I have a 3 acre property and over the years I put together a WiFi backbone based on the Apple Airport Extreme product set (which Apple discontinued). As I added more and more internet-based services I noticed that my WiFi performance was becoming poorer and less stable even though my internet access speed was good at 300 Mbps. After reading a lot of reviews about powerhouse routers I settled on the Asus AX11000. It has some game features that I was not interested in but reviewers mentioned that when distances got out to 200 feet the Asus AX11000 outperformed the other top end routers. Upon installation I was pleased with the setup app and decided to also go for a pair of Asus AX6100's. After set up I connected one of the AX6100's via a cat 5 wire to the AX11000. I connected to the other unit via wireless over a distance of more than 200 feet. Several things stand out for me: the ease of setup, the coverage and throughput of the WiFi signal and the fact that I can move seamlessly around the home and property without changing SSID or password.

An outstanding router that is simple and powerful.

I purchased this until to replace a high end D-Link that was failing. I plugged the new Asus unit in and downloaded the phone app to manage it. To my amazement, the install process was flawless and simple. I even did a firmware update from the phone with zero effort. The management on this router is amazing. It has all the features I could want including a scheduled reboot, something I desperately needed on my last router. I'm not sure I'll need it, but I am very happy that feature is there. The wireless performance has been stellar. It is fast and stable in all areas of my apartment (even with concrete walls). I also love that there is only a single network that handles all frequencies instead of the separate 2gh and 5gh of my last unit. I just wanted to take a minute to write this review since I just had my brother in law purchase one for his house. Reading these reviews, it is clear that the people who gave it 1 star really do not know what they are doing. I have been using this (these - I have 2 meshing) for approximately 8 months now and it has completely taken care of the dead spots on the entire property inside and out. I have a 4 level back split with the main router at the back of the house on the 3rd floor with the second at the front of the house on the second floor (or main level you enter). Setup is very easy, the speeds are as if you had it plugged in all the time, and the range is insane. Our mail box is across the street and about 7 houses down and I still have 2 bars on my iPhone ... MoreI just wanted to take a minute to write this review since I just had my brother in law purchase one for his house. Our mail box is across the street and about 7 houses down and I still have 2 bars on my iPhone when I’m getting mail. Realistically, I probably could have gotten away with just the one in the back 3rd level.... that’s how good the range is. I have a wired backbone and use this as a tri-band smart connect so only one SSID shows up. Thanks to a recent firmware update (thank you ASUS), the setup using a wired backend is that much easier now (I’m old school - I wire if at all possible). If speed and range is your issue, give these a shot. You have nothing to lose. If you don’t like it (which I don’t think will be the case), you have 14 days no questions asked to return for exchange or refund. Hope this helps!

Fantastic Piece Of Kit

It’s not often that you purchase something that does exactly what it’s supposed to while making it easy to do so but this fantastic piece of tech solved all my Virgin Hub 3 problems with signal strength and stability. I live in a 2 floor house with solid brick walls and with the awful Hub 3 I had low signal areas upstairs and signal stability was awful.I was expecting to have to pay out for an expensive Mesh system but thought I’d try one RT-AX92U first as I could always purchase another and mesh it to the first if it wasn’t enough. As it turned out I don’t need to. To be honest, the signal strength isn’t a massive improvement over the Hub 3. It is better but what is amazing is the stability. With the Hub 3, if the signal was weak anywhere my 200mb line would drop to single figure speeds but the stability would make it often unusable. My sons gaming was becoming a constant pain in my ear. With the ASUS this is no longer a problem. Even in areas that have a slightly lower signal, the stability is amazing and now receive a steady 200-220mb everywhere. The RT-AX92U allows me to prioritise my sons gaming and even lets me NAT a path to whatever gaming server he’s using. Perfect line speeds. Even his friends are jealous now.As for setup, it’s a dream. I bought a Cat7 cable to link the ASUS and Hub 3 (it does come with a Cat5).You link the WAN port on the ASUS to port 1 on the Hub 3, log into the Hub 3 using a browser on the same network. Change the Hub 3 to Modem mode and restart it.Once it’s restarted, turn on the ASUS, download the ASUS router app and literally do what it says. I had to update the firmware, which the app does for you but that was it. I’ve done a lot of Router installs but this was by far the easiest I’ve ever done.As you can guess, I’m a fan. It’s solved all my issues and at a reasonable price to boot. A fantastic piece of kit.

I highly recommend this router for most users. While some less technical users may have some trouble during the set up once you get these bad boys functioning properly, you'll be thankful you listened to my advice. I have seen posts folks having disconnection issues for which I have had none. Though I might encourage those users disconnects as an an issue to run a wired back haul which always improves stability while freeing up your second 5G wireless spectrum for your mobile devices instead of maintaining your mesh network . Anyways I can walk from one end of my property where I connect to one router, then enter the house and walk to the back bedrooms where I am connected to the mesh node without dropping a single frame while streaming videos or playing games on my Switch/cellphone. Also my download speeds increased from the 800Mbps+ range to 920Mbps+ while wired over my 1G connection. Wireless AX link speeds seem to max out at close to 1026Mbps which is disappointing. Keep in mind with wireless devices your DL/UL speeds can be hindered by your devices storage. For example my phone never exceeds 400Mbps on downloads despite having 866Mbps or faster connection due to how slow the onboard storage is while my tablet hits north of 650Mbps at the same connection speeds using Speedtest.net (site or app I used both). My wife's laptop on the other hand has no problem saturating it's wireless connection. Your mileage my vary. So your wireless devices have been warned ;)

I've only had this router for a day, so longevity is something that must still be observed before I come to a final conclusion, but thus far, I'm blown away by this router. I only got one of these, as my place is relatively small, and even so, I'm getting better reception in the farthest reaches of my condo that I did with my previous router (Linksys WRT-32X). I have a 2020 iPad Pro and was able to test out Wifi 6 speeds and they are as advertised. It essentially doubled the speeds I was getting from my previous setup. The ease of use and features are what really blew me away. It comes with 2 usb port (USB 3.0 and 2.0) and was able to identify the devices connected to it without any hassles, which included an older Canon MG 3220 printer that I was able to share ... MoreI've only had this router for a day, so longevity is something that must still be observed before I come to a final conclusion, but thus far, I'm blown away by this router. It comes with 2 usb port (USB 3.0 and 2.0) and was able to identify the devices connected to it without any hassles, which included an older Canon MG 3220 printer that I was able to share easily across my devices (in Linux Mint, which can sometimes be finicky when it comes to detecting network printers, it detected the printer connected to the Asus router immediately). Mac Address filtering was a breeze also. All online devices were identified immediately and I was able to add them to my Mac Address allowed list from a simple drop-down. The offline devices I was able to add manually, again without hassles, and was able to label them appropriately right on the interface. For those devices that were already online, it was neat seeing the appropriate logo for each already identified by the router. It includes, among many other things, built-in network protection from Trend-Micro, which doesn't seem to slow anything down so I'll keep using it for now. The traffic analyzer is fantastic, the included gaming features are amazing (enabling the gaming mode and running some tests I did see a dramatic decrease in my ping times, down 50%)... I could write a book on all the great features of this router. Again, as I wrote at the start of the review, the only question now is longevity and stability, but if those two hold up, then I may have just found the best router ever made!

Slow....and time lost
24 April 2023

I bought this AX6100 (two RT-AX-92U) system in April 2021 from another store. Now, in April 2023 it is worthless. While time consuming to set up, I thought it worked well and was impressed enough to add another pair to the mesh in June 2022 from B&H. In that time frame I had the impression my AT&T internet service was flakey, dropping out now and again for short intervals. When the internet appeared dead, the AT&T tech who was sent to fix it said the RT-AX-92U was the cause. He said it made the AT&T gateway stop. He pulled the WAN cable to the RT-AX-92U and the gateway woke up. I was skeptical and did many tests in the month after the AT&T tech was here. I found he was right. The AT&T gateway on its own was reliable. With the RT-AX-92U connected it was not. This ... MoreI bought this AX6100 (two RT-AX-92U) system in April 2021 from another store. The AT&T gateway on its own was reliable. With the RT-AX-92U connected it was not. This pattern repeated. I have replaced the wireless mesh with CAT-5 wiring to every computer, the printer, and NAS, plus AT&T wireless to the laptops. Everything works far better than with the RT-AX92U disconnected. Every unit on the network responds faster. I was unaware how poor the Asus system was until I swapped to CAT-5. I am dissatisfied with the Asus system.

Wanted to love these, but never got them performing
2 May 2020

I've got about 20 hours invested into fighting with these. I really thought I'd get them to work and all would be OK. But I've got 1400 sqft with these two units stashed about the midpoint on each side of the house, but in mesh mode I had a corner bathroom that was lucky to even connect. Most of the house was pulling through 20-40 Mbps at best; if in the same room, 100 Mbps was nominal, but typically more like 60 Mbps is what we were seeing. The iPhone 11 was the only device that would routinely beat 200 Mbps sitting in the same room, but I never figured out why it was the exception (it was connecting to the same 5 Ghz-1 (802.11ac, not AX capable) radio as everything else). I finally shut off AIMesh (as well as the second remote 92u device) and did a stock reset to the base unit. I have two AX-capable wifi computers in the house (one laptop, one iPhone 11) and tried connecting them to the 5 Ghz-2 (the only AX band and is typically reserved for the backhaul when in AIMesh mode) but couldn't get over 500 Mbps standing right next to it with 160 Mhz active. A direct connection via Cat6 cable was always 1 Gbps, so I finally gave up and decided it was something with the radio. The goal with this was to get a wifi mesh for our AC devices to routinely be in the 300-500 Mbps range throughout the house to use as much of my AT&T gigabit internet as possible with 2x2 MIMO on most of our devices, but that wasn't even close to reality. Not even able to cover the entire house was a major issue. Their support phone number doesn't seem to be staffed during the COVID situation, and the support email address they put in the box comes back as undeliverable. When I tried to register my device on the ASUS website, I got an error saying it was an incorrect serial number, even after it used that serial number to query a database and pull up the AX92U unit information. Never did figure out how to get in contact with their support team for help. Not sure what the issue is as these should have been more than enough, but I returned them. That said, if you've got Internet speeds of 250 Mbps or less, these should work out OK assuming they can cover the area.

Wifi 6 mesh system suitable for two storey house, 3-5 bedrooms

Surprisingly small boxes - with the antennae up each one is 15cm wide, 15cm deep and 15cm high. Very easy to set up, providing you follow the instructions! And the ASUS router app is a genuinely useful way to manage your devices once installed. Port forwarding for my NAS box was straightforward, and the software makes the various optimisations (eg for gaming) easy. The routers are tri-band (1 is 2.4GHz and 2 are 5GHz) - I was able to connect them with a wired interface, but if you can't manage this then one of the 5 GHz channels is used for backhaul (ie for communication between the two routers). You then have the option either to combine the bands into a single SSD or to keep the bands separate - you would definitely choose the former if most/all the devices that ... MoreSurprisingly small boxes - with the antennae up each one is 15cm wide, 15cm deep and 15cm high. You then have the option either to combine the bands into a single SSD or to keep the bands separate - you would definitely choose the former if most/all the devices that connect are wifi 6 capable, but I picked the latter because in my home most aren't. Wireless performance is very good, and seems to manage to keep good speed even at low signal strength, but I have a big old house and two routers weren't quite enough to cover everywhere, so I picked up a third, also from Scan. I now enjoy good speeds everywhere, and wandering round the house with a wifi 6 capable tablet just means that the data is sent to the tablet from whichever router has the best signal at that moment - it all seems to be genuinely seamless, which must be the result of some very clever software. So, overall, this is a great system if you want to get good signal throughout a decent sized house - if you've got something smaller, however, you could probably get away with just a single router (sold separately as the RT-AX92u)
