Asus RT-BE88U Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) AiMesh Extendable Router

This router was to replace my current ASUS WiFi 6, in order to get WiFi 7.Delivery and service from B&H was 5 stars: really excellent!When I installed the router it ran fine for a week with fast speed, with few glitches for smart switches and bulbs disconnecting, that I had to reconfigure. I considered that as minor.Then came a major problem in September 2024.The Bother Color Laser network printer was printing normally when powering it on. OK.But after only 2 minutes it was not seen by my computer or phone! They confirmed that the problem could not be cause by a regional (Canada-US) difference. After trying many things the ASUS tech he hung up on me! This is the worst service I ever received. NO MORE ASUS PRODUCT FOR ME!I had to go back to my old ASUS, and the Internet was connected fine, and … good surprise! The Brother network printer was working fine again and was not disconnecting any more!First thing I did during installation of the RT-BE88U was to check firmware to make sure that it was up to date.Conclusion: As of today, this product RT-BE88U is NOT recommended.- Stopping Internet connection was a critical problem.-The ASUS support was NOT supporting the product adequately.-I had outstanding support from B&H, they really care about their customers!

I've been super happy with my trusty old RT-AC3100. This BE-88U was supposed to bring me to WiFi7 and replace old router.What a abysmal device this is. System log is running wild with constantly crashing dnsmasq, and yea you guessed it DNS works iffy, if not at all. Samsung galaxy S24 Ultra is not compatible with the station if wifi7 options like WMM turned on, it ca not even connect! Download speed over s24 is around 8Mbps (wired clients run 226Mbs). Wifi 7! That's worse than 24 years old wifi! Router is crashing every now and then, smart connect makes devices stuck in limbo looping between 2g/5g. Ipsec VPN implementation is totally booked, they forgot to add static route! Client can connect to router but not to Lan, nor internet :) omg! Enable qos etc.utilities and router will slow down considerably! Asus technical support doesn't answer emails, feedback. The 7 years old ac3100 is better than this one, avoid like plague. This device has been in market for quite some time, so one would think (I did!) Asus fixed early bugs already,but clearly not.Anything good? Ai mesh (as ac3100 as node) was easy (wired and wireless). Router has ample amount of rj45s! Usb 3, dual Wan, VLANs (didn't try). There's a fleeting chance Asus gets bugs fixed eventually, but alas for me, I think this will be last Asus device I bought, quality doesn't match expectations and since support doesn't even bother returning emails, I'm done..time to move on

I had an ASUS router already so this was so easy to set up. The router runs cooler than the ac88u it replaces and so much faster. Still testing wifi but seems a little better. Lots of ways to change configurations in the software. 4years trouble free usage on the 88U so expecting the same from this one.
