quality is amazing compared to my previous ROG Strix. Downside: There is a slight pause when the laptop switches between graphics cards, which happens when you start or stop a video game.Battery life is poor. The system has a very large battery but uses around 80w plugged in at idle, which is far more than it needs to. This results in a 3-4 hour battery life. The system has a very large battery but uses around 80w plugged in at idle, which is far more than it needs to. This results in a 3-4 hour battery life. It also has a setting to stop at 80% charging, which works while the laptop is on, but the moment you shut the laptop down, it'll charge up to 100%.That said, there have been some issues...* One of the laptops BSOD during the initial windows setup* Resuming from sleep caused a BSOD* Hard locks and reboots which stopped the mouse cursorThese stability issues were caused by buggy AMD and Nvidia graphics drivers. The ASUS provided Nvidia drivers had stability issues, and the latest available AMD graphics drivers (23.4.3) had stability issues. So I had stability issues when I got my laptop, which only got worse when I tried upgrading drivers to fix them. Here are the steps to have a stable system:1) Removing all AMD & Nvidia drivers with DisplayDriverUninstaller (DDU)2) Installing the latest AMD Adrenaline 23.4.3 chipset driver (skip the graphics driver in that bundle, it causes a lockup on login, but then select all the chipset drivers)3) Installing the latest Nvidia Graphics drivers (531.79)4) Installing the AMD graphics driver direct from ASUS (AMD_Graphic_DriverOnly_ROG_AMD_J_V31.0.14001.46001_33214)Product rated 4/5 stars due to the stability issues and battery life. Someone who didn't know how to debug driver stability issues would likely be very unhappy with this laptop.
I bought this to run Linux and this is a point in time review for April 2023. This is not a review of this laptop on Windows. As of this time, sound does not work and will not work on Linux until an update of the BIOS is done by ASUS to update the DSDT properties. Bluetooth also does not work, but I wrote a small patch for the kernel that fixes it and submitted it upstream for future inclusion. Other than that, it's super powerful, the screen is amazing, the keyboard is smooth as can be. It's a beast. I develop daily on it and it flies through compilation. Once the sound is fixed through a BIOS update, this will be a perfect Linux developer machine.
As of right now we are not getting it to run VR, specifically the Valve Index and the Vive Pro/Vive Pro Eye but it won't run any VR that requires a DP connection. It does not have a traditional mini displayport it has the Thunderbolt 4. Which is great except that there just aren't enough adapters out there (Male Thunderbolt 4 to female full size displayport) that will work. So far tested two, waiting for the rest to arrive. It's so frustrating to me that all these gaming laptops easily meet the specifications for VR--easily! Yet it always comes down to it being a connection issue. FRUSTRATING! Stay away from the laptops without the MiniDP if you are wanting to use any VR system that requires DP, your Mini DP to DP adapter is of no use here and Thunderbolt 4 adapters ... MoreAs of right now we are not getting it to run VR, specifically the Valve Index and the Vive Pro/Vive Pro Eye but it won't run any VR that requires a DP connection. A finely built laptop with an excellent monitor.A little on the heavy side so be ready for a workout when carrying this around. It's also huge and only fits in my work rolling bag. Regular computer backpacks won't do.Asus tools are interesting and easy to access, tho I still rely o MSI Afterburner for overclocking and fan curve setup.I was a bit concerned with the temps while running The Ascent and Flight Simulator when GPU was over reaching low 80's C (factory settings for GPU at that point). I checked with the chat support and was told it was normal operating range without thermal throttling.Trackpad is precise and smooth, feels good to use when you needed. Keyboard is also above average typing experience. So far I've been using it for gaming and work ... MoreA finely built laptop with an excellent monitor.A little on the heavy side so be ready for a workout when carrying this around. While the specs are great and price is decent there are definitely issues that need to be addressed. Let me first start off by saying perfection does not exist, I don't expect perfection... but I do expect good functionality.Pros:When it works as intended, it works great! It's very quite compared to other gaming laptops, and runs smooth.Cons:So far I have experienced:Slight screen bleeding towards the bottom of the screen (An acceptable level. As I stated, I do not expect perfection)Random freezing that lasts anywhere from 1-10 seconds, sometimes it happens when windows first boots, sometimes it's an hour into gaming. Sometimes it happens just trying to open windows explorer. One thing that drives me absolutely crazy is motion blurring/smoothing in ... MoreWhile the specs are great and price is decent there are definitely issues that need to be addressed. Sometimes it happens just trying to open windows explorer. One thing that drives me absolutely crazy is motion blurring/smoothing in games and TV. I have tried and failed to remedy this with multiple settings & effort. No matter what game I play, even when it is disabled in the game I still have motion blurring. Also happens in windows, and internet browsers. The refresh rate is set 144mhz as advertised.. So I don't know if I have a defective screen, or some kind of setting or software that I cannot access. This to me in unacceptable and makes me want to return it.
This laptop has everything you need and want in all the right spots. Fast processor, fast gpu, plenty of ram and storage and room for more storage. The screen is a 2560x1440 panel with adaptive sync. No tearing in games and the panel is super bright and vivid. I was initially a little worried that the laptop version of the 3070 might have some trouble with this resolution, but it doesn't. And given that any game that could really push it will either feature DLSS or FSR, one should be able to squeeze extra performance at no cost.I'd read in reviews that the normal use battery life is really good on this unit, and it is. There is an option to disable the 3070 and use the igpu when on battery. Its super fast, the screen is really sharp, the non gaming battery life is excellent, and I would absolutely buy it, or the version with the 6800m, again.
I'm really enjoying my new laptop. It's a solid desktop replacement system. I like the ability to switch between integrated graphics and the GeForce card built in depending on the application. I will say it puts out a lot of heat though, so I keep it on a stand to give the fan more room to breathe. I noticed putting it directly on a table that some games like Honkai Star Rail got very laggy to the point of being unplayable. Weirdly, Genshin Impact (an older game from the same developer) didn't have this problem. There was a smaller model on the floor when I visited the Fairfax store with similar specs (except for the Intel CPU) that I was told manages heat better. However, I could not get over the superior keyboard layout. I'm drawn to keyboards with number pads ... MoreI'm really enjoying my new laptop. It's a solid desktop replacement system.
